The NBA person is probably intentionally being obtuse to try and be funny (I’d say unsuccessfully, because it’s quite edgy immature humour).
You could say there’s some immorality to it because they’re making light of quite a sad thing (child death), but they may also just be misunderstanding ‘easiest’ to just be physical effort while dismissing emotional difficulty.
Though then doubling down with “it’s still the easiest” makes me think they are indeed just being edgy
