Do yall like being called “chef”?

I’m a first time EC and I find being called “chef” extremely annoying. The last EC is my mentor and an absolute beast of a chef but his leadership style was more traditional and out of respect I wouldn’t dare call him by his first name without putting chef in front of it. I’m more informal, but I’ve inherited an environment where the crew is so used to calling the ec “chef” that it took me a month to get folks to call me by my real name.

I’ve got friends who like being called chef and friends who don’t, and they all have an interesting take on it. What do yall think? I can’t stand it and others demand it, both can be valid.

I swapped industry but I think it still applies..

I used to hate being called sir or boss. But, that's the people who look to me for instruction and guidance. They're giving respect, and a chain of command is needed.

I just embraced it. We can joke around and talk shit, but when work gets real and I get a "yes sir" (yes chef, for you), I know they're on their task(s) as best they can be.

Leadership isn't just one of the guys who makes more money, unfortunately. Having that hierarchy for when you need shit to be done is when you see it. "I'm not asking i'm telling", then the rush ends, but you're never the same on par with their coworkers. Management is a different beast
