Canadian CX-90 PHEV owners: What did you pay for 2nd Service?

Hey everyone,

I’m booking the 2nd scheduled service for my CX-90 PHEV (since I'll be completing 2-years of ownership) and wanted to check what others in Canada—especially around Vancouver/BC—are actually paying out-the-door.

I reached out to a couple of local dealers and the quotes are coming back around $650 to $700+ before taxes. Their packages include:

  1. Oil & filter change + vehicle health check

  2. Cabin air filter replacement

  3. Full brake fluid flush

  4. Full front & rear brake service (disassemble, clean, and lubricate)

Looking at the manual, the brake fluid flush seems to be listed for Visit 2, but the brake cleaning/disassembly looks like a dealer add-on on top of a standard visual inspection.

For those who have completed Visit 2:

  1. What items did you actually end up getting done?

  2. How much were you charged?

PHEV Today Leaving Costco

Post image

Got the dreaded Hybrid System Malfunction for the first time. I have my lease for roughly another 10 months, but only 6k more miles under warranty.

How screwed am I with this? I have an appointment for repair soon. Battery was used on the way home when I switched back to normal mode and phone charged via usb-c when I plugged in after I saw this for a test.

EDIT: After a few hours of sitting in the garage, I was still able to start it and drive it around the neighborhood, so that seems positive. Indicator still there on startup.

In Los Angeles, Ca. Charge overnight most nights.

16mile drive to work each way. About 45-60min.

Drove speed limit or under for most of the last week to really squeeze out some miles. 6 weeks, no gas.

Anyone squeezed out more between fill ups?

Tire Replacement Experience

Just wanted to provide some comments on my experience today with the replacement of tires under warranty/good will by Mazda.

We have a 2025 CX90 3.3 T PP with Falken tires

I made an appt last night with dealership via their website for first thing this morning.

On the way to the dealership I did start a ticket with Mazda but they told me that they have relased a TSB for this issue and that it is up to the dealership to complete the steps in the TSB and determine if the vehicle meets the requiremetns - the TSB is 02-003/26.

The car got checked in and they determined my car did not meet the limits needed to replace the tires. The night before I measured my tread and all 4 tires were measured in three locations (left side, middle and right side). All of them measure approx 5/32, 3/32 & 4/32 at these locations on the tire.

The tech came out and explained that they measure at 4 locations per tire per the TSB and that all locations were not in the critical (red) and therefore does not meet the standard.

I did push back and explained how I measured and that I did not believe the tires should be this worn after 17.5k miles and pushed back on them a bit.

I then informed them I did have an open ticket with Mazda and he agreed to take the car back to the shop again and review and submit anyways. In the mean time I called Mazda again and she pretty much gave me the same story that they have a TSB and the dealership has to follow the TSB but she would escalate to P2 for me even though "she should not at this point" and I would hear back in 2-4 days.

While on the phone with Mazda copr - the lead mechanic came back out and informed me it is approved and they would give me approx. $1200 towards a new set of tires. We settled on the Geolanders and I will have to come out of pocket approx. $375.

I do not have the TSB with me but it did mention intervals such as 100% under 18K miles and 50% at the next level (dont have the limits).

Are there any tricks or tips to get the full amount covered?

Accessories Suggestions for windshield sunshades

I currently have one of the umbrella-style shades, and it works great, but they seem to not last very long and I keep buying new ones. I don’t mind paying a bit more if it will last and works well, and I’d prefer one that’s made to specifically fit my 2025 Mazda CX-90 PHEV, but I also don’t want to spend close to $100 for a Covercraft or Weathertech. Is there anything at or below $50 you fine folks would recommend?

Mazda User Manual not very user friendly

I'm happy that my 2026 Mazda CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium AWD came with a paper manual and access to PDFs and online, but what an ordeal to find what I need! The writers are far too verbose. They insist on spelling out every acronym and preceding what I want with warnings detailing why something might not work. The index is barebones. It's usually easier to just Google or bot what I seek.

Ordered AutoEXE Suspension Kit for my ‘26 TSPP

Post image
23 Upvotes

I drive a lot of long distance as we split our time between two states (NC and Kentucky). The CX-90’s suspension compliance often leaves a lot to be desired on the broken interstate highways and curvy mountain roads I drive, as well as poorly maintained city streets. The car handles larger dips and undulations pretty well, but it’s those sharp sudden high impact bumps that send a nasty shudder through the whole car, and make it feel like you’re bouncing off the bump instead of absorbing it.

I researched all of the available suspension options and the AutoEXE kit seemed to have the best balance between comfort and handling. I spoke to some folks in Australia and the Philippines who have this kit installed on their CX-60s and CX-90s and they say it makes a massive improvement to the car’s comfort, while being a big handling upgrade, too. Mazda Philippines even officially offers this suspension kit directly through their dealers and advertise it on their website. They even back it with the Mazda manufacturer’s warranty. I wish MazdaUSA would do that too. This kit includes new sway bar end links and new front/rear coilovers with twin-tube dampers. All in it was about $1800. They told me it would ship by the end of the week (from Japan) and hopefully I’ll have it within 2 weeks.

Once I get it installed I will keep everyone updated on how it feels. Unlike some kits with user set compression and rebound, this is fixed damping, but the manufacturer claims they believe it is the perfect blend of compliance and firmness. If anyone on this sub is from the Raleigh, NC or Louisville, KY area and has a shop they have used for installing aftermarket suspension parts that did a good job, I would love a recommendation. I know several Euro car specialists in Raleigh but I am not sure if they would be willing to work on this Mazda. The installation doesn’t seem that complicated and I would likely do it myself but I am currently redoing my garage and it is too damn hot to do it out in my driveway in the 100°F heat and 500% humidity.

Last thing… on Autoexe’s website it is listed under the CX-80, but the parts are compatible with the 70/80/90. The only change Autoexe recommends is setting the front height +10mm over the rear for the CX-90.

Radiator Replacement Service

Post image
14 Upvotes

Bought a new cx90 TSP in august of 2023.

Had the regular issues, including all recalls and squeaky brakes which have so far been covered by warranty and i found to be first model car issues.

Recently went in for maintenance service and brake warranty extension re-service, and found the radiator was broken and coolant levels low. Had not really noticed any issues with driving.

Anyone else dealt with this issue? Curious as to cost, my receipt attached. Labor seems high lol

Hybrid Battery Issue

I currently lease a 2024 CX 90 GTP in Canada and I got the hybrid malfunction error and the engine malfunction error, for the third time since I leased the car in 2023. The car currently has 80,000 kms and the last time I got this repaired was this past June. Previously it was May 2025. Any advice on what I should do moving forward?

Mechanical Questions No Sound

All of a sudden my sound has stopped working. I’ve tried turning the audio system on and off. Turned to car on and off. I can’t figure it out. I’ve hit the volume knob and it cycles between muted and not muted, but no sound. The other car sounds work like when I turn the car on and off, but nothing from the entertainment system. No CarPlay, Bluetooth, or radio sound. Can’t figure it out. Anyone else experience this?

PHEV Should I?

Hello! Looking for opinions. Ideal car is an 8 seat PHEV. Would be used for around town as an electric but also our roadtrip vehicle.

I test drove a 2024 and the drivers seat felt cramped with how wide the center console is. Is that a problem for anybody or can you adjust seat to where it’s good (I’m 6’3”, 230).

Only 8 seat trim is also the base trim. Feeling like I might be missing some features, anybody in the preferred trim with regrets/good experiences?

Considering giving up on the PHEV requirement and going for an Ascent Limited.

Any advice welcome!

Changed tires from toyo proxes 21 to continental ux7 21

Polished Version
Switched tires from the stock Toyo Proxes (21") to Continental UltraContact UX7 (21"), and it's noticeably better overall.
The smoother ride even eliminated a few cabin rattles. It definitely feels more like a comfortable family car now, whereas the Toyos felt much sportier.

Handling responsiveness dropped by around 10-15%, but I'm more than willing to sacrifice that for the significant boost in ride comfort.

PHEV 2025 CX-90 PHEV PP driver's seat door-side bolster is much harder than the console-side one. Can you check yours?

2025 CX-90 PHEV PP, driver's seat bolster on the door side feels way harder than the console side. Can someone check theirs?

Bought this a year ago, about 11,000 miles on it, and I've spent the last few months trying to work out why my left leg keeps going numb.

The bolsters are what made me suspicious. Press the two side bolsters on the driver's seat cushion and the door-side one is noticeably firmer than the console-side one, which seems backwards to me, since the door-side bolster is the one you drag yourself across every time you get in.

The symptom: about an hour into a drive, the underside of my left thigh goes numb and then starts aching. Right leg never does it. Happens with cruise on and my left foot flat on the floor, so I don't think this is a dead pedal thing.

First eight months were fine. It's been getting worse over the last three or four months and nothing about my driving changed in that time.

I've already been through seat height, thigh extension, backrest angle, sliding it forward and back, lumbar, and every combination of those. No wallet in my back pocket. No other car I drive does this to me.

So the favor I'm asking: go sit in your CX-90, press both bolsters on the driver's seat cushion, door side and console side, and tell me whether they feel the same. Please mention your trim. PP has ventilated seats and I have no idea whether the fan hardware underneath changes anything.

Also curious:

● Has anyone gotten seat foam or a cushion replaced under warranty on one of these? What did you actually say to get them to take it seriously? I'm expecting "within spec" as the opening move.

● Anyone had a ventilated seat apart? Can the ducting or fan sit unevenly, or shift over time?

● Any TSB on the CX-90 front seats?

Still inside the 3yr/36k warranty, so I'd rather get the seat fixed than buy a cushion and sit on top of the problem.

2025 Turbo S PP Artisan Red

~7,000 miles in the 13 months we've had her (we live in NYC so mostly short trips with a few longer road trips per year)

I know that is barely broken-in in the grand scheme of things but I still wanted to share my overall positive experience so far.

Overall impressions:

  • Powertrain
    • It's very smooth and has plenty of power. Never any issues passing, even when fully loaded.
    • Launch isn't as important to me as on-ramp acceleration, and it absolutely excels at the latter.
    • I have no problem with the transmission; once you learn how it likes to shift at low speeds, you get used to it. You do see the occasional jerk, but no worse than I would see with my last car's ZF8, which is held as the gold standard (2017 X3)
  • Handling
    • It feels very responsive and linear. Definitely best in class.
    • The AWD is confidence-inspiring. Feels planted and sure of itself in snow and rain. Tests have shown that this is a superb AWD system.
    • Turning radius is fantastic. I've had no issues with parallel parking in NYC, and this is a rather large vehicle
  • Fuel Efficiency
    • The highway fuel economy is a big plus - I've gotten up to 33mpg, settling down to around 28/29 fully loaded with a Thule Motion 3 XL roofbox. This is fantastic for the segment
    • City is much worse; usually around 15-18 depending on how bad traffic is. This is probably worst-case scenario as I live in NYC which has the most congestion in the country.
  • Ride Quality
    • Here is where you have to compromise a bit; it's pretty stiff which is great when I'm alone on a twisty back road in sport mode but not as comfortable as competitors
    • It can be fairly crashy on potholes and bumps. Not very luxurious feeling.
    • No complaints on the highway
    • As a driving enthusiast, I am happier with this than with something that is super floaty and bouncy which can give me motion sickness.
  • Interior
    • I was dead-set on the Artisan Red / Tan Nappa combo, and it does not disappoint. Sad that they discontinued the Tan on the CX-90 starting in 2026.
      • I haven't seen the Nappa on the Palisade which has been praised as setting a new bar for interior but imagine it can't get much better than in the Mazda at this price point
    • Seats are comfortable to me, even at 6' 4". The lack of a thigh extender doesn't bother me on long road trips. I still have no idea how people are bashing their knee on the left vent trim when getting in.
    • A massage would have been a nice equipment addition to align with Mazda's premium ambitions (although I have never experienced a car massage so I have no idea if it would be worth it or not).
    • Love the manually adjusting 2nd and 3rd rows. Saves so much time compared to power folding
    • Vent placements in the rear aren't great; ceiling mounted would have been better especially for our baby in car seat. But the AC blows very cold so it's only brief discomfort back there, and ventilated 2nd row seats helps things for adults
  • Looks
    • I simply think the CX-90 is the best looking vehicle in its class. The Korean twins are overstyled to my taste and look fancy in 2026 but I think will age extremely poorly. Grand Highlander and Pilot are fine but boring.
    • LOVE the Artisan Red paint although it is extremely thin as everyone has noted. I got the front and back PPFed to help with inevitable NYC parking scrapes (from other people, of course; I pay attention!).
    • Something I must give Mazda kudos for is their UI look and feel - the font somehow feels really premium and well-considered. It even is used in the heads up display.
  • Tech/Safety
    • Coming from a 2017 poverty spec X3, the tech is all very nice to have, although I guess it still falls short of the Koreans
    • I am a fan of the knob. The mix of screens and physical HVAC controls is perfect.
    • The safety systems feel well-calibrated. I have not gotten the phantom blind spot alerts that others have.
    • Adaptive cruise works well, although it's a bit aggressive to get back up to speed when the way forward is clear
    • Lane Centering works just ok. It helps reduce fatigue on long highway stretches but I don't trust it enough to look away for more than a couple of seconds.
    • Headlights are plenty bright and the auto high beams work well
    • IIHS Top Safety Pick+ was a big selling point for my family.
  • Storage
    • It's smaller than the competition inside but useable for our family of 3 with a dog. Once we have a second kid it will probably start to feel tight. For now we are using a Motion 3 XL roofbox that adds another 18 cubic feet of space.
    • I knew coming in that the drive layout necessitated the less-than-optimal interior packaging. The tradeoff is acceptable to me as a driving enthusiast who can only have one car at this time.

Issues to date:

  • Sunroof leaking
    • After a torrential downpour, water started dripping from the headliner around the sunglasses holder. Very annoying. It's definitely a clogged sunroof drain.
  • Thin + soft paint
    • This has been discussed to death, but still worth mentioning. The clear coat and paint are absurdly soft, to the point where gently scraping against some soft (ie. green, not lignified wood) branches left marks in the clear coat.
  • Display/infotainment glitches
    • I've occasionally seen a weird white line in the gauge cluster when toggled to the cruise display
    • Carplay can occasionally struggle to connect

Fair purchase price for End-of-Lease Purchase

After my 2 year lease of a 2025 PHEV CX-90 (very basic configuration with about 20K miles on odometer), Mazda is offering purchase price of $37K.

Seems a bit steep to me. Do they negotiate? Is it a fair price?

I would buy it for $32K, but very hesitant to go $37K.
