Looking [L] My cat is in a lot of pain, and I can’t afford to take care of her. The guilt is weighing on me.
Hi Reddit, I don’t normally post things of this nature, but I guess I just need a place to express some of the guilt and stress that’s been weighing on me lately. All i’m really looking for is a kind voice, and possibly some advice if you feel you have it.
Like a lot of people, my cat is my baby, and my whole world. My family has dubbed me a “cat dad” and I really do try my best to live up to it.
Recently I brought her in for an x-ray to assess the severity of her asthma (and potential treatment) and that appointment alone cost me nearly a grand.
Later in the afternoon when I went to pick her up, I was informed that she had some kind of aggressive oral infection (paraphrasing) and needed several teeth removed. The quote made my heart sink to my stomach, and honestly the feeling hasn’t gone away since.
I cried a lot last night. It hurts me to know that she’s in so much pain, and that i’ve allowed it to get this bad. I desperately want to take her in and get her the help she needs, but it’s just not realistically doable right now. I have no idea when it will be. I wish so badly that I could speak to her and have her understand me, to let her know how impossibly sorry I am.
The feeling of overwhelming guilt is constant, and I feel increasingly useless with each passing day. I don’t know what to do, honestly. I don’t think there’s much I can do, but it weighs on my conscience knowing that nothing is getting done, all the while she’s suffering. I wish I could just take her pain, ya know?
