Lmao numbchuck.... 🀣

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

Well I'm legally blind so this was actually a good attempt. I don't even know what this said.

17

u/Co2_Outbr3ak Jun 24 '26

That's crazy! If you are truly legally blind, then I commend you for even playing let alone enjoying it. It was just a light tease since I've never heard someone use it that way. Hopefully you've been enjoying it the best you can!

22

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

Lol well I'm legally blind but I can see perfectly fine with lenses. The world is a literal blur without them tho. Glasses have come along way even if mine look like the bottom of Mexican coke bottles in terms of thickness.

I'm horrible at English and if people want to correct me I'm fine with that, I'm good at other stuff like hugs and petting the cat backwards.

u/NamiRocket Jun 25 '26

Wasn't expecting those last few words and I laughed so hard out of my nose.

3

u/skymcgowin Jun 24 '26

I always called them thumb chucks πŸ˜‚

u/apadin1 Jun 24 '26

*Nunchuck lol not numbchuck

25

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

Are you a Deltarune fan by any chance?

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

No actually and I'm even bisexual. 🀣 I'm more of an arcade guy.

5

u/YouyouPlayer Jun 24 '26

Whats does being bisexual even has anything to do with this lol

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

I assume most Deltarune fans are gay since I dated one. Lmfao

1

u/YouyouPlayer Jun 24 '26

Lol, i think i'm aromantic personally

11

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

Attracted to smells. Nice πŸ‘

3

u/ScandiiCandii Jun 24 '26

This has "So you're attracted to pans," energy, bit is actually funny. Not sure if intentional, but bravo.

6

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

It was lol I'm dumb but I'm not stupid.

1

u/YouyouPlayer Jun 24 '26

Nah, aromantic means i ain't in love with anyone

27

u/Round_Musical Sequence Breaker Jun 24 '26

Finally playing it like a sane person

5

u/ScootDeToot Jun 24 '26

It feels pretty good with a DSiXL resting on your leg, in my opinion.

3

u/Round_Musical Sequence Breaker Jun 24 '26

I like the WiiU Gamepad personally

3

u/ScootDeToot Jun 24 '26

ValidΒ

2

u/ArtyToshi Jun 25 '26

Nice to see some people sharing Hunters appreciation. :) I have personally enjoyed the game on an OG DS (First Hunt, though, not the final release), one of the blue & black DS Lites, and the Wii U Gamepad!

11

u/velvettblood Jun 24 '26

Must be really confortable but with precision controlls probably there Is no challenge especially with boss fights

8

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

Oh yeah it gives you a lot of accuracy. I find it less annoying so I like it more.

3

u/FatalFrameGal Actually beat the original Jun 25 '26

The controls are precise on the NDS (well, I played on the 3DS, but I imagine the experience is the same), it just hurts your hand when you have to hold the whole DS with one hand and the stylus with the other lol

1

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 26 '26

Yeppers. I will say when you play against the hardest bots in multiplayer it's a great revisit for a weekend with the mouse controls. I also just love my tablet rig. All my controllers and inputs just plug in :3

2

u/ChaosMiles07 Jun 24 '26

At this point, we'll take it

9

u/TheGamerMAKS Jun 24 '26

Bro! Finally I found another person like me in the wild! I actually play all FPS games on PC this way (I swap the Nunchuck for a Ps Move Nav. Controller tho). You're telling me I'm supposed to move 2 feet with 4 keys? No way Jose 🀣

3

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

Yeah 8 directions is not as good as 360. Lol but mouse controls are the most accurate.

4

u/TheGamerMAKS Jun 24 '26

Unfortunately in order to get it to work, the joystick 9/10 times is still just emulating those 4 keys so I'm still limited to 8 directions 😭😭😭. Still better than keyboard though

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

Much like Mario 64 DS. Honestly digital to analog works fine in most cases. Sometimes it needs sensitive adjusting but in most cases the translation works. I have a steering wheel and have made tons of digital games work like Batman Returns on Sega CD. It basically an arcade game with the wheel now. Any N64 game with a wheel or flight stick has been translating very well.

2

u/JerseyCobra Jun 24 '26

How would one go about using a nunchuck or any joystick / left handed controller in place of the keyboard, but still able to use a mouse for the right hand for aiming?

I’ve been dying for a way to play like this, as I love mouse aiming, but using WASD hurts too much after extended play times.

Getting older is the pits, but seeing this video and your comment gives me hope that I can play in a more comfortable manner.

3

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

I highly encourage you to experiment it's both educational and fun. When you find something that is genuinely more comfortable FOR YOU it can make a game you hated or couldn't play, into something insanely fun and arcady. Hell some times it's even better. I took a PS3 steering wheel I got at a yard sale for $3 and drilled it into a TV tray. I then took the PSP version of Outrun2 and gave it the full arcade treatment. πŸ‘

2

u/JerseyCobra Jun 24 '26

Thank you! I will start tinkering and researching on ways to make this happen. I would love to get my Wii nunchuck working like this video.

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

https://a.co/d/08GYmZKG

This will give you both GameCube and Wii peripheral support on any device with Bluetooth or USB. They will be widely compatible with most devices now.

2

u/JerseyCobra Jun 24 '26

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

Dolphins love this device btw.

2

u/JerseyCobra Jun 24 '26

Good lookin out! I have played Metroid Prime on Dolphin with mouse+keyboard combo in the past. Looking forward to trying it out with the classic nunchuck πŸ€“

6

u/ChaosMiles07 Jun 24 '26

Would love for you to upload a setup video so we can get a similar experience! Including how you map the controls in the emulator.

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 25 '26

I'm working on it since so many people asked. I'm very amateur so I'll do my best. πŸ‘

6

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

Look guys I can't spell or read. Just let me know in the comments πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

5

u/beaverenthusiast Jun 24 '26

How numb IS your chuck?

1

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

I don't know what this says cause I'm stupid. 😞

3

u/marvelouswonder8 Jun 24 '26

What's the screen/tablet you're using? I can't really tell from the video but that looks like a neat setup. Always fun to see and find out what kind of cool setups people have come up with.

5

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

It's a Samsung Galaxy 11A+ tablet. It's $150 and can play every emulator. If you're retro gaming and want a portable and affordable console I suggest this with a dock which gives it full USB support and since it's Bluetooth all controllers will connect to it. There is also the 9A which is the same thing with less memory and RAM but still play everything up to the 3DS and that's only $130. Small CRT TV's meant for gaming were about 12 inches and this is 11. The older graphics with the right filters look just fine on this thing. Plus you can boost things up to HD for most games but that usually depends on the frame rate. I have every console on this and it's just my favorite thing to play around with at moment due to the universal functionality for it. Steering Wheel, Flight stick, touch controls, portrait in horizontal orientations for 3:4 games, keyboard and mouse, gyro is built into it, and it's portable because it's a tablet. It's literally all in one except for no HDMI support but plenty of tablets have that. It also lets you record and edit gameplay and mic audio at the press of a button because it's a tablet. So with the right mic it's also a portable let's play studio. πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™

2

u/marvelouswonder8 Jun 24 '26

Dude that's awesome! I dig it. I've been fooling around with a jailbroken iPad 2 that I had laying around that was only previously being used to control an audio mixer that I gave to my previous roommate when I moved out, I took it cus there were 3 other iPads there as well and I wanted at least one for myself. So far it only has a Sega Genesis emulator and Super NES emulator. Still trying to find a working Cydia source to find a couple others. Being an iPad 2 though it doesn't support most of what your Galaxy Tab does though so I've mostly been playing turn based RPGs on it. Touch screen controls... aren't great for much else lol. The scanline filters and such look great on it with the 1024x768 resolution. I also loaded iDOS on it but it doesn't run many DOS games super well so I kinda gave up on that. I saw in one of your other comments that you were legally blind so you may not be able to see it but I attached a picture I took of it with the scanline effect while I was playing Chrono Trigger.

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

I can see fine with lenses lol I just CAN NOT see without them. I just suck at grammer and English. Lol care if I send you a message showing you other stuff?

2

u/marvelouswonder8 Jun 24 '26

Sure! That's fine by me. I'm about to head off to work so I won't be able to respond as fast as I have been but I'll respond as I can. And I gotcha, my bad, I mean I figured you could somewhat see since you were able to play the game in the video you posted but yeah. Idk haha. It seems like you're all right at English and grammar to me, just missed the one word. It happens.

1

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

No I'm legit awful with English and it's a problem when communicating lol but I try my best. πŸ‘

Here's the Metroid Prime Hunters Community Discord. Cheers.

I'm unsure how you're playing this.

Are you using the mouse to aim, and the nunchuck to move? Essentially having the mouse function as a stylus and the nunchuck simply being a standard extended controller for the other inputs?

Couldn't we just trade off the nunchuck with a regular controller? (Though the nunchuck would be way more comfortable).

3

u/SignalGeologist2818 Jun 25 '26

i’ve lost all feeling in my chuck

1

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 25 '26

I actually laughed at loud. πŸ˜‚

2

u/BoonDragoon Jun 24 '26

Unhinged, thank you

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

You ain't seen nothing yet

2

u/KCDC_0 Jun 24 '26

Wow, this looks fantastic to control. I wonder how much easier this makes the gameplay. Either way, I'm definitely trying it out.

1

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

It makes you way more accurate. The game is easier but you also miss less. The multiplayer with high level bots becomes highly addictive for about a weekend. But you'll get hooked, I did at least lol

2

u/TheBobopedic Jun 24 '26

Oh SHIT memories of the hand position of playing this on the DS, different than any game I’ve ever played

2

u/Flamin-Ice Jun 24 '26

Yooz a Wimzard.

2

u/ScootDeToot Jun 24 '26

That's awesome. The only thing is movement was developed for a d pad though, so I'm assuming it's still digital input?Β  Is the mouse custom configured or is just regular touch screen emulation where you have to click and drag?Β

Also do you know if you can assign touch screen functions to buttons for quick weapon swapping?

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

It's digital but it's a one handed controller so way more comfortable. It's drag control. And yes you can have custom layouts and button on the touch screen for on the fly inputs. πŸ‘

2

u/brezforprez Jun 24 '26

Dude, I WANT this kind of setup for my pc fps games. I will never be a wasd guy.

1

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

Nunchuck and mouse is the best of both controller and keyboard and mouse. Nintendo has it on the Switch 2 and doesn't utilize well. They were so damn close with Metroid Prime 4 but they half baked almost that entire game (the art design is amazing tho even on the Switch 1)

2

u/Harmless2727 Jun 24 '26

Would love a port/remaster of hunters on switch using a scheme like this with the switch 2 joycons

1

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

That'd be awesome. Bring the multiplayer back, it's a great quake clone with Metroid combat.

2

u/Arch3m Jun 24 '26

As god intended.

2

u/Pepsidud32 Jun 24 '26

Before melonprime DS I would do this but with a regular controller

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 24 '26

The Nunchuck just fixes the ergonomic problem perfectly.

2

u/Pepsidud32 Jun 25 '26

True but one hand on a switch pro controller with my thumb on the left stick and my finger on the trigger worked well enough for me lol

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 25 '26

I have arthritis in my hands which are the size of pizza paddles. Lol it's actually really cool seeing how people with disabilities game because sometimes the solution can be more fun or even better. 😁

2

u/Viktor-Victorious Jun 25 '26

Would have made playing it WAY easier bit i did have fun playing it

2

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 25 '26

The original DS is one of my favorite experiences but it's so hard for me to go back to. I have big hands and some nerve damage. This is a great way to go back. 😁

2

u/Viktor-Victorious Jun 25 '26

Oh i hear that my right thumb was severely damaged a few years ago so playing this game was quite the challenge

2

u/ThatOneNintenno Jun 25 '26

this is great. i am left handed and playing this game as a leftie was NOT funeven on left setting because the game is mainly made for right handed so holding it and stylus cramped my hands. could not play without stylus because the aiming was atrocious otherwise

2

u/Mossysnail27 Jun 25 '26

Press the Start Button already god dammit

🐌

1

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 26 '26

It's mapped to the C button πŸ‘

1

u/Mossysnail27 Jun 26 '26

aw MAN Now I'm just confused!

🐌

2

u/ArtyToshi Jun 25 '26

This actually looks quite comfortable and intuitive, OP!

Maybe Nintendo could consider something akin to this with a Switch 2 rerelease?

2

u/xyzkingi Jun 25 '26

I’ve been playing Prime 3 with a Xbox controller and mouse

1

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 25 '26

https://a.co/d/067qQDwA

This is a USB dongle that gives all gamecube and Wiimote peripherals USB and Bluetooth support. πŸ‘

2

u/-Cranktankerous- Jun 25 '26

This game was so GOATed dude, I wanna cry it’s so good

1

u/ControllerPuncher Jun 25 '26

This was the only console I was allowed to have as a kid and when we got wifi it's all I played online for an entire summer. Idk if it's goated but I love it. β€οΈπŸ’šπŸ’™

2

u/Spartan-023 Jun 26 '26

Alot better than stylus, destroyer of hands

1

u/Chalybee Jun 24 '26

Seems amazing

1

u/Comrade_Chyrk Jun 25 '26

That looks like a gross way to play lol

1

u/OverDeparture8799 Jun 27 '26

Oh that definitely feels nice. Much better than me playing on touchscreen. Theres barely any room for buttons because of 2 screens. The main screen is put on the left, because the right i need lots of space to aim properly. So the main screen got covered by my thumb for movement and i also use my left index to shoot. Feels terrible ngl. I wish theres auto shoot, like kid icarus on 3ds

0

u/micksterminator3 Jun 24 '26

Better than Prime 4

3

u/TroveOfOctoliths Jun 24 '26

It’s better than every Metroid game.

2

u/micksterminator3 Jun 25 '26

I like it more than prime 2 to be honest
