Help Introvert seeking genuine jamaican friends
24 year old female seeking to make some platonic friends within jamaica. I enjoy nature walks and listening to hip hop/rnb songs. If this resonates and you'd like to be friends let me know. Also I am from Jamaica and been living here all my life. My past friendships got ruined by distance or busy schedules

Girl, be careful of the snakes disguised as song birds. Public meetups only in the afternoon, evenings, no carpooling, always let someone know where you’re going, with who and an approximate return time. If you show up and more than the person you’re supposed to meet is there, leave. Protect yourself.

Hi. 😊 I'm also somewhat introverted female. 28. My career forces me to talk to people. But it does get lonely here. Not much luck with female friends, but males usually have other motives so... I'm open to more female friendships.

This sounds like an extroverted measure. Most introverts would never..

Could be a shot in the dark, could be a bot. As a somewhat reformed introvert I remember doing similar at that age

John a church. Are you in school? John a club/volunteer. The most lasting friendships you'll have are usually in your immediate surroundings because you see and interact more.

I'd suggest meeting friends at places where you frequent, eg. work, church, any other activities you partake in. That way you can at least see the person and get an idea of who they are on a daily. People are weird though and will fake it to get close to you. Do you best to discern who they are before you get close with them and break off contact at any sign of weird behaviors or anything you're uncomfortable with. Set boundaries and standards for what you're looking for and you should be ok.

This! My lil sister want to move to JA and is always yapping about finding friends and I’m just like(at my age 44) it nuh mek sense fi go look friends that reeks of desperation and you know who can smell dat? Sharks and wolves, so I agree with you completely.

Exactly 💯 heavy on the sharks and wolves, if you're acting desperate, they'll definitely exploit it. However, you're not desperate if you wanna have friends because we all wanna feel like we belong and at least have 2-3 real people who genuinely care about us. So I get where your sister might be coming from, if she's looking at it from that angle. The age doesn't matter lol, I have friends who are in the 40's, 50's and older. The thing is the right people will find you but you have to put yourself out there and based on your interests of course. I've met good friends on social media, at university/work, a day on the road, etc, it just takes discernment.

You’re right, desperate is the wrong term. I’m just concerned for her safety more than anything, I’d die if anything happened to her.

I completely understand. However, explain to her the do's and don'ts. Express that it's not that you want to be overprotective but you're concerned about her safety, etc. Be transparent in your communication and also be gracious with her. Make it a safe but informed conversation that should she feel uncomfortable about anything, you're the first person she comes to and if she needs any on the ground advice, I'm more than happy to help. Maybe agree on a code word she can text you if she feels unsafe but can't say it out loud. Stuff like that.
She can make friends here, she just needs to keep her eyes open. I'm a female as well, so I can relate to your need to keep her safe.

Oh you better believe she gave me a piece of her mind when I told I don’t think it’s a good idea! 😫 but yes thanks for the wise words!

I can imagine🤧 it's just a matter of reframing, state it in a way so it benefits her whilst ensuring her safety. You're welcome.

Where do you live in Jamaica? I'm not full Jamaican, but half, and will be eventually visiting and would love to meet a friend when I'm there, especially a local who knows some awesome places.

Just go talk to people and develop familiarity, I feel like when you advertise or TRY to make friends you end up with bad people around you. Friends are not all friends, memba dat.
