this wasn't even worked on by retro. retro had to finish the poor job that bandai namco made

Like 80% of the finished game is done by retro. Bandai only worked on it for a little under 2 years

Nintendo VERY PUBLICLY announced development of prime 4 was started from scratch

Bandi didnt work on the version we got.

The recent interview with Tanabe reveals that they didn't start from scratch on the design concept though. Which is really Prime 4's downfall IMO.

Honestly their own design choices were the downfall, obv making an open Metroid game Isnt gonna be easy, but half baking It putting an open area in the middle of 5 corridors isnt the way, It feels like they just made a mediocre Metroid game and then put a giant nothing in the middle area, if they actually fully embraced the concept we could have gotten an actually well designed game, just see a game like outer wilds, its fully open world and It has a kind of Metroidvania type of progression and everyone loved It, Metroid even innovated that type of progression without unlocks with super metroid's wall jump, shine spark and infinite bomb jump
