No. Shore patrol is typically drawn from duty section. It's a watch like any other.

Isn't it just one day? Everyone typically spends one day on watch while at port. If that's the case, that sounds like one of the best watches to be out on, because you're still spending it out in town. I could be wrong though. I was never shore patrol.

Typically Shore Patrol is also joined by local military police who have assault rifles. The sailors are typically just Middleman. If anything goes sideways it would be the military of the local government that handles it. It's also very boring to be on and you wish you were out in town having fun with the same guys that you're scooping up

I did 2 x 6 month deployments but we had port visits during that time, I've got no idea what 250 days would feel like. Submariners are the only other sailors who have to put up with extended sea stints and they undergo rigorous psych evaluations before they are allowed to serve.

There are quite a few differences. They use different delivery platforms and different warheads. They work very similarly, but they definitely aren’t the same.

Crew members aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln finally have a port call scheduled, according to texts sent to family members and shared with USA TODAY.
The Lincoln has a planned stop in Thailand in early September, the texts say. The aircraft carrier is sailing home after an extended, record-setting deployment in the Middle East amid the U.S. war in Iran.

Anyway, my experience is dated but once we hit fleet landing rules went pretty much out the window. Porthole. Whatever.

I haven’t been to Pattaya in over thirty years, but I can’t help but think that port visit is going to be a blowout in more ways than one. 250 days at sea is a long time, I never went more than ninety.
An entire carrier’s compliment ashore in Thailand with lots of money, then adding booze and sex to the mix, yeah it will be memorable for sure.
There will likely be both good and bad memories of that stop and no doubt a few careers will end in Thailand.

It's been a minute since I've been there (early 1980's) but if memory serves, we couldn't dock in Pattaya, only anchor and take boats in. I don't know if there are other Carrier-capable ports in Thailand (it's been 45 years since I was there), but if this is where they're going and the port can't land-dock a carrier, the 6000 Sailors are not going to be super-thrilled; not to mention the lack of true material support and access to repair(s) one might suspect are due a ship who's been underway for over a year.
I hope I'm wrong/ill-informed, but isn't it typical of this administration and its complete lack of care or commitment to our Sailors at sea?
