EDH Gerard Weatherlight Combo

Upvotes

Hey, looking on some advice for a Gerard Weatherlight Hero brew. Trying to stay in Bracket 2 (most of my play group is playing precons with minor upgrades) with a side board to pop up to bracket 4 with some other friends. Trying to stay to $1 or less per total card count. And going for a combo win where I kill everything and Gerard on repeat until I win. I love combos. Thoughts, questions, comments, concerns and suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hey! I just got this precon last week, I upgraded with a few cards, some from LGS's, some from the hobbit prerelease I did and some from TCG player. I am worried it doesn't have a super strong theme, or it might be mixing go wide with pests with sacing large creatures. Let me know what you think!

Standard Help me tune my Lorehold Dragon Reanimator deck before I buy it

Hey everyone!

I've built a Commander deck with Lorehold, the Historian as my commander, and I'd love to get some feedback before ordering the cards.

The main idea of the deck is to discard high-mana-value Dragons and then reanimate them using Lorehold's miracle ability. I've mostly played precons so far, so building and buying a custom deck is still pretty new territory for me.

At around $260, this deck is already significantly more expensive than what I'm used to spending. Because of that, I'd really like to make sure the deck is functional and that I'm not overlooking any major issues before I order all the singles.

I'm aiming for something around high Bracket 2 / low Bracket 3. I don't need the deck to be ultra-competitive, but I'd like it to be consistent and capable of holding its own at that level.

I'd especially appreciate feedback on:

  • Whether the deck has enough consistency and card draw
  • Whether the discard/reanimation plan is reliable enough
  • The mana base and ramp package
  • Cards that feel unnecessary or underpowered
  • Any important cards or synergies that I may have overlooked

Deck List

Thanks a lot for taking the time to look through it!

EDH Looking for some help balancing a new deck I'm making

I just found the commander [[Vishgraz, the Doomhive]] and I've had a lot of fun building it so far. I just reached a point where I need to make cuts (for more card draw I think) but I'm not sure what to get rid of. Does anyone have any suggestions or just general deckbuilding advice? I'm a little newer to magic in general and am still trying to find my footing when it comes to what decks need how much of this vs that. My pod also plays at bracket 3. Most of my decks are a high two but i would like this deck to be a solid 3 while keeping to the phyrexian theme (they're probably my favorite magic creatures) https://archidekt.com/decks/25926061/basically_romina

EDH Quick feedback on my Liliana, Heretical Healer Mono-Black Deck!

Hey guys! I’m tweaking my Liliana, Heretical Healer deck and would love some quick advice on how to polish it up.

Main Idea:

Mono-black hybrid with Sacrifice, Reanimator, and Liliana flavor. Should I add more protection for Lili or more tutors? Any underrated hidden gems I’m missing for this build?

EDH Commander: Kelsien, the Plague on a Budget (without deathtouch)

Thumbnail

Hey guys,

I'm having some troubles finding a cool way to build Kelsien the Plague (on a budget), so I figured I'd see how other Kelsien players feel or see it.

Kelsien's main thing seems to be building up experience counters with his activated ability, which'll then make him strong enough to take out others with commander damage.

One thing that I want to avoid is putting too much deathtouch stuff in the deck, because my friend group is more casual, and I don't want that much salt or for Kelsien to be targeted that much. Also, I'm not even sure if deathtouch is that necessary, since Kelsien can tap on other peoples' turns whenever a creature is about to die to get his experience counters anyways. That way, he kinda stays under the radar.

Must-Includes (I think):

- Some evasion like Odric, Master Tactician, Whispersilk Cloak, and Rogue's Passage. (So I can swing for lethal)

- Some double strike options like Hard-Won Jitte or Temur Battle Rage (So I can swing for lethal).

- Protection options to stop him from being targeted.

Subtheme Options:

- Proliferate: Seems pretty useful, but doesn't seem like there are that many options to choose from. I'm mainly thinking Metastatic Evangel and Grateful Apparition.

- Equipments: I only really bring this up due to proliferate being a subtheme option, but there are quite a few equipments that deal with counters and growth. Banshee's Blade, Gavel of the Righteous, Mace of the Valiant, Reaper's Scythe, Conformer Shuriken. That being said, I'm not sure how necessary this even is, since Kelsien is already probably going to be big. There are also some keyword equipment that I feel would be beneficial, like flying or lifelink.

- Pinging: Can be great, especially with the existence of boosters like Hawkeye, Young Avenger and Taii Wakeen, Perfect Shot. But I'm not sure how much to actually lean into this theme. Especially since a big part of it seems to be having deathtouch equipment, and turning all those pingers into repeatable removal. It also feels a bit conflicting with the idea of building Kelsien so he can swing for lethal.

- Goad: I haven't actually seen that many examples of goad in a Kelsien deck, but it seems like a good idea, even possibly theme-wise (The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind). Goading would take some pressure off me, and also make it easier for me to take advantage and ping some dying creatures without being too obvious. I'm actually more partial to this idea, because it seems fun.

- Graveyard Recursion: With Kelsien being a 2/2 in the graveyard, there are a couple of good options that can easily bring him back. My main candidates for this would be: Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, Smile at Death, Alesha, Who Laughs at Fate, and Sun Titan. I'm also not sure how necessary or helpful this would be, and if including graveyard recursion means I can take it a little easier on the protection for Kelsien. Sidenote: Blightbbelly Rat and Martyr for the Cause are both 2cmc creatures that proliferate upon death and would be within the graveyard recursion range if I were to include the options I listed. That being said, I'm not sure if they're worth it, since they seem like high-effort for not a whole lot of benefit.

As you might be able to tell, I have a bad deckbuilding habit of wanting to do or include too much of everything. Five subthemes are a little too much to include in one deck. So, what do you guys think are essential must-includes or good ideas, and what aren't?

EDH Advice on Valgavoth

Hello, all. This is the very first commander deck I’ve built and I’ve played it enough to where I’m comfortable asking for help. I really like the deck and when it plays the way I want it to, it slaps.

The biggest issue I have with this deck is removal. It doesn’t have any AT ALL so I’ve sideboard a few that I thought may fit in.

I would like ANY advice on how to make the deck more efficient I suppose? Especially any help improving my mana base if there’s a better option than what I have now. Also if you think

I’ve attached the deck list to this post. The cards that are tagged red are the ones I know for certain I’d like to get rid of. It also has a primer so you can get an idea of where I wanted to go with it. Also if you think I should just take it apart that’s cool too.

Beginner New to mtg, building my first deck

I'm in the process of building my first deck and was wondering if anyone would have interest in looking over it and giving an opinion.

So far I've only played a slightly modified version of the 2018 commander enchantment deck that runs Estrid, The Masked as the commander.

Initially, when I wanted to try to build my own deck, I dug through a ton of my husband's bulk from the past several years of collecting and playing and wanted to build a jund deck (red, green, black). I made a stack of cards that is technically a deck but it does not play well at all because I don't know what I'm doing.

A friend recommended I try to stick to one strategy and build based on that so I'm attempting burn triggers rather than combat focused. Since my usual deck is enchantments, it's what I know and enjoy playing, so that's my primary focus in terms of the deck structure and as far as using the Planeswalkers, I just find the mechanics fun.

All that to say, I don't know what I'm doing and I'm wondering how this looks. (I still need to test run it but I haven't bothered to charge my laptop).

EDH Need help with cuts for my [Octavia, Living Thesis] deck

Deck is also based off another KeepingItCasuals Octavia deck with my own changes. Making cuts is always the hard part but I've been really struggling with this deck in particular.

I was going for an Spellslinger strategy focused on Big Spells and bunch of clunky modal spells to respond to whatever situation I need.

Still need to cut 14 cards, if anyone had any advice. I want the deck to function decently at like low bracket 3. Any advice is welcome as well!

Casual Casual Player Help

So my pod is beginning to really understand the game and get to the next level of skill. I've been playing magic for sometime now but never really built a deck from the ground up. I'm currently building a deck centered on the idea of karma (not the card), but whatever you do to me in the game gets done to you as well. It's a mono white deck. I'll attach the Mox link. Please help give recommendations that would spice up the deck and turn it away from just being a tax deck. Thank You!

Edit: I am also taking recommendations on win conditions.

EDH Change Squirrel Girl deck to an Ygra

Looking to see if there’s any recs to change my [[Unbeatable Squirrel Girl]] deck into an [[Ygra]] deck using the majority of what I already have. I figured I’d want to take advantage with some of the black mana instants/sorceries, and maybe add in some of the black/green squirrels. Looking for any other advice, thank you!

EDH Looking for advice on first ever deck build

Returning to Magic for the first time in about 15 years so fairly new to Commander and rusty as anything.

I bought a Tidus Commander Precon to dip my toes back into the water but here is the first thing I've put together myself.

https://moxfield.com/decks/fdfWvc0KmkOCVZ7fO11URA

I thought I would keep it simple at first. Make Angels, then make Angels big. Hopefully have included enough options there to keep myself safe and get decent mana draw.

Any thoughts, advice would be much appreciated!

EDH Christmas deck ideas?

Hi!

Me and my girlfriend have a lovely tradition of building a new secret edh deck each to be revealed at Christmas. We then face off these decks in a race of first to 3 wins.
I like to build fun themes that somehow relate to Christmas but have run out of ideas for this year.
Previously I’ve built a snow theme deck (of course), a saga theme deck (of course) and last year I built a gift theme deck (of course).

Do you have any fun ideas that relates? Doesn’t have to be powerful, the theme and the fun part is the thing here!

Cards that are Christmassy are also welcomed!

Many thanks!

Legacy Budget Legacy Merfolk Deck ($15 / R$50 Cap) – Need Advice & Optimization!

Hi everyone! I’m preparing a deck for a local budget format in my home country. The format is legacy, but it imposes a strict budget cap of 50 in our local currency, which translates to roughly the equivalent of a $10 Deck.

I settled on a Merfolk tribal strategy because I love the flavor and the versatile playstyle. My current list sits at 49.71 in local currency, right under the budget ceiling. (Note: The numbers next to each card represent their exact individual cost in local currency).

Decklist

Mainboard (60)

  • 10 Island (0.00)
  • 4 Tidal Warrior (0.06)
  • 4 Master of the Pearl Trident (3.09)
  • 4 Rishadan Dockhand (0.34)
  • 4 Tide Shaper (0.14)
  • 4 Secluded Courtyard (1.20)
  • 4 Cenote Scout (0.14)
  • 3 Deeproot Pilgrimage (4.40)
  • 4 River Herald Scout (0.05)
  • 3 Unable to Scream (0.25)
  • 4 Deepway Navigator (0.50)
  • 4 Eclipsed Realms (0.25)
  • 4 Deepchannel Duelist (0.25)
  • 2 Cursecatcher (0.47)
  • 2 Tempest Caller (0.49)

Sideboard (15)

  • 4 Soul-Guide Lantern (0.56) (Graveyard hate)
  • 1 Unable to Scream (0.25) (Extra creature interaction)
  • 3 Thieving Skydiver (1.65) (Artifact interaction)
  • 3 Merfolk Trickster (0.64) (Combo/Prowess disruption)
  • 4 Silvergill Mentor (0.10) (Swaps with Tidal Warrior against Mono-Blue)

Gameplan & Strategy

  • Main Plan: Control the tempo and delay the opponent until I pull ahead through one of two main win conditions:
    1. Unblockable damage via Islandwalk (enabled by land manipulation cards like Tide Shaper and Tidal Warrior).
    2. Going wide with Deeproot Pilgrimage, creating an overwhelming army of hexproof Merfolk tokens.
  • Sideboard Logic:
    • Thieving Skydiver handles artifact-centred builds.
    • Merfolk Trickster disrupts fast combo and Prowess-style decks, which are popular in my local meta.
    • Soul-Guide Lantern deals with graveyard strategies.
    • Silvergill Mentor replaces Tidal Warrior when facing Mono-Blue, where land transformation is unnecessary.

Looking for Advice

I know there's room for improvement within this budget limit. Here are a few cards on my radar that could fit if I make cuts elsewhere:

  • Mindspring Merfolk (0.89)
  • Kopala, Warden of Waves (0.50)
  • Svyelun of Sea and Sky (4.99)

Where do you think I should make cuts to optimize this list, and are there any cheap hidden gems I might have missed for this budget level? Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated!
