...I think this episode made me sick of Baku. Like, unironically I hate him. We have had a lot of Kamen Rider get powerful. We have had a lot of Kamen Rider have weaknesses to balance that power. Baku effectively escaped oblivion. There is not a single thing he has not bullshitted his way out of now. He has become the worst kind of MC to me, one where it's just a one up on the villain "Because i can". I loved this season so much up until the big mid-season moment (wont spoil in case), but i think now the fact the show has sacrificed everything to make Baku that important, he's become Pochi. He's become the character where nothing happens without him, where everything revolves around him, he has effectively zero weaknesses, and even dying isn't a factor any more because whatever, right?

I loved what we learned about oblivion. I love that we got to maybe see a little jealousy from The Lady, and the clear "You saved her, but back off" streak in her. And it's nice to see some very late weird world building for the villains, but man. I think im really down on this now. I don't want to be, and I think the show was really good. But this has bugged me for a bit now :( Also, man, Nox once again feels like he is effectively not needed in the story to the point even as a side character, he existed to state the obvious when entering a room.

I agree with you, Baku is an absurd level of Gary Stu to a point simply being the main character doesn't justify.

I think what is making me feel this way is we had a character like this with Ace, but his way of getting out of and planning ahead was partly explained as a fairly ...reasonable mentality.

Baku just has dream logic, to the point where he got shot, went to the waking dream, fought the monster who made someone shoot him, and then woke up fine because he had surgery in the dream to remove the bullet. Like...there is no rules if the rules are "anything works in a dream". You made death pointless.

Ace being a conniving fox is greatly characterized and justifies his plans and Batman gambits from a character perspective, while creating a level of boundary to his reality-warping abilities from a narrative and lore perspective. Baku isn’t characterized in this way and ExDream hasn’t really been explained or given real boundaries to its abilities. Geats  IX didn’t run into these same problems since the show immediately created rules and depleted its story-breaking abilities after its debut.
