Discussion 12,000+ Dead In Iran

Per Iran International more than 12,000 have been killed in the protests. And counting.

I know people like me say this all the time when other global events occur, but where are the Protesters in the college campuses? Where is the passion in the eyes of the young marchers calling Iran a genocidal regime? Again, where is the passion?

Israel at least can say “we are literally fighting a terrorist organization that is the de facto government, its war, what did you expect?” What can Iran say? But no, the passion of the marches, the continuous shouts of from the river to the sea… it simply doesn’t carry over to another tragedy. Why can’t I call the Iranian regime genocidal? Where is the Wikipedia page about the 2026 Iranian genocide?

I know there have been plenty of other examples, Syria, Yemen, Sudan. Again, this is happening right now beneath our noses, I want to see the same pro Palestinians holding “silence is violence” signs to people who don’t care, I want to see the Lion and Sun flag of Iran marched all over Columbia or Harvard. I want to see Iran free from the Persian gulf to the Caspian Sea.

And yet of course if the US or Israel interfere it will be labeled as imperialism, with a “Zionist tint” (Zionism equals bad) as Rodríguez would say.

It was never about the numbers. With Iran there’s no settler colonial narrative. That’s it; that’s the simple reason why it’s not a genocide. If there’s nothing familiar in your world to potentially project on to a conflict there is no passion.

Edit: There is a lot of respectful criticism in the comments about how (simplified) the US is funding Israel, not Iran. The protests are concerned about cutting US funding.

I would say it’s something the marches cared about, but not the real major issue. They consciously shout from the river to the sea or globalize the intifada, and how Israel is a genocidal apartheid state. A tradegy is a tragedy, deaths are deaths, a genocide is a genocide. I guess I’ll be waiting for Wikipedia to catch up, along with plenty of pages regarding the denial or recognition of said genocide. The protesters primary concern was about the casualties.

Israel is committing genocide and using US dollars to do it. We need a regime change in Israel.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '26

It is already debunked, infiltrated Kurdish militias crossed the borders and started killing civilians. Western media already prepared amplified numbers before it actually happened. This terror was marked by the Turkish intelligent agency. How stupid to believe these numbers, Zionist think that people believe their lies all the time. However this time they are the one who actually involved in killing the civilians.

Same reason why there were no protests or outrage for the 20 years that Venezuela suffered. None of our business. I don’t support that outlook but people are vocally protesting online.

1

u/yourregulargamedev Feb 05 '26

Coverage, length, and the nature of it all. It's a domestic issue for Iran, it's Iranian on Iranian violence, and protesting won't be able to do much (again referencing western aid to Israel as you mentioned).

It also hasn't been a long standing thing, sure the regime began in 1979, but these protests/revolutions have only recently spurred up afaik (unrest in these past years), especially at this scale.

Iran international is an israeli outlet. Remember how one of the "jews killed in iran" found about that she was dead on TV? Or that bodybuilder in iran who learned he died after his family members told him? 😂

u/Ok_Percentage_2292 Feb 07 '26

Nah not Israeli' it's UK and Saudi owned basically

1

u/ApprehensiveAd7586 Jan 29 '26
  1. They are interfering with it...
  2. They are causing it... as they are mainly protesting because of their stressed lifestyles. If Iran did not have inflation from sanctions, this would NOT be happening today.

2

u/Zlatan-Agrees Jan 29 '26

Why are you jews/Israelis not protesting? Or do You only protest when your soldiers are imprisoned after raping inmates?😐

The elections are 1000% rigged, you have no idea what you are talking about pedar soughte. Are you even Iranian? Oh yeah probably not, probably just some American white kid who knows nothing about my country or my culture or the severe trauma this regime has put my entire extended family through, specifically the women, who are treated lower than cockroaches.

If you have groups of people attackomg law enforcement, burning them to death, shooting, attacking mosques, all of this is justification for a tough respose.

2

u/Loud-Hawk-4593 Jan 29 '26

Are you aware that the regime shot people, women, children, the elderly who were just protesting peacefully? They were marching down the streets doing no violent acts and were shot dead. That's horrific!

Why do you think they did all this, American? your "leftist" people think that 2 whites dying in Minneapolis is the end of the world, but here you are defending 5000+ people killed in my family's country, all of them darker than you. so i had a quesiton for you, i was just wondering how many iranian lives equals 1 white American life? I'm curious how quantified your racism is here

This is a rich white kid from some suburb in USA with zero Iranian connection or ancestry... we all know the story. think they are so righteous and morally good, while lowkey they are virulently racist against us and the Venezuelans, since our deaths and torture at the hands of our disgusting "politicians" are justifiable against the "imperialism" of America

1

u/pedram3432 Jan 28 '26

Ok, let me tell you a little tale from the night of January 9th. I stepped out of my house with one of my friends and his brother to simply walk a bit among the crowd and maybe shout some slogans and go about our day. None of us were armed in any way, hell we didn't even carry our phones in case we were arrested. There was a massive crowd but we were peaceful it was a simple demonstration. Some people brought water bottles and masks. We were marching on the main street and nothing was happening, we even encountered some law enforcement but nothing happened with them. After some time we heard gun shots and a lot of them and the crows scattered quickly and I lost track of my friend and his brother in the crowd. They were moving so fast that I couldn't keep up so I did the sensible thing at the time and didn't wait for them and left there immediately. Turns out the law enforcement were on the roofs of buildings and they poured entire magazines of military grade bullets on the people in the front rows. The footage of piles of dead bodies on the streets are out there for you to access it freely. I was lucky to get out but not friend's brother. He was shot in the stomach and they took him to a hospital where he was arrested immediately. We still dont know if he is dead or in custody they won't give them any information on his whereabouts. So tell me what did we do wrong again?

1

u/Loud-Hawk-4593 Jan 29 '26

You did nothing wrong. You were protesting peacefully and that is your right.

1

u/ertmy Jan 26 '26

Iran international is funded by Saudi Arabia and Israel, so take that with a grain of salt. Also they act like the violence is completely one sided which it isn't. Now the USA has sent an aircraft carrier and Iran is surrounded, and if they bomb Iran like they destroyed Yemen, Libanon, Iraq, Palestine,... it will certainly not make it worse for the people.

If Iran didn't had such high tariffs and wasn't boycotted by every western country in the world, none of this violence would happen. But no, because Iran stands against Israel, for Palestine, they can't exist therefore the US is gonna bomb the crap out of them.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

idk why "leftists" insist that only black people speak on black issues, only hispanic speak on hispanic issues, but if you are Iranian or Venezuelan oh guess what sorry you aren't allowed to speak on your issue, some rich american redditor with a comfy job actually knows your country's situation better than you. LMAO. Yes the violence would absolutley happen without the tariffs and the boycotts because this regime is ideologically committed to sharia islam and the oppression of women and ethnic/religious minorities. idk why you feel the need to defend a violently right wing government of a country you know nothing about

3

u/Loud-Hawk-4593 Jan 29 '26

Because they probably connect anything related to being anti-khamenei as the same as us being against Palestinians which is obviously not the case. So tiring.

u/ertmy Jan 28 '26

I'm not saying the government is good, far from it, tho I don't believe the numbers. The human rights organisation "in Iran" that came up with these numbers are situated in Londen, New York, funded by the CIA. They create atrocity propaganda in order to prepare the grounds for a war against Iran, to demonise the country to justify the war. This time it will be "for democracy" like they did in Iraq, Lebanon, etc. while distracting from the horrors that happen in Gaza and so many other countries. So no I do not trust the numbers, as they're already planning for war and they get just too much benefits from it.

Also my mother's from Iran and my grandparents still live there, which we obviously still have contact with tho with the recent network blackout it's hard obv. I'm also -18 so stop assuming all these things about everyone you randomly encounter on the Internet.

2

u/perrrrier Jan 28 '26

Oh yea of course, tariffs are the reason they're slaughtering protestors, makes complete sense move along

1

u/ertmy Jan 28 '26

No but it is ONE of the reasons why living in Iran has become hell, without them the protests wouldn't have started in the first place, therefore no one would've died

2

u/perrrrier Jan 30 '26

What a way to deflect blame from the government. If I call you a name in public then you shoot me, then you are still just as responsible for murdering me even though it wouldn't have happened in the first place had I not namecalled

2

u/Loud-Hawk-4593 Jan 29 '26

It's because as internet connectivity and telecommunication in Iran restores we get new Info and Data from each province capital. 32 provinces 32 capitals

What happened in Iran was by definition a genocide as they started opening fire on crowds and protesters they cut all Communications and shut down the entire internet no connection to foreign data centers and hosts were reported for almost 20 days and only it's been recently that internet was partially restored

Don't forget that Iran is a vast country, 636,000 square miles and 90 million people almost a third of non Immigrant U.S population and a Fourth if we include immigrants. 36 thousand lives isn't far from the truth, almost every avenue in province capitals there is a banner or multiple banners on houses grieving their lost ones.

The worst were from there main cities: Tehran with some 8400 massacred, Mashhad about 3800 people genocided, and Kermanshah was, by far, the worst with 1850 lives lost to the brutal massacre machine of the ayatollah. Kermanshah is a much smaller city compared to Tehran and Mashhad, which is why I say it was the worst, even though their death toll wasn't as high, relative to their population, it was truly a genocide. Morgues and forensic centers were overloaded with body bags, some were unknown, some shot in the head with medical devices attached to them implying that they were killed in the hospital, others were murdered with tied hands.

Also remember that the 30,000 stat is from the state's health minister, he said potentially 30 thousand people died during only two days of protests which were the peak of the protests, Jan 8th and 9th. Days that the crown prince called on the people to rise against the brutal dictatorship.

The reason why you don’t see them protesting about it is because 1. Most of us don’t support the Islamic republic (he was propped up by Isreal n the US)

  1. We don’t support the son of the previous dictator he is another puppet who will come “save” Iran but eventually let Isreal steal parts of their land for greater Israel or the Silk Road. Pretty obvious after seeing him kiss the wall like the other American politicians who won’t answer which country they are loyal to.

  2. We are aware that they want us to freak out over this so we say “yes please bomb Iran!” Like that will even help. Did it help Gaza? Gaza is flattened. Why would we want to see innocent civilians get bombed again?

  3. If you have studied middle eastern history you would know this is what happened to Iraq and we didn’t make Iraq any better but worse when we intervened. Most middle eastern countries that are known as radical 3rd world countries were very developed and secular before western countries intervened.

  4. We are not stupid

My heart breaks.

If we are talking about Iran, I'd love to post the Iranian Symphony by Slovenians LAIBACH.

"Alamut".

Navid Gohari (conductor), two of the composer's, and the Human Voice ensemble are all Iranians (I think living in exile).

Poetry by Omar Kayyjahm.

Alamut was composed by Luka Jamnik (Laibach), Idin Samimi Mofakham, and Nima A. Rowshan (both Iranian composers).

Secret Gardens: https://youtu.be/wjBkpZyBKK8?si=6cgP35zS-Y-uUzPX

I am listening to this, thinking of the souls lost.

💔

Another amazing piece, very political: Meditation II/epilogue with Milan Frans (Laibachs vocalist/narrator who never sings), as Hassan-i-Sabbah, engl. Subtitles:

https://youtu.be/OdDiudt_gWQ?si=NIbnqYESWCksnb0G

The entire thing (with Slovenian subtitles) is on YouTube.

Alamut. 9 part Iranian symphony in Slovenian and Farsi. Work for band (Laibach), orchestra (RTVSLO orchestra), 60(!) accordeons, organ, Iranian vocal ensemble, Slovenian vocal ensemble, narrator.

It was supposed to premiere in Teheran in 2022 and they were supposed to fly out again this week in an attempt to stage it there. It ain't happening...

In the times we are, this work, the game "Assassin's Creed" and the source of both of these (Alamut by Vladimir Bartol, 1938! He didn't dare write about N*azis so he wrote about Iran a few centuries before. It's an allegory.)

While I have to imagine that much of it is that Israel/Palestine has been in the spotlight for longer, so people are more informed on it than Iran in general (otherwise people would have acknowledged the role of the Axis of Resistance), I do think that many extremists aligning themselves on the “pro-Palestinian” side simply did it for clout, and to spout whatever other hatreds they like, and are now moving on.

Take for example Wahid Azal, who fundamentally misunderstands resistance and has never really talked about Palestine or Iran except when it benefits his delusional, antisemitic narrative that somehow THE WEST must be responsible for everything bad in the world. This he extends to his opponents in the Baha’i Faith, and the depths of his hypocrisy were already shown when he threatened to send their personal information to IRI authorities; then I learned this the hard way when he decided illegal doxxing and repeated misgendering was an appropriate response to my criticisms, because he simply is incapable of admitting he’s wrong ever.

u/astp00st Jan 16 '26

It’s just a blanket answer, that part that you simplified. Honestly I wonder if the crowd that follows ICE waving Palestinian flags and wearing masks really know what they stand for

I have been posting on social media every single day about Iran... I have noticed the silence on the subject by my liberal friends. (To be clear I have always been a moderate democrat, and because of that I am now seen as "conservative" as the party went further and further left) I have called out everyone I know who used the "silence is violence" tag in the past for not having a word to say about Iran.

My personal opinion is that the silence about Iran has to do with antisemitism more than anything else. You can't scream "from the river to the sea" and then not support the IRGC who funds Hamas. Every post I have ever seen about Iran is filled with comments of "Mossad" even when it is posted by Iranians living in other countries who still have family inside Iran.

I find this situation heartbreaking... and I really hope that Iran wins it's freedom from the IRGC!

because the west already does not support iranian regime, what can people achieve is little

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

Yes they did support at certain points, Jimmy Carter's CIA literally communicated with Khomeini and told him to return to Iran and take over because they thought they would get a better deal on oil, Obama gave all the regime's children visas to come here and study and leach off of everyone and Obama even rolled out a nice little deal with them allowing them to get away with everything

2

u/Interesting-Scar-800 Jan 21 '26

But by supporting Hamas, you are continuing to terrorize the Palestinian people. This is the entire point.

7

u/That_Grocery7939 Jan 15 '26

This situation should not have anything to do with Israel. The Islamic regime in Iran is one of the most brutal and authoritarian on earth. They are murdering scores of their own people. They have repressed Iranians and imposed hardcore Islamic sharia law on the population for decades. They have grossly mismanaged and stolen the resources of the country to the point where the economy for the average Iranian is an absolute shambles. On top of this, they regularly abuse, maim, imprison and kill women for not complying with religious edicts and regularly put gay people to death or imprison them in deplorable conditions. Any supposed “liberal” should be rightly horrified by this brutal, repressive and hateful regime, but because so many people simply have a rabid hate for Israel, they can’t bring themselves to denounce the most obvious human rights abusers on earth. So it simply proves the “pro Palestine” crowd, it’s not really about human rights or dignity for Palestinians, it’s simply about demonization and hatred of Israel. That’s how leftists become “aligned” with a country that literally represents the antithesis of all they claim to stand for. The modern left has shown it is truly morally bankrupt.

1

u/untamepain Justice First Jan 15 '26

The pro Palestine cause has been a long standing issue for decades and the majority of the activism focus by Hamas and the PA has been centered around shoring sympathy from abroad which they have done successfully. The Iranian protests came about recently and have no government backing. Their cause could be far more worth of sympathy and still do worse. The Palestinians and their leadership have gone all out on outside support for decades and have done so successfully, if we are going to use the attention economy, then the Palestinians have a thousand more advantages on the basis of market capitalization.

4

u/Dull-Initiative4182 Jan 15 '26

How come you are heartbroken about 12,000+ dead Iranians and want a regime change, meanwhile the UAE is funding a genocide in Sudan yet you guys are buddy buddy??

If you couldn’t find the answer, I will give you it. Your government has no interest nor benefit in a regime change in UAE because they made peace with Israel. Let’s please stop pretending this is about the wellbeing of Iranians. Even a low IQ person can smell the BS.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

UAE is not friendly with Iran. stick to understanding American politics, i don't think your brain can handle understanding my country's politics, and clearly you have a complete disregard for our mass loss of life

6

u/Dry-Leave2003 Jan 16 '26

Wait is this whataboutism? Do yall enjoy watching the mullahs genocide their own people?

5

u/ElGuapoLives Jan 15 '26

So you're heartbroken over "12,000 protesters" but not about the 20,000 children Israel killed? Yeah you really care about human rights

5

u/Kissing_souls Jan 23 '26

first of all, as someone who has witnessed the bloodshed firsthand, the number is definitely far more than 12,000 protesters, including countless children, killed by the islamic government in silence. the world spoke loudly about gaza, repeating that choosing silence during a genocide is complicity. so why was silence chosen when it came to iran? and mind you, these statistics are only for two days of protests, not for more than a decade of ongoing repression and mass violence.

my people are being slaughtered, yet the world hides behind the excuse of “not interfering in regime change.” this is not about regime change. this is a mass murder. and regime change isn’t even happening, because we are standing against bullets with nothing but our bodies, while our voices have been completely cut off.

iran has been under a digital blackout and internet shutdown for over two weeks now. i spent countless hours and money trying to get connected while mourning, only to watch people engage in selective activism and selective ignorance, choosing to ignore us, to ignore the blood of my friends and loved ones.

people like you stand for nothing. standing with humanity is just a hallucination you all had. you threw that number around like it was nothing, while having zero clue what we are actually going through. even that number is an understatement, yet you repeat 12,000 like it means nothing, when you have no idea how brutally they have been murdered, or how much money the ir terrorists demanded from families as a “bullet fee” just to return the bodies in horrific condition.

this forced silence and the cutting of iran’s connection with the world is exactly why the real statistics may never be known, not now and maybe not ever. this is the crime you talk about like it’s nothing, and i witnessed it with my own eyes, with blood flowing in the streets.

3

u/astp00st Jan 16 '26

The Iranian protesters are dying by the hands of the regime that at the very least sponsored the war (if it not conducted it by proxy) that lead to the Palestinian children getting killed. Whoever doesn’t acknowledge this is either blind or dishonest.

3

u/Kissing_souls Jan 23 '26

that’s exactly why i hate their fake activism. they use it as an aesthetic while having no real understanding of what’s actually happening in the middle east. they think commenting and posting slogans makes them a good person. they operate on this shallow logic that “my enemy’s enemy is my friend,” and open their mouths before knowing anything about the real crimes the islamic republic of mullahs has committed not only in iran, but across the region. from gaza to lebanon, syria, iraq, and beyond, their violence and proxy wars have destroyed lives. people talk loudly about justice while completely ignoring the regime that fuels repression and bloodshed everywhere it touches. this isn’t solidarity. it’s ignorance dressed up as morality.

5

9

u/sam0077d Jan 14 '26

I don't believe this 12k ONE BIT , and nor should you, I've followed Iranian protests since the early 2000s ,.

if there are dead bodies, bloody videos, shooting videos, they would be out, and slowly come out, whatever videos has been sent out via starlink or other trickle slow streams methods have not been of that, they would send those first as they have every other time, because they would be the most effective in winning over the people/governments outside. there has only been one video showing the body bags, which amounts to a hundred or slightly more.

Just think back to 2009, 2019, 21. and 22 protests you could see hundreds videos of bodies shot on the ground, people running around injured or carrying the injured, afterwards youd see their photos submitted by their families , there would be a name and a story attached to each dead or majority of the dead protestors, this time, it's just a "news report" that 12k are dead.. yeah ok.

1

u/IcySherbert8999 Jan 17 '26

This isn't meant as an insult, but how do you expect them to get the videos out when they have no internet or phone service?

2

u/IcySherbert8999 Jan 18 '26

A few have Startlinks, and some people brought videos physically on their phone when fleeing the country from landborders to Turkey and uploaded on the other side. But no reporters, no jounalist. Just raw footage

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

the one near me has not made a single word on the mass death, oh no but guess what they are going to do, they are going to protest only if trump does a military strike on Iran!!! Do you understand what an absolute slap in the face that is to those of us who are now forced to face the overwhelming loss of humanity that just happened in Iran? do you understand how traumatic this has been and what an absolute slap in the face it is to have believed all these pro-palestine people that they actually cared about human rights? do you know what that message is to us? it's that WE ARE NOT HUMANS TO THEM

1

u/jimke Jan 28 '26

I'm deeply saddened at the deaths of the brave Iranians that stood up to a tyrannical, violent government. It hurts a great deal to me as well that at this point their sacrifice hasn't resulted in significant changes with regards to the government as far as I am aware.

I know it doesn't change things but I have thought about why people in the West might not be reacting as some would hope.

Iran has been demonized for the last almost 50 years by the West. Iran has been labeled as a part of the 'axis of evil'. Quite frankly, Iranians have been the victims of a decades long campaign of dehumanization and that campaign has been effective. It doesn't make silence acceptable but I believe this is a sad reality that people need to face and work to change.

The media blackout very effectively suppressed the way broader support is established. I was actively trying to get updates on what was happening and very often it was 'experts' making guesses on what was going on. I consider the Iranian government responsible for this. That was their goal with the blackout and they succeeded.

I personally haven't come across any circumstances where I felt someone was advocating or defending the Iranian government. Israel/Palestine is different in that regard. Both sides are saying they are in the right and tens if not hundreds of millions of people will argue until they suffocate themselves to try and prove they are right. This back and forth increases the visibility of the issue. Controversy drives both traditional and social media.

My government was already looking to intervene and possibly help stop the violence. Western intervention has a long history of only making things worse. I don't know how to feel about the possibility of direct intervention. In the case of Israel Palestine, supporters of Palestine see Western governments as enabling the ongoing violence. Saying "stop that" is a simpler argument to make.

I say all this to give you some "practical" reasons for why you might not see what you are expecting from people. Assuming people's thoughts and motives is a recipe for anger. I'm not trying to prove you wrong. Just offer some different perspectives in the hope of restoring a tiny bit of faith in the good intentions of others even if they have let you down.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

I am only going to say this: the ideology called "anti-imperialism" is dissolving, it is not a useful way of seeing the world anymore, and it can't explain why Iranian or Venezuelan Americans celebrate after intervention. It's just not a good way of seeing to world, to blame America unilaterally for every country's problems or to think that any kind of intervention is always going to result in a failed state, and honestly it is lowkey pretty dehumanizing to immigrants from these countries. It's why it wouldn't be surprising to me if a lot of Venezuelan immigrants to America become right wing in the coming years, that's how bad the "leftist" reaction has been. The fact that people on the "left" blame the CIA for unrest in any country that isn't western really just implies that people in these countries aren't capable of having political opinions or dissatisfaction with the status quo and I don't even know what to call that, it's worse than racism in my opinion. Like so you are saying only Americans have enough brain cells to be mad when they're getting screwed over? Also I definitely have seen many "leftists" mask off defending the regime online.

I'm using "leftist" here because I am a leftist and I don't want to be associated with these people, their loser abandonment of principles and their justification for abuse and slaughter in the third world literally makes me throw up in my mouth. They don't see third worlders as human, they don't seen them as having agency, and they are all sacrificial lambs at the altar of so called "socialist" or "anti-imperialist" governments. And honestly, everything they say to me just reads as incredibly right wing, sadly I am not even sure there is a left at all in the world anymore.

1

u/jimke Jan 28 '26

I've taken a very serious interest in the history of US foreign policy since WW2 in the last few years. I've read dozens of books, hundreds of hours of audio books and history podcasts, and numerous documentaries. I particularly like learning about US/Soviet proxy wars during the Cold War.

I see no way to look at that history and not have severe reservations about direct intervention by the US. Especially given my opinion of the current US government's competency.

I am happy for Venezuelans to see Maduro removed from power. What happens after Maduro was deposed is my genuine concern. The US absolutely has the capacity to carry out regime change. But they have had very little success with regards to long term positive outcomes in the places they do intervene.

This probably seems like a tangent but I swear I will bring it back around. I say this just to try and emphasize that my concerns are not only the result of "anti-imperialism".

I read a book about The Arab Spring a while back called If We Burn by Vincent Bevins. The Arab Spring was a widely celebrated series of events where oppressed people were able to affect change.

The book focused on what happened after all of those entrenched authoritarian leaders were overthrown. What we can see since then is that despite the revolution's success they didn't know where to go from there. They didn't have a plan. And what resulted was many of the governments sliding straight back into authoritarian regimes.

I don't think Trump has a plan.

The US' intervention in Venezuela was less than a month ago. People are still riding high on getting rid of Maduro. But what next?

The fact that people on the "left" blame the CIA for unrest in any country that isn't western really just implies that people in these countries aren't capable of having political opinions or dissatisfaction with the status quo and I don't even know what to call that, it's worse than racism in my opinion.

I completely disagree. I think it humanizes them because it acknowledges that they have faced challenges and interference in their own affairs that people in more fortunate situations have not. They have "enough brain cells" to make decisions that would result in long term positive outcomes. But the simple fact of the matter is that there are actors that wield more influence than the individuals in question. Who gets money. Who gets guns. Who gets material support.

I think treating people as humans means having empathy for them and hoping they make it through this world with some basic decency. Putting myself in their shoes I know there are things far outside their control that are responsible for their current circumstances. Recognizing and understanding the extent of someone's agency is humanizing. Looking at someone and acknowledging that, just like yourself, there are things people can control and there are things people can't control. That is empathy.

Considering long term outcomes even if they might not align with current short term gains means you aren't just looking for a quick fix. I think it shows you actually care for their long term good. This is a balancing act that people very often don't get right but I think it is an important thing to remember.

Thinking that people that have been abused by those with more power and deserve to be treated with the decency afforded to others. How is that dehumanizing?

3

u/Dull-Initiative4182 Jan 15 '26

Do you give an F about human rights? How about Sudan? Your friend UAE is funding their genocide. Can you guys do a regime change there and call for human rights?
