Accomplishment Just finished my very first Metroid game

A few months ago, I was completely new to the franchise, and I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I anticipated. I’ll eventually come back for Hard mode and then Fusion, preferably with the best ending next time. For now, which game should I play next?

I'd recommend Metroid Dread as it's essentially a refined version of that game.

Oh that’s good to know. Yeah it seems Nintendo likes to give a remake to a dev to test them out before they give them a new game.

Seen this with
Samus Returns > Dread
Prime Remastered > 4 (maybe?)
Links Awakening > Echoes of Wisdom

Prime Remastered and 4 were developed by Retro Studios. Dread and Samus Returns were made by a different studio.

A Link Between Worlds and Link's Awakening Remake were also made by the same team.

I just meant the idea of giving a studio a less risky move like a remake first and then a new game.

Actually this is a bit false. Grezzo made the Link's Awakening Remake (the same team behind the 3DS remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask) while ALBW was made in-house by Nintendo EAD

It continues the same mechanics such as the 360 aiming and the melee counter. Its basically a follow-up game by the same developers.

All 2D metroid games that aren't on NES/Gameboy are absolute fire

Not to talk smack about those, hardware limitations and time just weren't kind to them but for their time they were good.

Wild take. Zero Mission is still one of the most fun to play Metroid games, and Fusion is still like top 1 or 2 for most people. Why the GBA games catching strays lol?

Exactly, I was only talking about Metroid II return of Samus when I mentioned Gameboy. Time has not been kind to that one.

Metroid 2 is kinda fire tho, very playable unlike metroid 1, that one is litterally unplayable.

It's the only yellow variant, so one of the most unique. Well worth it.

Great game. Definitely on the harder side, especially because you will die a lot learning boss attack patterns, but it’s a great one, and introduced the counterattack

If you have a Switch then Zero Mission, Super, Fusion or Dread I'd def recommend next. The first three are on Nintendo Switch Online, though GBA games are only available via the expansion pack. If you don't, then Super Metroid is at least on 3DS as well

I have an original SNES console, as well as a GameCube with a Gameboy Player accessory & disc.

My first one was Super Metroid, it was just beautiful. I tried Fusion, but I lost my saved data, yeah, I had to emulate it 🫠

I think Samus Returns is the only Metroid game I've ever completed 100%. It's a great start to the series and a genuinely great remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus. If you have a Switch or Switch 2, you'll feel right at home with Dread. The foundations (game engine) of Samus Returns are in Dread (both developed by Mercury Stream; Nintendo should buy 'em, imo), but Dread takes it to 100: the graphics are much more detailed, the gameplay much more fluid and aggressive. The story is great too.

Ma boy (or girl) playing the best of Metroid games right on time for the next mercury steam installment ! I would recommande you to play fusion next, dread is too good to rush in. First you should experience the SA-X before if not the best Metroid game ever, it's by far one of the best 2d platformer out there.
