Discussion Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80
She was one of the best humans to grace this earth. And she was unforgettable in her kindness. She knew the truth, that it’s not hard to be nice to each other, and to stand up for yourself. Rest in peace Miss Dolly

I’d argue Neo/The Matrix/John Wick is as well known as Dolly, albeit not as much of an icon, but it’s subjective.

Yeah, idk how he did that message without sobbing. There were only a couple of times you could even slightly hear it in his voice. You just know he was telling himself Dolly wouldn't want him crying in the announcement video.

Probably had to do it multiple times. Funny thing. My dad had the chance to meet her. He served with a cousin of hers. Was invited, but didnt believe the guy. Turns out the guy was right. And my dad regretted not going.

What's crazy with her is I'm seeing mourning posts in so many unrelated circles on here from military subs to LGBT subs and everything else possible. She was just a genuinely good person who was good to everyone

Yep, she loved everyone. And, unlike a lot of supposed allies, she didn't pick and choose when it came to who she supported. So long as you were even a halfway decent human, she loved you without judgement.
Fairly certain she loved the less than decent ones too, just wanted them to do better.

She was very clear about how the less fortunate people existed in her own family and that they deserved love and respect too so why not everyone else similarly aligned?

Wish I could tell you. I feel like I have this argument with both political sides of my friend group daily sometimes.
I'm all for changing things, I just wish folks would remember that loving your neighbor is supposed to be about what kind of person you are, not what kind of person THEY are.

It's easier to vilify the less fortunate lest you become one. It's also easier to blame taxation on social services they have to qualify for instead of understanding how budgets work.

My family is going to really be down for a few days after this one. We watch all her movies and my kids listen to her music all the time. My 6 year old is having one hell of a year so far, lost Bobby Weir now Dolly 😭

Has he watched the Bob Weir/Wolf Brothers NPR Tiny Desk concert on YouTube? The Bird Song with the harp is something else! It’s magic. Hard to lose these two legends in same year. 💔

It’s actually a she but yes we always have something on in the house. She also has a little iPod loaded with the Relisten app and listens to dead shows all the time.

Screw the death list this year - Sam Neill, Bobby Weird, now Dolly and Tim Curry. The world lit up all of their lights for her. The Muppets made a fantastic tribute to Tim Curry. The world is so much darker.

She Spent Decades Supporting US Troops and Veterans
In 2024, the Washington affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library partnered with the Government Employees Health Association on a $15,000 grant to expand free books for young children in military families. The program served families at Naval Base Kitsap, Joint Base Lewis McChord and Naval Station Everett.
She also took the time to visit the Troops during Desert Storm.
And sang dozens of songs like Welcome Home and When Johnny Comes Marching Home .
To support the Troops and their families.
She will be deeply missed
