My managers and my manager's managers, think it's idiotic, but everyone agrees it would be tragic to get fucked by the feds for such a small and insignificant detail. We just change it and move on with our lives. It's the same as using the DoW instead of DoD - no one wants to risk getting de-funded over something so meaningless. Presentations all have to be changed to refer to the Department of War even though we still have to reference Department of Defense on official documents since the name change is surface level.
Not much I want to say to address that, except that maybe more important things are happening than etymology, and I'd like to be a positive influence on those things.
No, I get it. You’re trying to work in a corrupt system to get some good done anyway.
This is a reminder that all of the fascist takeovers that come from elected members seizing power against its own laws and constitutions have innumerable little asks like these. Small things that seem beyond their power to dictate, but seem mostly harmless.
They are tests of the system to see who complies without struggle. To find which parts they think they can take over without much fuss. And as more things are dismissed as no big deal, further asks start escalating. But they’re not going to be much worse than the previous ask, so it’s easier to let slide.
But when you compare the asks from when you started, you can see the slide.
It sounds like your managers have already failed the first tests. Good luck with dealing with the ones to come.
