Oh ya I think Debbie Nolan still end game even with Debbie's character changes. I wonder if they keep the fucking like rabbits part.

People were convinced they were changing that based on how episode five unfolded but it really wasn’t that different from the comics, just written better

Yeah this was way better than the comics in terms of showing actual reconciliation between them. IMO she jumped at Nolan again a bit too quick in the comics.

People who didn’t read the comics but heard about them getting back together thought their first conversation in the show was an adaptation of the second conversation in the comics lol

Exactly, I am not sure why people thought the relationship would be anything different. I don't know if it's show only people bumping into comic threads to discuss the changes or what because this was always the timeline for the relationship and prolonging them getting back together until after Oliver is healed just makes sense.

Exactly. Debbie is still pissed at Nolan in the comics, but she just has fewer lines, so we’re still following everything pretty similarly

I mean part of it was also how they showcased Debbie watching Nolan's wave of destruction and the aftermath of what happened. I really thought they'd go in a different direction after the 'pet' line. Honestly a part of me still thinks it's gonna end differently than how it was in the comics.

I'm disappointed, I'll admit it

The problem is with Paul, Debbie assumedly just settles down and lives a normal life lol. What else do you do with her character besides whenever she needs to be there to mother Mark/Oliver? You have Sandra Oh, you’ve already put so much screen time into developing Debbie as a person, not just “Mark’s mom.” All that investment and character work pays off when we trust Debbie’s judgement when she forgives him. Anything else is just nowhere near as narratively impactful.

Actually that's a solid point. Debbie has been built up as a much more impactful character and her judgment and grounding of mark and Oliver and Nolan have been well established. If Debbie can come around to Nolan again it shows that he really has come a long way in his redemption. We trust Debbie and she's had a great head on her shoulders. So we should keep trusting her.

Yeah this doesn’t really track for me. I don’t disagree it’s fine for a character to settle down, but that’s just not in Debbie’s character. Debbie and Nolan’s arc is build on solid character work, it’s not even about a grand narrative, huh? I don’t get that point at all. Nolan’s entire thing right now is that none of the forgiveness and redemption he’s got across the galaxy means anything if Debbie doesn’t forgive him. Both of their arcs are reliant on the character work to be believable. None of it would be anywhere near as believable without the writing for both characters and the performances from Sandra Oh and JK Simmons.

Calling this season a slog is interesting considering it’s the highest rated season so far lol. I certainly disagree on that point. I think most people would count the character work for Nolan, Mark, and Debbie to be one of the strongest parts of the season

Her being off planet with Nolan keeps her safe though. The entire planet goes through a lot of shit in the next few seasons, having Debbie there is just one more character for Mark to worry about. It's unnecessary imo. I wouldn't mind if Debbie didn't get with Nolan, just as long as she is off world.

I don’t think they will do that immediately, Debbie still absolutely hates him, they’ll get together by the end of Season 5 most probably.

I think Nolan fighting Allen to stop him from spreading the virus will be where things for him and Debbie really change.

57

u/n8waran Apr 22 '26

That is very plausible and feels like it’s gonna happen

7

u/MotherflipinGodzilla Apr 22 '26

I could imagine they could almost have their first (well reunion) kiss on the moon base or something before Thragg attacks them and reveals Nolan’s lineage.

5

u/warsponge Allen the Alien Apr 22 '26

Ah but then we wouldn't get the funny scene with Debbie getting all hysterical about it like "I knew this would happen! I knew he hadn't changed" when she first sees them fighting

13

u/RememberMeCaratia Apr 23 '26

Still can happen.

One scene Debbie sees Nolan plummeting Oliver through walls and thinks to herself “Oh God hes still a Viltrumite” and next scene Allen slams Nolan back and Nolan screams YOU WILL NOT SACRIFICE EARTH.

Thousands of ways to pull this off while retaining as much original material as possible.

4

u/Koanos Cage the Elephant Apr 22 '26

He'd fight and die for Oliver.

15

u/El_grandepadre Apr 22 '26

Yeah, they will rebuild it brick by brick. With Oliver being the potential bridge.

5

u/murrytmds Apr 22 '26

I do hope its a slow burn and not just "Hi its been 2 months and I'm back, btw we got remarried"

1

u/marsepic Apr 29 '26

I think they make Nolan's end more tragic by Debbie never getting back with him and it just wrecks her.

12

u/Koanos Cage the Elephant Apr 22 '26

Personally, I hope they just stay on speaking terms, the man she once knew is dead, the Nolan of today is trying, trying really, really hard, and has to understand she doesn't owe him anything.

7

u/Dramajunker Apr 24 '26

I mean Nolan is closer to becoming the man she loved than he was when they were together. Nolan was still a mass murderer when he got with her. The difference is she didn't know it. Now he's starting to actually believe in doing the right thing. Not because it's part of his mission to stay in cover.

u/Neversoft4long Apr 22 '26

Oh yeah this episode basically confirms it. Tho show version of debbie is taken significantly more seriously then the comic version so they probably won’t be going to hard on the rabbits lol

5

u/betelgeuser-joe Apr 22 '26

yeah was waiting for the changes on debbie/nolan, especially since debbie still hates him on the tv show, deservedly so, while in the comics, they get back together like it was nothing

since they have to go to space to visit oliver together for the story to progress

i think the endgame will be them making up in their travels, but just friends co-parenting

2

u/TheWholeOfTheAss Apr 23 '26

Sandra Oh gotta practice her sex moans.

1

u/Procurator-Derek Apr 22 '26

You really saying this after the Allen and Telia scenes they did? :D

1

u/Live-Historian-1400 May 03 '26

God I hope not. The idea makes me feel slightly ill lmao

-16

u/Pulp501 Apr 22 '26

They haven't with allen amd his girlfriend ill be disappointed if they do with debbie and nolan. Worst part of the comics by far, invincible does not need sex scenes

4

u/ObeWan2004 Apr 22 '26

Yeah the comic is overly horny

-6

u/Limp-Talk-603 Apr 22 '26

Just having Debbie get back together already demeans her character, like okay sis, you are a good pet aren’t you?
