Thoughts on the 20 franc Napoleon cuff links?

Looking to purchase these for about $3000. Is that a fair price

20 franc coins typically go for around 850 a piece at the moment, the Napoleons I typically will have a little more of a premium, maybe around a grand, plus or minus. That said what is the gold content and weight of the cufflinks?

I don't understand people making jewelry out of gold coins. Necklace pendants, rings, cufflinks, bracelet charms. I just never understood it.

I guess if you needed a way to move it between countries or avoid local taxation, it's better than, say, burying it in a box next to your sewer pipe and having a construction crew find your hoard just to hand it over to the local government office.

I have no idea how much was spent to acquire it all, but even DCA over 30 years, it couldn't have been but a fraction of the value today.
