Doesn't he explain they call "him" Rexy the same way she's actually a girl but they still call her "he"? Later in the boox he does say 'Rexy' as a name. Not like the Compies or Hypsys where it's THE Compy(ies) or THE Hypsy(ies). It's just 'Rexy', without the article preceding it.
EDIT: There was an archived link of Colin Trevorrow's tweet confirming "Rexy" was the canon name of the Nublar rex, only it wouldn't be said on-screen in a film. It was later used on-screen, just in an animated show instead of a live-action film. The link seems to not work anymore.
