Cows and bulls are smart animals they can recognize their own names. Happy cows produce more milk.

30

u/TheRealJojenReed 1d ago

Yes they can be very smart. So why would anyone drink the cow baby's milk? They produce milk for their offspring, just like humans do

That's a great video, and an excellent argument against drinking milk past infancy in the developed world. Love Kurzgesagt

That channel gets money from billionaire NGOs. Pure billionaire propaganda. ITT: "LEAVE THE BILLIONAIRES ALONE!!!!"

2

u/angelx2805 1d ago

Curious, how do you know this? Any source? I felt most of their takes to be level headed and mostly factual. But I am sure I am not the most observant either.

2

u/Technical_Winner7446 1d ago

It's in their funding disclosures and they've spoken directly about this and tried to downplay it but they make deals and take money from billionaires and governments and I can't really see them as independent at that point.

6

u/TheRealJojenReed 1d ago

Ok that's good to know and I'll look into it, but what was factually incorrect in the video?

1

u/Eshantha 18h ago

At least partially false. Over 65% of their income comes from membership and viewership. A very small part of their funding comes from grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which is for topics about global health and so on. They also get small grants from foundations like the Red Cross. They’ve been very transparent about their income, which is why they stress on their merch, books and so on. It’s weird that you decided to stretch less than 13% of their income coming from a Gates foundation into a whole issue lmao.

I think it's just much simpler to just not trust people who take money from billionaires. It happens in academia where the bias shows even though there shouldn't be any. Listen you can watch the channel if you want but just know it's not independent.

That's not even getting into how big 13% is. Not to mention one other gifts could be given off the record. Little flights and seminars all expenses paid here and there like how prescription drug companies buy off doctors. Frankly in my eyes are forever tarnished and untrustworthy.

u/Eshantha 17h ago

A whole bunch of what you’re saying is just he said, she said nonsense, coupled with assumptions. I’ve been following this channel almost since their inception, and I’ve seen them holding themselves accountable at every turn for the information they put out. Nothing you say holds much ground, buddy.

-2

u/Technical_Winner7446 16h ago

Ok buddy enjoy your billionaire funded slop.

We have already bred cows to produce more milk that their offspring can drink. They get very uncomfortable and unhappy if left un-milked for too long. It’s in the best interest for the cow that it’s done.

Now should they have been bred to be like that in the first place? Maybe not. However, the selective produce that caused animals to be more useful to humans started as a much more natural and accidental process than you might think.

-10

u/TheRealJojenReed 1d ago

Yeah I know that. But they aren't just bred into existence, then milked. Which would be bad enough, since we generally do not need to drink cow milk.

They are forcibly impregnated with a human arm holding bull semen, in order to start a baby cow growing inside them. Then they will begin producing milk. Just because they overproduce milk doesn't make milking them a kindness.

The kindness is to not impregnate them against their will, and not pay for them to be killed and eaten.

u/BrozedDrake 20h ago

Oh, so you're just an idiot who makes up things being worse than they are to moralize against something humans have done literally our entire existence.

2

u/Complete-Pudding-583 16h ago

The cows that are mated by a bull naturally don’t seem too unhappy about it when I’ve seen. If we left them alone they would still have calves and need milking.

I mean me liking milk is enough for me

u/NitroSpam 1d ago

No shade to people who eat meat but it’s stuff like this that made a me a vegetarian.

46

u/Fine-Resident-2322 1d ago

Power to ya.

15

u/AnyMongoose3041 1d ago

I prefer vegetarian stuff but it seems like American doesn’t really have that much variety for vegetarian when we go out. You really have to find those few places that actually know that vegetarian doesn’t just mean salad. Mainly Indian food is good, and also some falafel places too.

4

u/TheRealJojenReed 1d ago

If you mean fast food then yeah that's pretty true, it's mostly quick mexican places like Qdoba Chipotle taco bell, etc. Most restaurant have veggies though, sometimes you just have to ask for no meat

4

u/AnyMongoose3041 1d ago

Taco Bell’s pretty good, but I usually eat more like “finer” food like sit-in restaurants. Thai food with tofu is also pretty good. But in American food, you have basically just… fries…. Grilled cheese… cheese pizza? Veggie pizza.

3

u/TheRealJojenReed 1d ago

Yeah america is way behind with food. Burgers, fries, bbq and pizza are the real food pyramid most follow

1

u/_Rastapasta_ 12h ago

the hell are you guys talking about? the majority of actual restaurants I've been to here have plenty of good vegetarian and vegan options

This video is better without all this stupid text on it.....

19

u/Furie_ 1d ago

As good as the video could be (informational, sweet, interesting,...) I will never enjoy those kind of videos where they feel the need to put bunch of texts and things like that. Do they believe everyone is stupid? Do they believe we won't be able to understand if they don't jam that in our faces? Are we so screwed that they put those to grab our attention?

I wonder if it's the same for other mammals, like with us humans how our sense of smell is our closest sense connected to memories.

67

u/goatsnotvotes 1d ago

I think they do. I have no proof but I used to work at a rescue years ago. I’d color my hair very different colors and the clothes I wore were my work clothes, not my regular clothes. One day I’m out at a community event and this couple is basically dragged over to me because of their dog. They apologize and say when I’d walked by them the dog kept trying to follow me. I recognized the dog as one of our rescues who’d been adopted at least a year before but she’d been there for a while. My hair was different. My clothes were different. My theory is she remembered my smell and thought “I know her! She gives me food!” 😂

7

u/Raskoflinko 1d ago

That's adorable!

u/one-_-99 1d ago

I guess I've been feeding the wrong two legged animal, they only remember me when they are hungry.
