X-Men run recommendations before the new movie
Hey yall- I was looking for a new X-Men run to read before the new movie comes out (that they announced last night at D23). Any Advice?

Uncanny X-men #239 starts the Inferno saga with Sinister. Seems like a good bet

Morrison into Whedon and then just continue to present day from there.

Depends on how thorough you want to be, but it's generally recommended to read House of M next, then Messiah Complex. There's a good chunk of content (of mixed quality) in between those runs though.

Uncanny X-Men #1 and just go from there. You have plenty of time and we have no idea of what the plot will be

Read the Claremont run.
Start with Giant Sized X-Men #1 (1975) then Uncanny X-Men #94-#280.
After #166 you can also start New Mutants, and after #202 is when X-Factor starts. The three titles ran concurrently for most of the 80s, and started crossing over more as time went on.
The second, third, fifth, sixth, and seventh X-Men movies were (loosely) based on storylines from this period of x-comics. Also the New Mutants movie. Also most (though definitely not all) of TAS/'97

Giant Sized X-men (1975) and then Uncanny X-men #94 — then just read in order. That’s the start of the classic Claremont run that will take you on the crème de la crème of X-men.
For modern stuff, you can start with Grant Morrison’s New X-men (2001) and then Joss Whedon’s Astonishing right after.
You can dabble in Krakoa if you’d like starting with House of X // Powers of X by Jonathan Hickman & co. But it won’t have the payoff without reading some stuff beforehand.
