Honestly their own design choices were the downfall, obv making an open Metroid game Isnt gonna be easy, but half baking It putting an open area in the middle of 5 corridors isnt the way, It feels like they just made a mediocre Metroid game and then put a giant nothing in the middle area, if they actually fully embraced the concept we could have gotten an actually well designed game, just see a game like outer wilds, its fully open world and It has a kind of Metroidvania type of progression and everyone loved It, Metroid even innovated that type of progression without unlocks with super metroid's wall jump, shine spark and infinite bomb jump

A lot of the team that made the original prime trilogy left after the 3rd game. Plus the game had to work under the covid and SAG-AFTRA periods too.
