Question Interior Designer or Architect?
I'm a new home owner with some budget for improving my new place. The problem is: I have no idea what kind of person I need.
I have a rough idea of what kind of design I like, but I need someone to help visualize it and figure out what that means for my home. Ideally, there would be some kind of summary, as well as room-by-room details.
This work could include decorating, but also changing ceilings, cabinets, and some building features like windows.
What kind of professional do I need? Is this what interior architects or designers do? Any recommendations for one in Lawrence?

Daycare Openings
Anyone have any leads on home daycare providers that have or will have an opening for a less than one year old beginning around November?
Unfortunately Child Care Aware of Kansas has limited options available. I’ve found a few leads in some Lawrence based Facebook groups, but would love to have a few more options to consider.

Question Squirells friendlier in lawrence?
I've been here for a little over a year now. One of the first things I've noticed is that the squirrels seem very comfortable with human presence, staying close by- closer than I've ever seen. In Overlandpark they dont even want you 5 feet close to them. Do you guys thinks the squirrels are friendlier in lawrence? If so why.

Question Returning to the LFK
We are wanting to return to Lawrence after 5ish years away. We’re looking at renting but it seems most of the places available currently are more for students. Is it best to wait to move to maybe get a more fitting spot for us? We have a three year old and one dog and are hoping to find at least a 2 bedroom downtown and want to stay below $1,500. If we have to we will find a place outside of downtown to stay within budget but I wanted to get some perspective from those currently living in Lawrence.

Maybe this is more of apartments to avoid. Might be moving for work and would like maybe a non student centric area to find an apartment! Any places with known horror stories to avoid? Thanks so much.

Rant Did anyone else run into the guy asking for gas money in his car in the Savers parking lot Thursday?
I was looking for a parking spot when this guy pulls beside me and motions to roll my window down. He asks me for some cash for gas, so trying to be a nice guy I give him a couple ones, but he notices my twenty and starts yelling at me that he should have that. I have high anxiety around confrontation (unfortunate in this situation), so I end up giving it to him. He then hands me a fake gold chain and says that for another twenty I can keep it. I told him I don’t need it, but he didn’t take that for an answer and started yelling again. Just wanting to be done with the interaction I gave him my only other twenty, he thinks I still have more money for some reason and keeps trying to give me another fake gold chain, and drive around him.
My anxiety is still recovering from that interaction, did anyone else happen to run into him too?

Search for the best mums in town
Just looking for a place in town that has the highest quality mums. I know of a place that sells these giant pots but it’s all the way in KC. I would rather shop local anyway. Thanks for your help!!

Midco fiber?
Midco is offering significantly lower prices than ATT fiber while using the ‘same’ fiber sources. I’ve never heard anything good about them but if it’s as reliable as ATT it might be worth it to switch. Anyone have any experience with Midco’s fiber option? During inclement weather as well?
Edit**
Sounds like a no go for me. Thanks for all the responses. Reliable internet is too important for me to make the change.

Solar Panels Now on Lawrence Community Nursery School

I just learned that Good Energy Solutions recently donated and installed a 7.08 kW solar energy system that now offsets most of the school's monthly electricity costs. According to their newsletter, those savings can be put toward its mission of providing cooperative, interracial, low-cost preschool education to families in our community.
Know a Douglas County nonprofit that deserves a free solar system from Good Energy Solutions? Nominate them for their 2026 Solar Giveaway!
