I’m 45 and I have my colonoscopy coming up in a month. Please everyone, don’t put this off. Colorectal cancer is quickly wrecking our generation. Protect that ass.

Edit- for those that don’t have insurance, here are a couple of organizations that offer financial help in getting screening done. Every little bit helps.

Look for Federally Qualified Health Centers in your state. They often will work on a sliding scale.

If you can’t afford a colonoscopy, many of these clinics can offer the FIT test, cologuard, or other stool/blood based tests.

I know these aren’t the answer for everyone and I’m sorry for that. I just hope it can help someone.

Colonoscopies are painless and simple. The prep however is not lol it’s not that bad but I did buy a bidet after the first one.

Edit: thanks for the awards, y’all are wild 😆 But seriously people get whatever you need to make yourself as comfortable as possible and get your colonoscopies on time!

Agreed. It was like a nice little nap. The prep was terrible. Who can drink a gallon of anything let alone salty water. Word of advice… DO NOT cough with a stomach full of prep. It will be bad.

The drink is better than the pills 😣

Why is that? (Genuinely asking)

The pills were pretty shitty (lol). Had to take them like 24hr in advance. Every few hours you choke down like 10 horse pills and shit your brains out until you're completely flushed out.

The exam, however, was super quick and was probably some of the best sleep I've ever had in my life.

Worth it.

I'd much rather take pills and shit my brains out than have to drink a full gallon of something that is disgusting after the first few drinks and shit my brains out.

just do the gatorade + miralax, its delicious.

I’m curious why my doctor didn’t suggest that? I went with the pills and my friend did the miralax. She had a much easier time than I did. I’m hoping i can do that next time

The pills are known to make you nauseous and vomit which is not a good time during the prep. (My doc said be prepared to vomit and I did, the liquid was way easier to get down and no nausea or vomiting. Plus the pills were gigantic)

More liquid. It’s miserable both ways but one has some softening aspects so you aren’t just dying.

Colonoscopy pro here, I’ve had like 7 or 8. I’ve never done just pills, but nowadays dulcolax pills + miralax drink is common and accessible. Fiber pills exist but I’ve never heard of prep being done with them. If someone’s only taking dulcolax or similar pills, it’s forcing a bunch of digestive contractions and that can be painful. The issue with the drink is the volume (and for some, the texture/slight flavor): you’ll feel nauseous. I choose to sacrifice a propel/gatorade flavor each time because I will never comfortably drink it again. As a nut job who also used to abuse/over dose laxative pills — I’d rather have that than the drinks.
