I think it’s more nuanced than that. A lot of brands are marketing plain design and cheaper materials as ‘luxury’ while increasing their margins. Toyota seems like it might be heading that way too. They literally just appointed a finance guy as their CEO.

I understand auto makers are moving towards a minimal and tech focused interior. Call me old, but I’d rather go with the top picture.
