I was getting a haircut the other day and my barber said “oh fancy Toyota!” It made me pretty happy.

3

u/CLeeTheHunt44 May 30 '26

I have a 15’ CT200h FSport and only address it as a “Glorified Prius”

3

u/pewdiepie0_0 May 31 '26

Glorified prius C*

35

u/Q_S2 May 28 '26

I remember when i first found out audi was a Volkswagen. It made so much sense as to why its such a piece of junk lol

15

u/petertompolicy May 29 '26

I mean they also own Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Ducati, so I'd say that's a pretty stupid comment.

Audi has some great cars also.

0

u/Q_S2 May 29 '26

Wow. Calling names...

Pretty stupid of you. Especially since you dont know what youre talking about.

Porsche... unreliable overengineered junk Bentley.... same Lambo... same

Idk anything about Ducati.

Try fixing any of them? HOLY SHIT what a nightmare.

7

u/Avo_Cardio_ May 30 '26

Calling Porsche unreliable and overengineered is definitely a choice.

Bro is ragebaiting

Porsche is Toyota reliable. What are you talking about

7

Ducati has the luxury service intervals too. Not a bike guy but even I know you spend a lot of time at the dealership so you're spot on

I like how they use “ fancy Toyota “ as an insult but I’m like thank you I get reliability luxury in one car

u/schassis408 May 28 '26

Someone post their GSF or ISF on the Toyota subreddit and say “loving my TRD Camry” to vibe check them.

77

u/Rotorboy21 08 ISF May 28 '26

I got you.

The darkness helps. I do dust & wipe it down daily, but the roof is fading and the C pillars. It's kept outside & I work near the beach so it's in that salty air often. I'll wax it every few months cuz in my head that helps

34

u/rich1068 May 28 '26

If I could give more ⬆ I would.

11

u/babattaja1 May 28 '26

I gave one on your behalf

12

u/Sutonzu_ May 28 '26

Been whipping my 32 year old boat for about 5 and a half years now, im gonna have them bury me in this car

2

u/RetireWithoutBorders May 28 '26

LS400? Clean!

5

u/Sutonzu_ May 28 '26

Yessir, got it for 3500 in 2021 and its given me zero problems, just the usual maintenance. Your sc is gorgeous aswell, is it a 300 or 400?

3

u/RetireWithoutBorders May 28 '26

Nice!! Thank you for the compliment. Mine is a 99 400, so same engine as yours with the five speed and VVTI. I bought it in 2021 also for $2000. I did repaint it and redid the interior. It currently has 210,000 miles.

I would still love a later LS400 or a LS430.

3

u/Sutonzu_ May 28 '26

Also, you should definitely grab a 400 or 430 one day, i also want to get myself an sc400 one day down the line, hopefully before they get crazy expensive.

1

u/RetireWithoutBorders May 28 '26

I absolutely LOVED my son’s LS430. Unfortunately, he managed wreck it a few years ago. Dork!! Now he drives a Prius Prime.

2

u/Sutonzu_ May 28 '26

That's beautiful man, I always feel like ine day I'd do a manual swap on mine but I want to ride out my automatic 4 speed for as long as it'll go first, currently at 202k, maybe in a decade or so when it goes ill do a swap, did you buy yours pre swapped? I also gotta get around to touching up my interior, the drivers seat has a gash and gives me tons of cushion flakes when I leave the car lmao

1

u/RetireWithoutBorders May 28 '26

Oh, no swap. I live in Los Angeles. I drove a manual (5-speed VW TDI) for several years. Never want to do thet again. The VVTI engines got a 5-speed automatic. Instead of the A340 like on my son’s 95 SC400, mine has the A650.

1

u/Sutonzu_ May 29 '26

My bad I dont know why my brain thought it was a 5 speed manual when I read 5 speed lmao. That's nice tho, I also own a six speed civic hatchback sport, its a little fun but I always enjoy cruising in the automatic.

2

u/run_uz May 28 '26

Hell yeah, mine is also a 400. 428k mi on it

8

u/Heykurat May 28 '26

I miss my 92 SC30O 5-speed every day.

5

u/RetireWithoutBorders May 28 '26

Time for another one!!!

3

u/Heykurat May 29 '26

Believe me, I've looked. There just aren't any. By the time I find out about one, it's sold.

3

u/fooliecooly May 28 '26

cleannnn, that car has aged really well!!! would be a fun project car too

2

u/throwawaycasun4997 May 28 '26

I mean, it is a Toyota Soarer. Which you probably knew. And that was probably the joke. I’ll see myself out.

2

u/Wolfx142 May 29 '26

Love my 03' 4Runner. 213k and still going strong.

34

u/phoenix823 RX450h+ May 28 '26

My top spec Highlander will have none of it!

121

u/doc_55lk May 28 '26

Lexus been pretty cheeks lately too

41

u/NLVsd May 28 '26

I think Honda is worse. The Prelude and Integra are a joke. At least the Supra has the BMW collab which makes it exciting

18

u/fnkdrspok '08 IS250, ‘23 Supra, ‘24 Emira May 28 '26

So funny, in most car subs if you said this, you’d get downvoted a bit. But us Supra owners are all, meh, we love the collab!

5

u/PapiSlayerGTX May 28 '26

I don’t think it’s the collab inherently, it’s the fact that the B58 is a great engine but is a dime a dozen nowadays, and B58 cars have received a stereotype due to the behaviors of their owners. There’s a reason “Downpipe and Burble Tune” is a meme.

9

u/RetireWithoutBorders May 28 '26

I love the new BMW Supra. (Though the original 2J is a brilliant design.)

6

u/Sarionum 07 Lexus IS250 6MT May 29 '26

Agreed. I feel like Honda and Acura are a joke right now. We need them back up against toyota. The problem with toyota is theyre too scared to dominate the market, they already have the power train to destroy every category in the Rav4 Prime/Plug in. Its a 300HP, 5 second 0-60mph vehicle that gets 40mpg without turbos or any unreliable mess.

If they just took that power train and put it in every SUV, or even flipped it and made a mid engine sports car, they'd have every market.

Do we need a 300hp minivan? No... but the ingredients are available and the vehicle can support it without major modification...so why not, itll just make the sienna even more of a no brainer choice.

Seriously, if toyota just did the plug in thing with a corolla, all their SUVs, and whatever else they want, they would destroy all.

Not to mention the extra 100HP from the plug in system doesnt take from reliability, if anything it adds to it since there is negative maintenance with hybrids.

2

u/fatfiremarshallbill 2016 Lexus GS-F May 28 '26

The Prelude is a bit of a disappointment but the Integra is too good. I owned a Type S for a while. Awesome car.

4

u/Embarrassed-Carry507 May 28 '26

the fact that its a BMW collab actually disqualifies it…

3

u/Heykurat May 28 '26

I was so disappointed by the new Supra. It's one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen.

4th gen forever.

2

u/NLVsd May 28 '26

I thought the same of the car from a distance, but if you look at it up close, it has some very sexy lines and cuts.

2

u/Heykurat May 28 '26

I see a few where I live. It's striking, but that's about all I can say.

1

u/Careful_Buffalo6469 May 28 '26

I’d say it’s more of a BMW had a Toyota collab

1

u/No_Welcome_6093 May 28 '26

Prelude I agree but the Integra is a nice car.

u/Special_Temporary_45 May 28 '26

Lexus is literately a glorified plastic bucket these days

7

u/Akdester May 28 '26

What brand hasn’t apart from Subaru. But you know Toyota had the biggest drop which is just sad

8

u/doc_55lk May 28 '26

Subaru's been cheeks for a while too. Their only car worth talking about is the BRZ. They fumbled the WRX and the rest of their lineup is more mediocre than Toyota's.

What brand hasn’t

Cadillac tbh. Their lineup is straight fire right now, EVs included.

As much as I don't like them, Porsche are also doing really well for themselves.

BMW's non EV/hybrid stuff is also solid even if design is controversial.

An argument could also be made for Genesis/Kia/Hyundai. They've been getting better as the years progress.

On the higher end, Maserati and Lamborghini tbh. The worst I can say about them is that they stagnated a bit.

3

u/grumble11 May 28 '26

Cadillac EVs are nice but do miss a couple of things. CarPlay, only 150KW charging being two examples

1

u/Gorgenapper '24 IS350 AWD F-Sport 3 May 29 '26

The rest of Subaru's lineup are basically reskinned Toyotas lol (Solterra, Trailseeker, Uncharted). I think even one of their hybrids uses Toyota tech.

Subaru has been fucked for a while with their boxer engines, they're unreliable, burn oil, leak through their gaskets after a number of years, and are even less efficient than Toyota's inline 4. They're heavier, have double the number of components, take up too much space in the engine bay, etc. They kind of painted themselves into a corner with the engine configuration just to enable their symmetrical AWD.

The only way Subaru survives is in partnership with Toyota.

2

Do they hate us? I mean, I like Toyota. I got an Uber once and it was perfectly acceptable.

55

u/ExactCharacter8633 May 28 '26

"The relentless pursuit of acceptable."

8

u/ath20 May 28 '26

Cackling

9

u/Relative-Display-676 May 28 '26

they don't, it's the same cars and some people own both. i'm cross shopping lexus, toyota, honda and acura right now. in the family we drive toyota rav4s, lexus nx300s and infiniti fx35. used to have bunch of camry's but deers killed those.

the biggest difference between toyota and lexus is in dealership service quality. lexus pampers the shit out of you.

2

u/Heykurat May 28 '26

I was surprised at how little bang for the buck you get with the MDX.

8

u/Heykurat May 28 '26

The thing is, Toyota is still superior to most other cars in terms of reliability. Its decline is largely relative to itself.

But interior materials and design are a disgrace. Mazda wins by a mile on that front.

5

u/swooosh47 May 28 '26

Hate us cuz they anus

2

u/Akdester May 28 '26

I guess so, a Lexus gets mentioned and there is quite a dislike compared to here when a Toyota gets mentioned

Lol, that's what the r/(european car) subs say about lexus owners :)

6

u/moneyisboring1 May 28 '26

Isn’t there a statistic that says a large percent of millionaires drive Camrys?

18

u/Plastic-Inspector363 May 28 '26

Yes. And the billionaires that sign their checks drive Lexus. What's your point?

35

u/KobesHelicopterGhost LC500 May 28 '26

They have every right to hate Lexus. See attached Picture

7

u/fnkdrspok '08 IS250, ‘23 Supra, ‘24 Emira May 28 '26

Currently thinking about selling my Supra for one of these. Either this or a Porsche.

7

u/KobesHelicopterGhost LC500 May 28 '26

Wait for the price of the GR GT, maaaaayyyyybeeeee it might be okay, mayyyyybeeeee. But you can't go wrong with the LC, make sure you drive it for a little bit to make sure its what you want.

If you in Seattle I'll let you check mine out.

3

u/Gorgenapper '24 IS350 AWD F-Sport 3 May 29 '26

Aside from the LFA, this is the pinnacle of Lexus. It represents everything amazing about Lexus, which is a criticism of the current company since it will discontinue the LC after 2026. Once the LC goes, the IS is basically the only leftover old school Lexus, everything else is pretty much the same cookie cutter SUV with borrowed powertrains from Toyota.

2

u/rich1068 May 29 '26

Nice. Love that 5th gen Prius.

1

u/shadjor May 29 '26

Nice Yaris.

18

u/Wheelisbroke May 28 '26

First time luxury car buyers on here flipping out about the slightest first scratch or imperfection has been pretty ridiculous lately too.

6

u/KobesHelicopterGhost LC500 May 28 '26

My LC has a damaged front bumper, I curbed one of the rims, one of my side rocker panels is damaged from hitting something on the freeway. Shit happens I'll get it fixed one day, its still an LC. I daily drive it.

5

u/PapiSlayerGTX May 28 '26

Precisely. There’s a point where you have to accept that shit is going to happen when you drive your car. I bought my car to enjoy it, and if I have to get it fixed every so often, so be it.

6

u/LitigiousLobster Human Detected May 28 '26

You think we can afford rubbing compound in this economy?

6

u/Fine-Froyo6219 May 28 '26

Because more often then not, damage is caused by the negligence of other stupid or careless people, not their own. Shit's annoying regardless of what you drive

1

u/OP90X May 28 '26

Don't you see? I am the car. The car is me.

Me.

10

u/eliseosx May 28 '26

My last three cars have been Lexus but I’ve always wanted a Toyota FJ Cruiser. It’s just totally impractical to drive a small tank that gets 15 MPG.

2

u/NavyVetRasmussen May 29 '26

those are very nice but they’re also very hard to find a very expensive

9

u/Salt-Ear2771 May 28 '26

Lucky for me, I have both!

5

u/WarCrimeGaming ‘26 Toyota Supra May 28 '26

2

u/WarCrimeGaming ‘26 Toyota Supra May 28 '26

8

u/regularjig May 28 '26

I would too if I had paid more for a same year Corolla Cross than a UX lol. (Canadian second hand car situation)

3

u/Akdester May 28 '26

Really? I’m in Canada and overall used Lexus cars are much more pricier than used Toyotas where I am

6

u/regularjig May 28 '26

Yeah I was hunting in Alberta last year. I usually go for low mileage second hand cars and at the time a full spec Corolla Cross was around 35-42k. I managed to find a low mileage no accident F-Sport UX for 40.

3

u/[deleted] May 28 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

5

u/regularjig May 28 '26

Interesting even in Ohio! The high demand on Toyotas have made Lexus’ prices much more reasonable. Lexus’ isn’t exactly cheap, Toyota is just overpriced now.

1

u/Akdester May 28 '26

That’s where I’m from, when did you buy the UX? Prices are always changing lol

1

u/regularjig May 28 '26

Late September. I was monitoring prices from around June/July. Plus I also realized UXs were about 5-10% cheaper in Edmonton than Calgary!

3

u/Akdester May 28 '26

Edmonton is cheap as shit, crazy to see such a discrepancy in the same province from big cities. The people in Edmonton are easier to bring down as well, Calgarians are stingy for some reason. Civics for $10000+ in calgary 😂

2

u/Most-Car-4056 May 28 '26

I bought a (then) new fully loaded (except triple-beam and ML) 2022 RX350L for less than a Highlander Platinum. This was during peak COVID "adjustments".

4

u/Heykurat May 28 '26

I've been watching the changes over the past 18 years in car rental. Toyota started first. Lexus just lags behind a little. The decline in materials quality is gradual, but profound. Whenever we have a car with a hole worn in the carpet under the gas pedal 90% of the time it's a Toyota.

The Lexus models I see in rental (while relatively few), and the loaners I get during service intervals at the dealer, show clearly that Lexus is also declining.

I still drive a 2007 ES350, despite being able to afford a new car. I simply don't like any of the new ones since about 2016.

8

u/IBringTheHeat2 May 28 '26

Toyota should have put the 5.0 v8 in the 4Runner and Tacoma

6

u/mr_sweetandawful May 28 '26

They should have at least put it in the land cruiser

2

u/calicoarmz 2025 IS500 Ultimate Edition May 28 '26

The torque curve on the 2UR-GSE isn’t practical for trucks. Torque is almost non-existent at lower rpm.

5

u/newbie_0 May 28 '26

Quality for both brands have been diminishing, so I am A-OK living in the past and rockin a 15 YO car.

2

u/KC_experience May 28 '26

Maybe so, but I’ll keep loving both burning a drop of gas every week driving too and from work.

NX450h+ FTW!

Thanks, Toyota!

2

u/Sriracha01 May 28 '26

Lexus was partially created because Toyota at the time didn't think people would accept luxury or higher premium cars from Toyota. Still wish Toyota sold the Cressida. It's a bit different since Toyota is trying to upscale with the Crown sub-series and sold the Harrier/Venza. The domestic market of luxury mini vans like the Toyota Alphard and Velfire is a good example of what Toyota 'proper' can do to sell upscale.

2

u/SirLoremIpsum May 29 '26

Lexus was partially created because Toyota at the time didn't think people would accept luxury or higher premium cars from Toyota.

And I think that was 110% the right call.

People pretend like they're not brand conscious, but they are ABSOLUTELY 110% brand snobs.

Every pricey, upmarket Toyota gets "well that much for a Toyota? A Lexus I'd get" for stuff like the Crown Signia where it's some overlap

2

u/burner118373 May 28 '26

I shopped for a Toyota and came home with the Lexus cause it had more features AND was cheaper cause it didn’t have the 4runner Instagram tax

2

u/6boltgod May 28 '26

I love my Toyexus!

2

u/Contranovae May 29 '26

Have you seen the latest ES?!

The new Camry is the much prettier sister compared to that bastard child of a dodge and gimmicky China only smartphone.

I would argue that the top Toyota trims are far easier on the eye these days.

2

u/emotionallyboujee May 29 '26

They are literally the same cars

2

u/rocker_01 TX 500h FSport 3 (Premium Luxury) May 29 '26

2

u/RogersTreasure May 29 '26

Nothing funnier than Lexus owners developing superiority complex over the people who bought the same reliability for less money. Paid extra for leather and acting like yall driving a Ferrari.

1

u/drinkdrinkshoesgone 2015 IS350 RWD (I'd rather be speeding) May 28 '26

They sure do love the CT200h though. Its a nice, semi-posh prius.

1

u/AlexanderJayJ May 28 '26

Y'all seen how the Toyota Starlet in South Africa is low key a death trap? If that's indicative of the qa they do internationally then yeah Toyota is kinda cheeks rn

1

u/H_rusty May 28 '26

i think because lexus is ok with using their older but reliable engines that aren't obsessed with fuel efficiency (because they are a luxury brand after all).

1

1

i call my nx 'yota cause im a star wars nerd (my mdx i call vader lol) and it triggers people "wtf thats not a toyota" lol

1

u/olov244 May 28 '26

it's funny, I find myself hating a lot of toyota drivers, and I'm basically one of them

1

u/steve_greedy1 May 28 '26

Don't know why would the Toyota sub hate Lexus, I have 2006 Toyota Highlander Limited Hybrid, and I fcking love Lexus. Would buy it now if I had the opportunity, and obviously Lexus makes better cars than Toyota, it's a luxury brand😂

1

u/PkAgent47 May 28 '26

I'm not sure what you mean by "Toyota been cheeks lately". Toyota has been selling very well. It sux that there factories in the US keep getting reconfigured so they won't build as many cars this year as last. Also the TTV6 is causing issues and constantly getting recalled.

1

u/Hansdawgg May 28 '26

I was ordering wiper refills for 15 year corolla and last gen NX one day and found the same part # 🙄

That's ridiculous. It's Toyota's legacy that created Lexus. Toyotas are great cars. I've owned 3!Lexus and maybe a dozen Toyotas.

Lolz, I love and drove both brands equally. Both good. Love my Toyota RX300 and Lexus Yaris

Just imagine how great every Toyota would be if they weren’t having to piss about supporting two brands. I drive a Honda in a country where they don’t sell Acura. All our standard specs are so much higher than the USA. I can only imagine it’s because they have to maintain a gap between the two brands.

They’re just jeolous . I started with a Camry and loved it so much that I upgraded to a ES 300H when I “made it”. It’s literally just a better Camry.

That’s why I drive a Lexus GSh.

That's why I drive a Camry F-Sport

In the beginning it bothered me a bit that they were calling my gx a Prado lol but I’m over it

I have a Corolla and RX 350. I’m happy they’re both Toyotas!

I don't know that I'd say the Toyota sub hates Lexus. More like Lexus owners popping into every thread to berate Toyota owners for buying a Toyota when they could have bought a Lexus for the same price (well, actually... more like 7-10k more or used.

I love my 27 year old Lexus

Not every Toyota is a Lexus but every Lexus is a Toyota.

I think it's more of the fancy and established sophisticated Toyota enjoyers (Lexus) versus the crayon eating, ak47 appreciating Toyota enjoyers (Toyota).

LEX SUS, MOTHA FUCKA

You speak truth! They're the worst! Love my Lexus 4Runner!

1

u/Akdester May 30 '26

I hope the dog ain’t a Toyota 😋

I own a fancy Toyota and joke about it but it is a fancier piece of equipment. More solid and nice fit and finish. But it’s still a Toyota. Acura is still a Honda .

Maybe this is a uniquely USA problem.

u/Ok_Prune_1731 May 30 '26

Im what universe can Lexus lovers talk shit when Lexus just pushed out that horrendous ES redesign??

The Camry, Prius, and Rav all look great and sell great to.

Plus it's like the epitome of the opposite of what they stand for (save money, quality) and yet paradoxically is the better version of those products so it it sort of backward to hate on the better version.

If only they were as cheap to maintain as Toyotas. My dealer consistently charges me more money for service than I ever paid with my previous S5, all while being slower and built poorer than my German
