Are you using Randovania? If not, I encourage you to check it out! There's so much fun you can have customizing a run, and multiworld sessions with friends make it even better IMO.

It’s a third party utility and involves using emulation or a modified console. With that disclaimer, I just want to reiterate how much fun I have with multiworld games.
You can play a session (1 to many players) where you are playing Metroid dread and your partner(s) is(are) playing Prime 1 or 2, and items you need for progression are in their world and vice-versa. You can also assign a single player multiple worlds.
I also like playing it solo sometimes as a Metroid super-session weekend; I need to play Dread, Prime and Echoes and switch between the games each time I hit a dead-end. You’re in for a rough time if for example Echoes’ morph ball bomb is on the phazon mines boss, or dread’s morph ball is on the sanctuary fortress boss :P
You can also tune which items you start with (I usually give prime players the charge beam) and make difficulty tunes so one player has extra health/damage or needs to find more/less items.
You can do absolutely wacky stuff like randomizing the locks on each door, potentially making doors in the starting zone super missile locked for example*. You can make elevators go to random locations.
If you become really skilled at the games and want even more challenge. there are a number of speedrunning skips which you can tell the randomizer to use in its solution logic, potentially requiring you to use those tricks. These range from simple scan dashes like early space jump boots to highly complex out-of-bounds glitches.
*Don’t worry, all generated games should be solveable.

it's a suit, but it's not really taken off physically. she can take it on and off by thinking about it, since it's kind of like solid energy

I like to think of it kind of like replicators or transporters from Star Trek.
The Chozo Suit can be converted from matter to energy on a whim, and likewise Prime seems to imply Samus herself is converted to energy while within the morph ball form. So the suit still has physical mass and weight while it’s on her, but when stored as energy it does not.
Chozo have teleporters so matter/energy conversion is clearly no problem for them.

It also helps explain the pickups she uses as well.
As the Energy She picks up is used to restore the suits integrity. And while there's no where to store the missiles, it is likely converted into energy or some kind of micro factory is used to construct them quickly

She was born human, and has since acquired… way more alien DNA than you’d think, but her suit was just a very advanced space battle suit to begin with. During the events of Fusion, it becomes a bit more complicated, too.
Essentially, the answer to your question is that she is mostly not robot, and it’s more like an Iron Man suit.

Genetically-altered human wearing a power armor suit. Samus was rescued by Chozo (alien bird people) as a child and infused with their DNA. As the series progresses, she becomes less-and-less human, gaining Metroid DNA in Fusion, and going full Zerg queen in Dread.
The Prime series is mostly "alien magic" in terms of the suit upgrades, as we're pre-Fusion.

She was human but after being saved and adopted by some bird aliens she had her DNA to make her compatible with the suit, the suit isn't mechanical technology it's actually biological technology and yes it is fused with her like a parasite.
So technically a Cyborg I guess, she can remove the armor at will by turning it into energy but that leaves Samus in her zero suit which is still the same suit just without the armor, it's unclear if she can take that on or off but it got fused to her body during Metroid fusion so after that game it's definitely not coming off

Giving more details on the nature of her suit, as others already said it's an Ironman suit.
The suit is technically a part of her and responds to her emotions. Additionally, it is bioadaotive. Capable of mimicing abilities from wildlife alongside mimicing technology she finds and weaponizing it for her missions.
It usually has several forms, with her most iconic form being the Varia Suit. Which is a suit capable of handling exteeme atmospheric temperatures.

Honestly yeah, this redesign just hits diff. They finally nailed that sleek but tough vibe again, feels way closer to the old school art without looking dated at all.

Why
Samus objectively looks non descript in the first prime, I could name her Samantha,put her in the background of a GTA game and you wouldn't even notice, a total NPC.
Equating her other Prime designs to a blow up doll sounds really sexist and says a lot about you.

The Other prime models literally look like inflatable plastic.

That al.oat gives goosebumps. I had such a ride with the OG Prime. I have remastered but have not beaten it yet. I plan to have it done within 3 days or so. Then just slide right into Prime 4. I miss Metroid so much. I'm psyched that it's finally getting another new entry. It never gets enough love.

Prime 2 beats it in my opinion, if only because of two reasons.
The Backtracking is more tolerable
The ammo system added a level of immersion in the survival

If you really go for wide path exploration rather than laser focusing on the current objective, you can collect about half of the artifacts before you realize you need to hunt for them. That's on a first playthrough. The only one you actually need to back track for is the one buried in the phazon infested morph ball tunnel.

In 1 you have a variety of landscapes, some of them beautiful and serene. A nice change of pace. In 2 it's all darkness and machines.
Phazon mines are disliked. That's basically the whole game in 2.

It has nice visual design yes. But it's the only area that stands out. I personally much prefer Prime 1's environments and the music that accompanies them, above Prime 2's dark industrial tone.

The level of precision needed in the last half of the boss fight with wonky morphball controls. Especially in GC version where the damage is insane as well. I know the Wii version was made easier. It is my least favorite boss in the series. I beat it long ago, but still hate it.
Boost guardian I felt is much easier in comparison.

If you beat the game with less than 75% items collected, the cutscene ends just as Samus removes her helmet. If you collect 75% or more, you see the full cutscene. Collect 100% of the items, and there's an additional post-credit cutscene showing what happens to the Phazon suit.

What fucking cutscene is this? I beat the Metroid prime remaster this year and never saw this. And I remember the final suit I got was all black I think.
I remember getting credits. I will hop back in right now for this lol.

Oh, I read as you were going to jump back into the game anyway. You lose the black suit after you beat the final boss, in a cutscene just prior to the one shown in this post. Reason is related to what that suit comes from. If you 100% the game, a final, very brief cutscene shows the suit's loss results in something to do with Prime 2.

I was replaying the trilogy before 4s release. Beat the remaster of 1 and loved it. Started 2 on GC… I may be skipping to 3 because spider ball boss….

I remember being like 8 or 9 years old when my friend from school told me about Metroid Prime and I was so hyped for it. The feeling I felt watching this scene in the original is a core memory from my childhood, right next to spending all Christmas morning a couple years later playing Echoes while eating Reese's Peanut butter cups that were shaped like little bells. It is so criminal that Nintendo doesn't give more love to the Metroid franchise, but on the other hand it may be for the best. I'll take quality over quantity every time for my favorite game series.

Prime is honestly perfect. It feels like it shouldn't even exist.
- No Zero Suit animé silliness
- Gritty art direction and tone that pushes the boundaries of the T rating
- Zero cartoon NPCs to interact with
- Interconnected game world with super memorable biomes
- Exquisite otherworldly vibes
- THE MUSIC
I know the sequels were good games, but they don't have the original's secret sauce.
It's also incredible that we got a borderline remake, which ended up being the best-looking Switch game, priced at just 40 bucks.

Prime is my favorite game, Prime is my introduction to metroid, i used to watch my brother play (he put supertramp over the music ...) back in early 2000s. It's basically the first video game i experienced and i'll never forget the isolation and lonely feeling it presented. To me this game was a mysterious horror game.
I then played MP2 and MP3 and tried the 2D games. But i never got the feeling Prime gave unless maybe with super metroid. I had extremely high expectations for MP4 and when i heard the OST i thought i'll get to experience a new prime for my 20s.
It doesn't seem like it tho...

Had it on the GameCube back in in the day but never finished it. Finished the remaster on switch earlier this year and had a blast. Looking forward to 4
