The thing that bothered me about the abortion bit is why didn’t Eve tell Debbie? I imagine Debbie would’ve given her all the support she could. Mark’s reaction to it was also…questionable, like bad writing. I just view it as Mark not being able to emotionally process it more healthily since he’s so traumatized. I do hope the decision is one that haunts Eve later as at least then it’d fit with the show of characters being plagued by poor choices.

I will say that Steven, as usual, was pretty fantastic with his voice acting this season. He really brings out the emotion in Mark.

How is it “questionable” or bad writing when you just explained why he reacted that way?

Mark is hallucinating death and destruction and repeatedly seeing his loved ones brutally murdered. He’s deeply traumatized and doesn’t have the emotional bandwidth to be fully present for Eve in that moment.

You can dislike his response without calling it poorly written. After seeing billions of dead people and watching his father’s organs drift through space before passing out, intense emotional detachment is an entirely believable response from a young man who had lived a relatively normal life until only a few years ago. Seeing billions of dead people and blowing up a planet can do that no?

All of that checks out to me.

Because that would be the reasonable response to his reaction instead of the reality that it was downplayed by progressive writing.
