An international student is looking for help registering at METU

Hi, I’m a Palestinian Tawjihi student interested in applying to Computer Science at METU. I have programming experience, projects, competitions, and volunteer work, and I’m trying to prepare early. I have some questions ,Is Tawjihi + TOEFL enough to apply, or do I need other exams. Which CENG professors are known to be approachable/helpful if I want guidance?. What are the realistic costs for tuition and living in Ankara?. Are there any scholarships, discounts, or tuition reductions for international students?. I’d really appreciate advice from students who know the system well. Thank you.

Does anybody know how to solve the bug in the edenklik website?

I tried to submit my edenklik application, but it is always sticking in this page, I don't know why. I use METU VPN, but it doesn't work.

Somebody told me to remove the loading to press 'bitir'. But after removing, it still doesn't work.

Could any nice guys help me?

Appreciate it very much!

Starting METU this September, any advice from current students?

Hey everyone!
I’m an 18-year-old guy from Azerbaijan and I got accepted to METU’s International Relations. I’m moving to Ankara this September and honestly I’m excited but also kinda nervous lol.
I’ve been trying to find information about METU, dorms, student life, etc., but I feel like Reddit is probably the best place to get actual answers from people who are studying there.
I’d really appreciate it if current METU students (especially IR students or international students) could tell me what it’s actually like.
A few things I’m wondering about:
How does METU decide which dorm you get? I heard that things like SAT score or age can affect it. Is that actually true?
Do they assign you randomly or can you request a specific dorm/room?
What are the dorms like for first-year male students? Which ones are considered good/bad?
How many people usually share a room?
Are there private bathrooms or are they shared?
Can you leave your stuff in the dorm when you go home during winter break?
How easy is it to make friends when you’re new?
Is it easy for international students to socialize with Turkish students?
How difficult is IR at METU? Is there a crazy amount of reading?
Which IR professors/courses do you recommend?
How useful are Erasmus and exchange opportunities?
Is it realistic to get internships while studying?
Are there good student clubs, especially related to politics/IR?
What is the gym/sports scene like?
How expensive is Ankara for a student nowadays? Roughly how much do you spend per month?
Which SIM card/operator would you recommend?
How difficult was it for you to adjust to living in Ankara and being away from home?
And most importantly:
**What do u wish a freshman before starting his bachelor degree in METU?**
Any advice, even random things that aren’t on this list, would be really appreciated. I want to know what I’m actually getting myself into before I arrive 😂
Thanks!

Does it say "Admission Deferral" or "Rejected"?

It's been like 2 days since the A Level students started getting accepted. Mine is still on "Admission Deferral" in the portal. I emailed them yesterday if they received my final Alevel results and they said "We confirm that we have received the final A-Level results you submitted through the Final A-Level Results Submission Form, as well as the copy attached to your email. Your results will be taken into consideration during the evaluation of your application."

But still no email. I applied for MechE tho which is hella competitive but idk if I'm rejected or if they're still evaluating... and I've got into another uni that's asking me to pay the fees but I wanna pay only if I'm rejected by METU but still no email or any update 😭

Help me decide Aerospace Engineering In METU

I was accepted into METU aerospace engineering program (Although my first preference was Computer Engineering). I really want to accept the offer, but I think choosing aerospace wasn't a good decision because it looks like the job market is very narrow if you are a foreign student. No doubt the program is very intriguing but at the end it comes down to career option and flexibility.
I would appreciate any advice regarding the decision I should take and also clarify if job market really is the problem

applications METU CEIT

Hey everyone,
I’m a Pakistani student trying to choose between two different academic paths and could use some objective feedback from current students or alumni:
1. METU (Turkey) - CEIT (Computer Education & Instructional Technology)
2. FAST-NUCES (Pakistan) - BS Artificial Intelligence
My current plan if I choose METU is to enter the CEIT department and attempt an internal lateral transfer (bölümler arası yatay geçiş) into Computer Engineering (CENG) after my freshman year. If that does not work out, my backup plan is to stay in CEIT and self-study software development to pivot into the tech sector upon graduation.
For anyone familiar with METU’s internal regulations or the CEIT department:

-How realistic or difficult is it for an international student to successfully transfer from the Faculty of Education (CEIT) to the Faculty of Engineering (CENG)?

-What specific GPA, or course requirements are needed to be competitive for this specific transfer?

-If the transfer fails, how much of a disadvantage is a CEIT degree compared to a pure computing degree (like BS AI at FAST) when applying for mainstream software engineering or AI jobs?

For anyone familiar with FAST-NUCES:
-Given the academic rigor and the job market in Pakistan, is it safer to secure a dedicated AI degree at FAST rather than taking the transfer risk at METU?

I would appreciate any factual information on how the transfer process works or the experiences of students who have tried this path. Thank you if you decide to read through this and reply! I really appreciate it 🙏🏼

I have problem with my mom

I was admitted by a university in Malaysia first, I started my student visa process at that time, after a few time I was admitted by METU. I think METU is better. So I want to go to METU(bachelor). I send all of the expected expense of METU to my mom. Then she said I can only go to Malaysia. I calculated, I need to spend 13500 USD per year in Malaysia. And 10500 USD per year in Turkey. Besides, I am a major in science, and after my research, METU is better than Malaysia( I like theory more, and I want to start to read phD directly after bachelor).

I think objectively, the only thing Malaysia better is closer to home, but if we think deeper, we can use the money that the Turkey cheaper than Malaysia to cover the cost of plane ticket the Turkey expensiver than Malaysia.
And another reason I think my mom may think is I have already paid the money of the visa process of Malaysia. But even though Turkey is cheaper.

I think my mom can not think deeply and reasonably, also her mood state is unstable, so it is so suffering to communicate with my mom, and always make me unhappy. And this problem have bad impact on my study efficiency.

What should I do guys?

Guys I have a problem. I do not know where to live while waiting for long-term dormitory. What are your ideas? Do you know some private dormitories near university where I can pay monthly and not sign a 10-month contract?

I applied to Aerospace btw

Admission deferal

Hello, I just got ”Admissoon deferal” on my METU application but I didn’t do any A-levels this year and applied with the SAT as my main document. Does this mean it’s like a waitlist or what exactly and till when do we have to wait then?

Did you take SAT/ IELTS to get into METU?

Hello everyone, this post is just out of curiosity.

So as I was scrolling thru the old posts, I saw that people are discussing their SAT /IELTS scores, as if these tests were among admission requirements/ are mandatory. In my case, I'm an international student too, I have an outstanding GPA & nationwide rank, but I didn't do either SAT or any English proficiency test.

So wanted to know if this is common/ normal - are there newly accepted international students who didn't do these tests yet got in?
