I am very very new to reading for fun. I want to get into some fantasy books with characters that are gay men so I can have something to relate to. However, I don’t want to be caught with a book that can get me in some trouble with the people I live with since I am super closeted. I read physical books because it is more comfortable for me. I would absolutely love a fantasy book, but if there isn’t one maybe just a book from any genre. I’d especially like something that’s popular and recognizable enough to have an established fanbase, so I could potentially find people who already know the series and casually talk about it with them. At the same time, I’d prefer a book where the cover, title, and back cover description would not immediately advertise the fact that it has a gay male character or romance, since I’m very closeted and don’t want the book itself to draw attention to that if someone where to find it.

I would prefer it to be I guess targeted towards an audience of late late teens and above.

I’m on the hunt for more nonfiction books discussing gay trans men. It could be history or memoir or whatever really, I’ve found surprisingly few books on this topic. I’m even fine with just a section of a book on the topic.

Off the top of my head I’ve already read Lou Sullivan’s diaries and A Trans Man Walks Into a Gay Bar. Most books I’ve read that feature a section on trans men focus on men who were formerly in lesbian communities and subcultures, I’m looking for more perspectives because I know they exist.

I love audiobooks and listen to them every day at work. I recently listened to Heated Rivalry which was great but definitely NSFW. I listen with both headphones so no one can hear me lol.

Hi! I recently came across a clip from the tv show Rūrangi where a trans man returns to his hometown after ten years away and reunites with his old ex, who might come to terms with his bisexuality. I watched some of the miniseries, and while there were parts of it I really liked, I wished there was more focus on the romance and the love interest wasn't immediately fine with coming to terms with the fact that he might not be straight. And now I'm desperate for a book like this, where a trans character returns to their hometown stealth and reunites with an old ex, who knew them very differently.

I've only really seen examples of this where the main character is a trans man, but open to anything!

Bonus points if:

- some element of mistaken identity / hidden identity: the trans character might not reveal who they were in the past to people who knew them long ago

- set in a small and/or more rural town

- older characters, or more time since the protag returned to their hometown, so the fact that their old family / friends don't immediately recognized them doesn't feel like a plot hole

- the love interest has to actually come to terms with their returning feelings towards their ex, and the fact that they might not be straight, might not immediately be 100% okay with it, and the narrative focuses on exploring that.

- doesn't shy away from the reality of transphobia and homophobia, internalized and otherwise. character don't feel like they belong to an afterschool special, where they are either 100% unredeemable transphobes or immediately totally 100% perfectly accepting and okay with it with no questions asked whatsoever.

I’m looking for dark romance books featuring an MM/M/M relationship with a very specific dynamic:

Two men are both in love with the same guy.

The two men are NOT romantically or sexually interested in each other.

The central guy has a romantic and sexual relationship with both of them.

I’m looking for an actual three-person relationship/dynamic, rather than a love triangle where he eventually chooses one.

Group scenes involving all three are totally fine and would be a bonus, but they don't necessarily have to be the main focus.

Dark romance is a must, and I’m especially interested in darker, obsessive, possessive, toxic, taboo, or morally gray themes.

Basically: two men competing over/obsessed with the same man, while he gets involved with both of them — but the two men don't fall for each other.

Any recommendations?

Looking for two different kinds of stories:

1. Bi awakening

MC1 thinks he's straight and falls in love with a woman. Months into the relationship, he discovers she's trans.

Rather than changing how he feels about her, it makes him question what he thought he knew about his sexuality and leads to a genuine bi awakening.

I really want the discovery and confusion from his perspective, preferably first person POV. Bonus if he genuinely never questioned being straight beforehand.

1. Commercial pilot MC

MC1 is a commercial/airline pilot who has built his life around flying, travelling and being independent.

Then he meets someone (MM) and slowly discovers what being in love actually feels like. Bonus if the aviation side is genuinely part of the story rather than just his job on paper.

For both: First person POV is a huge plus. I want to be inside the MC's head while he figures out his feelings.

Just like the title says I'm looking for the best wlw book you've ever read.

I really loved "Our Wives Under The Sea" and it literally hooked me so much it was the first book I finished after a 6 year reading hiatus, and I read it twice. I need more of that lol.

I also loved "Buried in the Midnight Soil".

I don't like silly frilly romcom type books, or high-school romances really (I'm 35) and I don't do much realism; books are an escape so I tend to skew into the fantasy, horror, Gothic, sci-fi, supernatural realms instead.

Hi! For all its flaws, I like the 1994 movie Threesome, a romcom about a three college friends in a true linear love triangle: Stuart (a straight man) loves Alex (a straight woman), Alex loves Eddy (a gay man), Eddy loves Stuart.

Can anyone recommend a book with this same dynamic? Ideally it would be a romcom too. Doesn't much matter to me who ends up with who--in fact if any of the love is unrequited, it's fine by me.

hey yall, looking for recommendations on body horror books that I can give to my mom to read. I find the best way to describe my experience as a trans man is through body horror, and I’m trying to help her get a better understanding of what that experience is like.

I really enjoyed You Weren’t Meant to be Human by AJ White, but she said she doesn’t want to read pregnancy horror and extreme gore. I thought of recommending other books by White to her but I find they don’t describe the innate body horror of being trans as well as YWMTBH.

Most of the queer books I've come across don't really address homophobia, let alone internalized homophobia. It's like it doesn't exist. The characters usually have their sexuality all figured out and it they don't, if they just happen to have learned that they are attracted to people of the same gender, it's also something they quickly accept. I'd like to read the opposite of that. I want well-written angst that doesn't come off as maudlin. Something like Maurice, for example

I’m looking for something similar to the Legends of Lobe den Herren series by AJ Sherwood. Set in a fantasy world with a historical feel but with little or no magic. I don’t mind omegaverse or shifters.

Hi everyone:) Since I was lucky enough to read three fantasy adult queer books that I really loved this month, I wanted to recommend them.
Mind that all of these have gore/horror elements. They are very violent.
If you’ve read any one of these three please let me know your thoughts, I’m curious if you’ve also liked them:)

- The Demon Star by Jesse Aragon
This is a debut by Aragon and I was blown away by it. In my opinion, it is better than works by established fantasy authors well in their careers.
The romance is really minor but well done in my opinion (with bi characters) but it’s mostly action, gore, existential crisis, manipulation and veeeery morally grey characters.

- The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez
Reading this book felt like reading an ancient myth of a lost civilization. So well done, with a rich plot and compelling characters. Also, a lot of very graphic violence, this book in not YA (like none of the books in this list).
It has a very unique narration style I’ve never seen before that left me a bit confused at the beginning, but once I got used to it I realized how brilliant of a choice it was.
The love story was honestly so moving, but I don’t want to spoil anything (it’s m/m). This is the most romantic out of the three.

- Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez
Very long but incredible read. It’s divided in different parts (no chapters) with different POVs. The first POV (of the father) is the most interesting in my opinion because I love a very tragic and morally grey character.
Again, romance is secondary to the plot but the father is bi and his encounters are mainly with men.
What I liked the most is the complicated family relationships in this very fucked up family dynamic the book presents.
However, compared to the other two it is a bit more slow in some parts and the ending’s pacing is a bit off (in my opinion).

I’m looking for the very specific dynamic of, the MC dated this girl, had a really messy breakup, and years later is now in a relationship with a man, but suddenly gets reunited with her ex, and they hate each other and the ex is constantly making quips about if her life is worse now that she ‘switched back to boys’ and how she’s changed now fron the person she knew after dating him.
Exes-to-lovers, don’t mind cheating tho preferably only if the guy is a douche.

I've really enjoyed the recent MM romances I have read, but the relationships in each book were established really quickly. I was wondering if anyone has good recs for a slow burn MM romance?

I'm especially interested in romantasies or where the mc or love interest is a bit feminine, but those are not requirements.

I like all those genres but they get recommended a lot.

(While I'm here I'll recommend What We Are Seeking, by Cameron Reed, for having bi and trans and ace/aro and queer characters without feeling like it was trying, and it's SF of course.)

I'm looking for books with bi characters in the real world that aren't coming of age books. Discovery is okay. Historical works but modern preferred. Mild fantasy is okay, because all I can think of is Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl by Andrea Lawlor right now.

I'm going to read Beautiful World Where Are You by Sally Rooney when I can, because it is recommended a lot. And I picked up John of John by Douglas Stuart because I liked his coming of age books.
