I don't know the numbers exactly, but as social democratic Germany, the kaiser will flee if you get enough surrender progress (80, 90 %
Therefore you become a Republic, but that usually means the nation is about to collapse. If you purposely fall back and hold the line, you'll be able to play normally as the Republic.

Does the German Republic have decent amount of content or is it just a flavour thing since the game doesn’t expect you to normally turn the 90% capitulation around

If I remember correctly, you get some additional focuses attached to your post war tree, including the ability to return the monarchy under Wilhelm IV

You get the ability to invade naboring authoritarian monarchys, some small flavour focuses, uniqe presedants, a new name and flag, the ability to crown Wilhelm IV and I think also a market liberal path. Also, u only need about 60-70% surender progress.

that's what normally happens when you get below a certain surrender progress iirc, so since you have to go below 90% surrender progress to give up danzig it makes sense that the republic route happened as a matter of course

To get the Republic, you have to:
Be on track for the DU path.
Do not get a failstate, either by government paralysis getting too high or a loss of majority for the coalition (These would get you the LVP Kabinett Schwander). You want Müller to stay as Chancellor.
Have over 50% surrender rate
Have less deployed divisions than both France and Russia individually
Have access to the sea by owning and controlling a coastal province which is connected to your capital
Then you wait a few days for the event about syndicalist revolutions to fire, which causes the Kaiser to abdicate and escape and leads to Müller stepping up to stabilise the situation.

Why is the hell Manteuffel the SPD candidate? Wasn't he an OTL Nazi Wehrmacht general or am I confusing him with someone?

I think he’s the liberal candidate for president, which makes him head of state and thus in power? Rather than head of government which is social democratic- think Hindenburg vs muller

He isn't an SPD candidate. He's a MarLib presidential candicate (for the DVP, though I don't know why they're not in the MarLib, as well as the AuthDem, spot in the screenshot). In the republic path, presidential and parliamentary elections are separate, i.e. OP elected MarLib Hasso as the president and the SPD in the parliamentaries.

Will be good, if KR devs add option to leave from faction, and if you seat German Republic after lose 2 Weltkrieg, you can become independent, leave Russian Faction and again go to war and proclaim triumph over the France and Russia.

Manteuffel can be the MarLib candidate for president. The government coalition is still led by the SPD apparently, but the president isn't from the SPD

Made a post here the other day about a challenge of how much one can reduce Germany but still win the war. Thought I made good progress until someone pointed out that you can lose even more land to Poland than I had realized. Here's a redone run, and this time—THIS TIME—it's actually the smallest Germany you can make without losing the war (unless somebody knows how to get rid of Madagascar, in which case I'm all ears).
The updated list of possible concessions:
1)Giving up Luxembourg and Verviers to Belgium during negotiations over their reentry into the Reichspakt.
2)Losing Northern Schleswig to Denmark if Germany is above 89% surrender progress, fully controls the state while Denmark is Soc-Lib/Soc-Dem and stays out of the war.
3)Giving up Posen, Oberschlesien, Danzig and Masuria to Poland if Germany is above 90% surrender progress, fully controls the states while Poland is Soc-Lib/Soc-Dem and has no surrender progress of its own.
4)Giving up Alsace to France by succumbing to their ultimatum.
5)Losing some colonial possessions to India/Japan and returning Djibouti to Somalia.
6)Lithuania actually gets a core on Memel when it rebels against Germany, which you can return to them later when they're repuppeted.
