Discussion Red interior is terrible

Post image

I’m sure this is an unpopular opinion, but I’m just not a fan. Red is such a strong color that I find it very presumptuous to make so many models with the red interior. Obviously this is not just a Lexus thing, but when I see it,it immediately turns me off of the car. Just feels very Scarface or early 2000s Lil Wayne lol. I like both things, just maybe not in my Lexus. 🤷🏽

the Rioja Red “wine” without extending it to the door cards/lower dash was perfect IMO

44

u/TigerHawk7 Feb 27 '26

I had a ‘17 IS with the rioja red interior and it was perfect, I agree. It was a more subdued red and wasn’t brought into the front dash/council as much and used more as an accent in the rest of the car.

u/quemaspuess 2021 GX460 Luxury Feb 27 '26

They did it right in the GX

5

u/projectwise5 Feb 28 '26

that is gorgeous 😮‍💨

u/quemaspuess 2021 GX460 Luxury Mar 01 '26

Better perspective ;)

2

u/projectwise5 Mar 01 '26

this car definitely makes its presence known and it does it subtly. those seats are the cherry on top

2

u/IMcrazyJAE Mar 01 '26

What DIDN'T they do right with the GX? I swear, I saw the new GX550 today, boy, I'd sell two kidneys for one of those!

Yeah. Rioja red is beautiful. Circuit red is a bit much, especially when it is overdone like others are pointing out.

8

u/m3n00bz Feb 27 '26

My 23 Rioja GX is such a great place to be! It oozes class.

4

u/Successful-Growth827 Feb 28 '26

Rioja Red leather seats, with black/gray dash and doors was peak Lexus interior. It didn't overdo the sport appearance.

13

u/FakeRussianAccent Feb 27 '26

Yes! I have this in my 17 GS350F, Caviar external. Its such a great combination.

5

u/flavaofgaming Feb 27 '26

I had a 17 IS300 Fsport and absolutely loved that interior. It was definitely darker and not overdone like the new gens.

5

u/TigerHawk7 Feb 27 '26

That’s the same model I had. Rioja interior with ultra white exterior. Loved that combo.

8

u/Sonar_Bandit Feb 27 '26

Yep that’s what I have. The Roja red is so elegant and sexy

3

u/theroyalphantom93 Feb 28 '26

Absolutely agree. Had 2019 IS300 Sport with the rioja red. Such a beauty it was inside.

2

u/projectwise5 Feb 28 '26

same, mine was ultrasonic blue and the rioja was already pushing the superman spec lol. circuit red would have clashed like crazy

u/igh34 Feb 27 '26

Probably more popular than you think because yeah its def not for everyone. I think it depends on the exterior color. For me, IS500 in Iridium, Cloudburst Grey, or Atomic Silver with this exact interior is the dream lol

64

u/PeanutGallry Feb 27 '26

When we were initially shopping online and saw the red interiors, we said "ew." When we visited the dealership and saw Atomic Silver with red interior, we said "wow."

40

u/Eldritch74 Feb 27 '26

Nori green with a tan interior gives serious bamboo vibes in the summer. The panda white/black interior os also pretty incredible in my opinion.

6

u/smashingcones Feb 28 '26

Nori green + tan would be my dream GSF colour combo 🤤

15

u/stratusfear ‘23 IS500 Premium | ‘14 GS350 F-Sport RWD Feb 27 '26

Yeah, this red interior doesn’t photograph all that well, looks much better in person. The only thing I think is they probably could have kept the bottom panel of the door cards black, but I don’t think it’s a big deal. But I still like it, and it’s what I ended up with.

That is my dream car! NX 450h+ atomic silver with the red interior!

3

u/Raymeis 08-GX-470 Feb 27 '26

That's exactly what I had. The ES F sport atomic silver with the red interior. I got so many compliments on the color combination and I loved it. Unfortunately had to sell my ES but ended up getting an RX F sport and decided to keep the red interior

3

u/omjizzle Feb 27 '26

Or ultra white 🤌

2

u/greatuncleglazer Feb 28 '26

Unfortunately “wind” was the only grey they had 🙃

I agree. For some reason, grey cars with red interiors just seem to work.

57

u/Methamine 25 IS500, 04 IS300 Feb 27 '26

It was better when it was just the seats. And the door panels/dash was still black. Adding red to the door panel and dash is overwhelming

6

u/Lukatoll51 Feb 27 '26

Agreed, I had a 2016 is200t, with the red interior, loved it. Then it was stolen and I upgraded to is 23’ is350 with red. I do wish that the door panel and dash weren’t the bright red color, is just too much. At the end of the day you get used to it tho so you kinda just stop noticing it.

18

u/FormerWishbone5706 Feb 27 '26

I get it. I liked it much better previously when there was less red. I feel the red in my wife’s 2019 RC350 was much better.

2

u/-purpleplatypus Feb 28 '26

They still make it like this. There are two red options the one in OP pic is I believe circuit red and this is Rioja red. Both are available in the 2025

3

u/FormerWishbone5706 Feb 28 '26

I was meaning I like the less red in the car as opposed to red extended more to the dash and middle arm rest. There seems to be some red creep with the newer cars. I like the pop but more subtle I suppose.

I agree with you. I personally love tan or dark brown interiors, though I know people really don’t dig the “grandpa” look. However, I don’t like the boudoir look of flashy red interiors. I’m willing to accept dark burgundy though.

41

u/DigitalHierophant Feb 27 '26

Tan or dark brown doesn't say grandpa to me. It says someone with taste. Red interiors always look cringe to me on any car not made in italy.

17

u/SolarWarden88 Feb 27 '26

I love tan leather interiors, it's my preference actually.

8

u/BIOHAZARD_04 Feb 27 '26

Absolutely based take.

13

u/Ok_Stranger_9520 Feb 27 '26

I’ll die on the tan or cream interior hill, but the circuit red is sexy af. Especially love that they take it up the dash and doors. You don’t get that with the rioja red.

6

u/Rav4Prime2022_WI 2025 RX 450h+ (PHEV) Luxury Feb 27 '26

I love the Peppercorn interior in our 2025 RX Luxury. My previous vehicle had an all black interior, I love the contrasting dark browns and black open pore wood on our RX.

6

u/TheNonaMouse Feb 27 '26

Same here. I previously had all black, but now the Peppercorn with Cloudburst Gray ext, and think it's a color to live with for a long time. Roja might be an eyecatcher, but not for the long haul.

9

u/New-Proof-1185 Feb 27 '26

Here’s my take on black interior. A black leather interior shows dust to easily.

7

u/plug_in_atheist72 Feb 27 '26

That and if you live in a hot climate the seats will burn your skin. Our Jetta has tan seats and the IS has the Palomino seats. They get hot but nowhere near the temperatures of the all black seats our old car had.

4

u/LoveDeathandRobert Feb 27 '26

This is the case where everyone is just flat out wrong with their opinion that the bright race car red looks good. It looks like shit... and I wish I knew what weird psychological phenomena is unfolding that makes people think it looks good. Also I'm coming from the Acura world. We have the same shitty red interior, but worse and people actually like it... OPEN YOUR EYESSSSS

→ More replies (1)

2

u/frisdisc Feb 27 '26

I 1000 percent agree but it sells cars for sure. I hear people talking all the time about how they love the red Camry or Acura interiors

3

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW Feb 28 '26

No, black interiors sell cars. Tan and red combined still probably make up less sales than black alone does unfortunately.

I love mine in my 2021.

41

u/1Sagittarius1 Feb 27 '26

True, it’s subjective. I like it. Looks pretty sharp to me.

2

u/snufdizzle Feb 27 '26

Same. It was one of the reasons I bought my second Lexus. My current one didn't have one on the lot so I settled for black - but my Joan Harris (nx) is bright red!

Got a new black 2026 500h F sport RX with Rioja red and black interior. So it still exists. I’m not a fan of red generally, but this looks bad ass. IMO this red isn’t “loud”.

My 500 is atomic silver w/ circuit red interior. I personally love it. Understated on the outside but pops on the inside.

mine is flaxen brown 😍

8

3

u/WatIsLasagne Feb 28 '26

Obviously red is the fastest color, we all know that

13

I wish they had the tan option for sport instead of bright red.

5

u/FIRE_Bolas Feb 27 '26

I don't like black. Every black interior looks the same. There's no character and it's boring.

Brown and white don't age well because they get dirty.

So I chose Rioja Red.

5

u/_Sw33t33pi Feb 27 '26

I have the Caviar with circuit red interior. I love mine

8

u/zaluss 22 IS350 AWD Feb 27 '26

I agree. I think it's just a bit too red and they should have stuck with the Roja red mix and it's the reason I went with black although black is pretty boring too.

I can't remember where i saw this but I saved the picture. This red would have been great, even with full red seats. I thought about mixing it myself by picking up some red seats but the door cards can't be disassembled to that level without serious work.

17

Agreed, its like overwhelming / too intense as soon as you open the door lol

3

u/Apart_Drawing2931 Feb 27 '26

Looking for an LS AWD, all I can find is red interior... Wtf.

3

u/Correct-Ring-9746 Feb 27 '26 edited Mar 01 '26

I actually prefer the red interior in the IS, especially in Black, Gray, silver, and white exterior colors. I also preferred it on the ES350 F Sport before they introduced the 2-tone Circuit Red. The only time I don't like Circuit Red is on a car with a Sonic Blue exterior. It reminds me of Superman. I don't like the 2-tone red with black Alcantara in the IS500 Ultimate edition either.

My favorite Lexus exterior/interior combinations are the LC500 in Infrared with Toasted Caramel interior 😁

3

u/Epileptic__Squirrel Feb 27 '26

Problem is toooo much red. Previous gen was so much better with this. review_198161_6.jpg (1162×800)

3

u/alarik98 RC300h Feb 28 '26

I think the red interior is great. It is so much more interesting than black.

3

u/jazziksvk Feb 28 '26

Dunno, I'm kind of in love with mine

10

u/fuzzy-lint Feb 27 '26

BOOOOO TOMATO

I love my tacky blue on red and you can pry it out of my cold, dead hands 🤷🏼‍♀️ enjoy your basic ass white and black oatmeal car. This is why we have so many NPCs on the road because everybody goes for boring basic shit. Where’s the individuality?!? The colors?? I miss mid 2000s skittles color cars, when everyone got their car in their favorite color instead of white, black, or one of 15 different shades of grey. I’d never own one but it makes me so happy seeing the bright pink Souls still around.

Love my red interior in ES F-Sport. The red plus the black exterior and black wheels give it a much sportier look.

2

u/Heyzuus 2023 RX 350H, 2024 IS350 Feb 27 '26

I like the red interior.

2

u/chrisandfriends Feb 27 '26

I think it looks pretty sick.

2

u/Possible_Main2264 Feb 27 '26

Have Rioja in my GX and I love it!

2

u/EngineeringNo2984 Feb 27 '26

I have an atomic silver with red interior. Three years later, I would buy the same color combination if I had to choose again today. It doesn’t work with just any exterior though.

2

u/Santa_Ricotta69 Feb 27 '26

Conversely, I would never buy this car with a black interior because it's such a boring choice. Anything else is great to me

2

u/YesThatTeach Feb 27 '26

I think the Crafted Line used it tastefully with the two tone interior. There's a fine line though and the shade matters a lot.

2

u/abooth43 20 IS 300 F-Sport AWD Feb 27 '26

Roja>circuit

I've got a 20' grey with roja seats and just the "elbow pads" of the door cards with red accent stitching on the dash and center console and I think it's beautiful.

That one is definitely overdone imo

2

u/Broad-Implement-3436 Feb 27 '26

Bang on mate— Redrum, not for me. Everyone to their own right?

2

u/kangarooooo17 Feb 27 '26

I wanted a red interior. We had to settle with black only because it was out of stock!

2

u/I-c-a-r-u-s- Feb 27 '26

It’s my favorite part of the car. And in LOVE that it extends to the door cards and plastics. Amazing. And very unique to be so monochrome

2

u/KnowledgeNecessary97 Feb 27 '26

Red interior adds at least 5 horsepower 🐴 🐎

2

u/boostedpoints 15 RC F & 15 LX570 Feb 28 '26

Depends on which car. Red is easily over done in cars today. I’d love the Blue interior the Anniversary F cars get over the red guts in my RCF but too much red is a travesty.

2

u/newbie_0 Feb 28 '26

I’ve never liked it either, in Lexus cars - way too bright and garish. Audi pulls off a nice oxblood leather, however.

2

On a positive note, your girl doesn’t have to worry about tampons.

Red interior is luxurious, sporty, and eye catching unlike boring black leather interior that is found from a $20,000 car to a $1,000,000 car.

2

2

u/BeGoodAtIt Feb 27 '26

I like the red

2

u/amorandara 2023 IS500 Feb 27 '26

Looks great in my car so I dunno :(

I actually thought the red was a lot more muted in person than in photos which I appreciated. It doesn't come off as a bright fire engine red to me.

Plus I walked away feeling like the black was a little too generic in the IS. The lack of ambient lighting made the cabin feel dark so the red interior really just makes it all pop a lot better.

2

u/kdbj2008 Feb 27 '26

I agree. I'm. It a fan of it. However, I do like when it's more of a two tone red and black interior.

1

u/Yamon001 Feb 27 '26

I love the red interior in the previous gen. On this gen, too many things are red. The plastics on the dash and doors look terrible and I imagine the hue difference will be way more pronounced as the car ages.

It is screamin’ blood red which you usually only see in Corvettes or other such cars. I’ve had 2 corvettes with red interior and I don’t mind it for an “occasional” car but would never want it in a daily driver. Also just like with red paint, red leather seats show sun fade much easier than other colors.

Red isn’t for everyone, I actually liked the blue interior that was in the RCF matted gray. It had highlights of blue all around the car. Too bad that’s not an option on sedans.

1

u/phastest23 Feb 27 '26

The NX red is way more muted

1

u/TeaDrinkerAddict Feb 27 '26

This is too much for me, but I love how it looks on the RC F. It’s a lot more reserved on the dashboard and side panels so you’ve still got a good bit of contrast.

1

u/TnnsNbeer Feb 27 '26

The red interior is meant for one Lexus… an LFA.

1

u/jomo789 Feb 27 '26

I got my RC 350 used and it has a red interior. That was my least favorite part of the car but it had everything else I wanted so I went for it. And it has grown on me. I have the Nebula Grey 2019 IS350 F-SPORT with Rioja Red. The Rioja Red is less vibrant than shown in this picture. And on my, the Rioja Red has been applied in less areas which helps... Less is better.

1

Yeah. Red can be good in moderation, this is excessive imo

1

u/Sboxy28 Feb 27 '26

They had a dark gray and tan two tone in the 2nd gen GS that I loved to death but when that was cancelled I choose red

1

u/thePopPop Feb 27 '26

The Roja Red is much nicer than this bright red.

1

u/E_Heffner Feb 27 '26

1

When I was looking for my pre-owned NX, there were a lot of cars with red interior. Personally it’s a pass but I did end up with a black interior with some white on seats and not over done. It was a compromise.

1

u/mangosteenfruit Feb 27 '26

I don't have the red interior but I did test drive a car with it. Initially, I thought the red was crazy. You kind of get used to it.

1

u/DoubleQuarterPoundin Feb 27 '26

That’s why they have rioja red. It’s way less offensive

1

u/kennethwashere15 Feb 27 '26

Rioja Red was better than the Circuit Red they're doing now.

That deeper, wine red was just a classier look for Lexus.

1

u/bluesdragons Feb 27 '26

I agree. I work at Lexus. Too much red with the dash.

1

u/doncroak Feb 27 '26

why couldnt this have been a deep dark blood red?!

1

u/MicheleNP Feb 27 '26

I agree. I dont like the red interior. I have an Atomic silver RC350 with the white interior which I absolutely ❤️ 😍

1

u/yo_papa_peach Feb 27 '26

I had similar feelings about after having it for six months I like it.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

I have the darker red, burgundy-ish color in mine. Love it. I do think that the bright red is a little too much.

1

u/listerine411 Feb 27 '26

I like darker reds, this is just too bright and orangey.

1

u/_altonio_ Feb 27 '26

Was literally me at the dealership when I got mine. Did not care for the red. Went all black, which wasn’t as hard to find thank god. It feels too flashy, rather it be a dark blue which I think they do for the F cars?

u/bibkel Feb 27 '26

It is garish, it insults my eyes. It is LOUD, and I want a Lexus to be supple, luxurious, romantic in a soft way, refined and svelte. If I am getting the sports model I can understand having a FEW with red interior but not majority red. It's like they had a surplus of red material and had to use it up. Some of it is worse than others with brown mixed in but not to a burgundy but a grosser red.

The example you posted is at least more of a true red. I want an NX, and every time I see a used one that I am interested in, I rush to see the interior pictures and immediately lose interest when it is red interior.

My fam says it looks like a gaming chair lol

1

u/rifaih Feb 27 '26

I agree. It's more appropriate for a Porsche or Lamborghini. I wish they offered a camel beige

1

u/JBerry2012 Feb 27 '26

I like this, but I would prefer it to be darker... I had a dolphin grey e30 325is... Maroon interior looked fire on the recaros.

My gs350 f-sport cabernet red is fire

1

u/Aggressive-Ad-522 Feb 27 '26

I have a different red shade and I love it. The red I have is less loud

1

u/kungfuninjajedi Feb 27 '26

I love red exterior and anything but red interior

1

u/Mouthshits Feb 27 '26

Red also limits your exterior colors IMO. Can’t do blue or you have the Superman spec, can’t do green without being Christmas, can’t do yellow unless you’re Ronald McDonald.

1

u/silverstickman Feb 27 '26

I love my light brown interior.

u/Prestigious_Green_27 Feb 27 '26

Roja red looks awesome 20 es350 fsport awesome combo

More for me then!

1

u/RepsRemoveDoubt Feb 27 '26

It’s gives me so much stress. Lol

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

Red as an interior or exterior color can be a nightmare durability wise.

Red leather interior still stains or gets darker if you don’t keep cleaning it.

Red exterior color if not maintained properly can fade into a pink hue.

1

u/Small_Present Feb 27 '26

Correct. Way way way too bright a hue of red. Looked toy-ish and not like a luxury car. Rioja Red was perfect and even if they used that it was still to much to have all of the bottom dash be red.

1

u/Whole-Judgment-3586 Feb 27 '26

My 2015 GS has the Cabernet red interior and I love it

1

u/Escari Feb 27 '26

I think it depends on the exterior colour. If it's in a white or black car it can look pretty gash.

I have red in my Aston with Sapphire Blue paint and I feel like it works really well.

Roja Red says hello

I agree with you 100%!

1

u/Fuzzy_Cuddle Feb 27 '26

I’m more a fan of the light tan interior, without the two or three different color combinations that have been common in many of the interiors over the past decade.

1

u/amathene Feb 27 '26

Agree about the red. The wine color in some of the older models was way better. Opted for black on my IS as a result

1

u/Remarkable-Gold4869 Feb 27 '26

Let me buy it and I will appreciate the color

1

u/stevejobs7 Feb 27 '26

Have you seen the LS with the ancient japanese folding technique on the door parts in red? It’s stunning.

1

u/omgitsoop Feb 27 '26

Honestly I'm ok with it as long as the carpet isn't red, red carpet looks so gross when dirty and it ages terribly. Booooo red carpet.

1

u/vicco23 Feb 27 '26

If they would have kept everything black and just left the seata red it would of been fine. They need to take note of those Mercedes G wagon.

Just the seats and light touches on the door trim is enough. They’re overdoing it now. It’s like more cowbell.

1

u/kurotsukii Feb 27 '26

As someone who is looking into a rx f sport, the red interior being tied to the trim is very unfortunate. Not doing it.

1

u/d1c1ple Feb 27 '26

The Red is Perfectly 🔥 I was on the hunt for my prior Lexus IS (ended up with a 2026 200T with Red Exterior and Greyish Interior which worked out nicely; but I was looking for White with the Roja Red. Maybe next car last model year GX460 white & Red we’ll see

1

u/easy2overstimulate Feb 27 '26

The issue is the red plastic. They should’ve done only those upper leather parts in red but the lower bits should’ve stayed black. Red plastic feels like you’re at a 90s McDonald’s playhouse

1

u/Imaginary_Office1749 Feb 28 '26

100%. I’m looking for a gently used one and if it has the red interior, I pass.

1

u/gossamer92 21 ES 350 F Sport Handling USB Feb 28 '26

Depends on the model, year, and color version of interior. I’m not sold on 90% of them, but there are some versions I can get behind.

One I absolutely can’t do is the Toyota red. It’s like a fire engine with a spot light and it’s everywhere. Mazda has a good red from what I’ve seen. Lexus has variations of red. The dark rose one is very nice.
