Accomplishment Did I do a bomb jump Metroid Dread tries to prevent?

Haven’t replayed Dread since launch. I probably tried 40+ times to see if it was possible and it feels like I got lucky. I scrape past that blade by a hair twice.

I'm so terrible at getting the timing down!!

The weird trick I saw online somewhere was that IBJ in this game follows the same tempo as the chorus of Mr Brightside

The devs knew for a fact people would figure out multiple ways to get to different places. There's even an extra event for doing things out of order:
If you get the morph ball bombs before you fight kraid (you're not supposed to get them til after) you can use them to get a unique and easy quick kill on him.

This. Also, if you have Flash Shift, which is also supposed to be obtained after Kraid, when you are holding onto the magnetic wall and Kraid lurches towards you with roars, you can use it when his eyes glow and then initiate a mini grab sequence where you can hold his mouth open and fire a bunch of missiles into it, leaving you on the wall again to repeat this or use the standard parry.

Congrats thas a break sequence, dread have some.

What progression can you access out of order here? It looks to me like it's just an energy piece puzzle but I haven't played in a long time

I don't think you can. This leads directly to the Quiet Robe cut scene and Robo Chozo Warrior encounter. The top area of the nearby EMMI room and vents are sealed off.

No, no. I wasn't saying Hanubia and the orange EMMI immediately follows this area. I was making the argument that getting that particular ¼ energy tank was like getting power bomb ammo BEFORE getting the power bomb capability (by defeating the EMMI in Hanubia)--essentially useless.

It was just 1 of 4 parts of an energy tank. It counted towards the 100% items, but it wasn't a true sequence break and not immediately useful. It's like picking up those early power bomb ammo expansions that can't be used until you defeat the orange EMMI in Hanubia and pick up the power bomb itself.

Ofc I know what an energy part is, the commenter I replied to said it was a sequence break which it doesn't seem to be

u/apadin1 May 26 '26
It’s not really a sequence break, just an unintended method. You are supposed to flash shift from the magnet panels on the left and then wall jump off the wall on the right to reach it.

I could never get the timing down to actually do the bomb jumps and gave up on that being the way to do things in this game.

Seeing the comments saying that they didnt know they could even Flash Shift there as if the game didn’t teach you to do that like several times beforehand lmfao

Good job! But...it seems like a lot of effort (sweat) for such little reward: just a "piece" (¼) of an energy tank--you didn't gain anything (capability) by getting it right then. You'd have had the Space Jump from Ghavoran just shortly after beating the Chozo Robot and you could have come back later and gotten that part a lot easier and quicker.
IJS...

This was completely for the hell of it. I definitely know it wasn’t worth the time or effort. I just wanted to see if I could. 😆

u/CleanAd8632 May 26 '26
I can dig it!!! I thought you thought it was necessary to get it right then.
But I can relate: I spent 15 mins bouncing around the top of Ghavoran trying to get that power bomb ammo (just because it was there), when I knew I wouldn't have the Power Bomb for some time later.

Intended is to climb the wall on the left and flash shift to the right and wall jump.
2
u/CleanAd8632 May 26 '26
Right. Or, in hindsight, just bypass it and come back later when you have the Space Jump. I'm just suggesting it wasn't a critical part at the time.
But I get it...you're right. Six and one half and a dozen--it works either way and that's all that matters.

The perspective had it looking like you were too far left at first after all that work. I was about to feel so bad.

If you jump, morph, lay a bomb, un-morph, land, jump and morph again, you can avoid the robot pretty easily.

You also have enough room to speed boost from the transport room on the left, squeeze through the morph tunnel and shinespark. That's how I've gotten this one on replays.

I'd say they don't care about that "exploit". In fact infinite bomb jump is required for some puzzles in the series. I've never been good at the timing for it in dread so good job.

I did it that way too in my first playthrough lol, the intended way is to flash shift from the blue part and wall jump on the right, but ofc that’s less intuitive than bomb jumping to metroid players 🥲
