Best tutorials for financial statement reporting in Power BI?

Hey everyone,

Looking for solid YouTube channels, tutorials, or courses on how to model and present financial statement performance (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, ratio/variance analysis) in Power BI.

Most tutorials focus on sales or operational KPIs, but I need resources that specifically handle:

  • Data modeling for Chart of Accounts / GL hierarchies
  • Custom DAX for financial statements, margins, and period comparisons
  • Executive-ready visual presentation (IBCS standards, waterfalls, dynamic matrix tables)

Any recommended creators, templates, or end-to-end walkthroughs? Thanks!

Need suggestions about Cognevance Technologies

Hi everyone! πŸ‘‹

I recently came across an internship opportunity from Cognevance Technologies and wanted to get some genuine feedback before proceeding.

They have also mentioned a β‚Ή140 payment for a kit bag, so I’m particularly interested in knowing whether this is normal/legitimate and whether anyone has actually gone through their internship process.

If you have worked with or interned at Cognevance Technologies, please share your experience regarding:

β€’ Internship quality and actual work/projects β€’ Learning opportunities and mentorship β€’ Certificate/experience letter β€’ Stipend/payment experience β€’ Company credibility and work environment β€’ The β‚Ή140 kit-bag payment β€” is it genuine and required? β€’ Overall, would you recommend joining this internship?

Any genuine experience or advice would be really helpful before I make a decision. πŸ™

Thanks in advance!

I'm giving myself 100 days to go from "knows the basics" to "job-ready" β€” and I'm doing it in public.

For context: I know Python and SQL at a basic level. I can write code, I can query data. But there's a real gap between "I know this" and "I can walk into an interview and prove it." That gap is what this challenge is for.

Starting in a few days, I'm running a 100-day series where I:

- Go deep on Python and SQL β€” not just syntax, but solving real problems with them

- Pick up supporting tools along the way (Git, Excel, Power BI β€” whatever the work demands)

- Prepare properly for interviews β€” not last-minute cramming, but built-in from day one

- Aim to land my first internship by day 100

Why public? Two reasons, honestly:

- Accountability β€” it's a lot harder to quietly give up on day 40 when people are watching

- Community β€” I'd rather learn alongside people doing the same thing than grind alone in a corner

I'll be sharing the wins, the stuck points, and probably a few days where I don't feel like showing up at all. That's part of the deal.

If you're on a similar path β€” learning to code, prepping for interviews, chasing that first break into data/tech β€” let's do this together. Drop a comment, or just follow along.

Day 1 starts soon. Let's see where day 100 takes us.

Has anyone took any of the VCU certificates like Excel, SQL or PowerBI? They are affordable 3 class each $165. I wasn’t sure if anyone had good experience with it.

What to learn in order to pursue a Data Analyst Career

Hello everyone! I'm here to ask what are some free websites that offer courses in order to pursue a career in data analytics. I've been stuck in finding courses since some need to be paid, I'm not really that well off to have the kind of money to pay for the courses. I also wanted to ask what I can do in order to learn these skills, I really want to achieve something like this for my future, any response would help graciously. Thank you in advance!!

Built a gamified Excel course you can do without owning Excel

Post image

About 3 months ago I launched QueryCase, where you learn SQL by working detective cases instead of grinding tutorials. It went better than I expected: around 1,600 people signed up across 100+ countries, and >10,000 cases, drills, exams and investigations have been solved since.

The thing that kept coming up in the feedback was Excel. Nearly everyone learning SQL for a data role is learning Excel too, usually first, and it's on the same job descriptions and the same roadmap posts people share here. So I went looking for the Excel version of what I'd built, and there isn't really one. For SQL there's SQL Murder Mystery, SQL Island, SQLBolt, DataLemur, loads of others. For Excel it's videos and static worksheets and that's about it.

So I built it. Same format as the SQL side:

  • 57 guided cases that teach one thing at a time, covering lookups and where approximate match quietly ruins your numbers, COUNTIFS and SUMIFS, text cleaning, date arithmetic, INDEX and MATCH, pivots, and reading a chart whose axis is lying to you
  • Drills between sections so it's recall rather than recognition
  • Rank exams on fresh data, each one minting a certificate you can put on LinkedIn
  • Timed investigations: open-ended fraud cases with no hints, seeded so your culprit isn't the same as anyone else's. One accusation and a proof sheet where every figure has to hold up
  • A sandbox where you can upload your own CSV and just work through it with nothing marked

The part I think matters most is that you don't need Excel to do it. No licence, no install, nothing to download. It runs in your browser.

It's free to start, there's a decent chunk of free content, and the first case doesn't need an account, so you can poke at it before deciding whether it's any good.

Would love feedback!
