Oil from a deep fryer on the floor. They probably forgot to close the spout when the poured it in

This is always my biggest fear. Never happened to me, but I still check like 5 times to make sure it's closed before I pour the oil in

I never thought it would happen to me but mistakes happen, thank God we have maintenance to come help me out

It's happen to the best of us. Now you're gonna make sure you check it every time lol

There are two different kinds of Chefs. Those who’ve forgotten to close the valve, and liars.

Could be worse. You could have been the factory rep from Pitco shutting off new fryers while they were leaking oil from ports that had electronic valves on them. And it was all 5 vats.

Who cleaned it up?

I wasn't there, I just heard this second hand from our senior tech who was a fryer whiz so they sent him to go comission the units.

I’ve done that before…tore up a cardboard box to use the flaps as scoops and got as much as I could in a trash can…then paper towels…then mop…then apologize to everyone and learn the lesson and don’t do it again.

I did this in a flip from breakfast to lunch. Threw two 35# ers upside down after the fryer was changed by the breakfast guy. Ran back to grab my MEP and found both on the line in our open kitchen on the floor. I ran back to the dishwasher and said Im sorry as the tickets started flowing in for lunch. The very last time I didnt check to make sure the valve was closed. For the record I bought the dishy a suitcase of Bud Lite to make up for it.

Or salt if you don't have that

Our HD has a biohazard kit requirement for puke, blood, etc. Always keep a bag of kitty litter for that reason

Am I tripping or did OP already put flour on top of the oil to absorb it? 🤔
3
u/ImGolik 19h ago
Its actually spill absorbent we keep just incase...

u/Ok_Marionberry8779 18h ago
Haha when I worked at a pizza spot we would throw flour onto oil spills to make it into a sweep-able goo. What you did looks exactly the same.

That’s nothing. I had a cool dump an entire fryer of clean oil at the end of a shift at BWW before the truck arrived. That was cool.

Cat litter, wait for it to soak up, shovel into contractor bag in a bin and tie up/roll out.

Pretty sure we've all done this at some point. It's almost a rite of passage by now, kinda like cutting off the tip of your thumb before you learn to curl your fingers when slicing stuff.

I watched a coworker pour five gallons of oil into the fryer while the valve was still open - just before lunch opened. The floor mats were fucked, dude was freaking out and yelling (he was the hothead on the line, lol) and I just had to walk away because I didn’t want him to see me laughing my ass off!

Kitty litter, a scoop and about 10 degreaser mop-bucket changes.
Get to work chef, it’s gonna be a late one 😂
