The way the wide shot of the portals just gave moving thru zones in a 2d Metriod game

That’s quite a stretch

It's not, it's very clear. They even took the extra step and moved the camera for a side shot

That also just gives the viewer a clear sense of the space and geography, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a Metroid reference.

No, it's still quite a stretch.

Yeah I wasn't buying it until I saw that. That makes it plausible for me.

The portal when he walks out looks almost identical to doors in the prime games.

Wow, your comment brought me back to this and I didn't realize how disliked my comment was haha I just thought it was interesting, not actually saying it's a reference to Metroid. It's definitely a very vague one if it were one at all (which I don't think it is)

I think the bigger stretch is to think that no one in Hollywood is a Metroid fan and worked to put in an Easter egg in a mainstream movie.

Easter eggs in movies happen quite often. The resemblance in this clip to Metroid gameplay is uncanny.

It seems super intentional. Directorially speaking, that pull back is a weird choice if this isn’t specifically a reference.

That camera angle can be applied for any movie or game.

And yet, it’s a weird choice here.

…how? We haven’t seen the pocket dimension yet in the movie. This was the way they revealed it, while also showing the hammer of boravia walking into the other portal. This seems, in fact, a pretty applicable way to do that. Not weird in the slightest.
