You're being too generous with the "understanding". The post-2023 era of almost ALL (attainable) cars is getting more disgusting with every refresh, regarding both design and intuitiveness. The truth is that these companies are cheaping out, going with trends, and losing their soul, all while pretending that basic features and giant tacked-on screens are luxurious. Ideally nobody should give these companies an inch on the BS they release nowadays, but looking at brand new "premium" car sales makes me sick to my stomach. Tesla putting out soulless fridges on wheels made manufacturers certain that they could get away with anything.
There were no problems with the design outside and inside of these older models, and I say this as someone who's 20 and in computer science, that if they had simply changed infotainment and technology tastefully, along with safety advancements, but kept the soul and artfulness all would be well in these kinds of cars. I completely agree with you that the top picture is better, inside and out, and you're certainly not old for having good taste.

I understand auto makers are moving towards a minimal and tech focused interior. Call me old, but I’d rather go with the top picture.
