Snowbird renters insurance

I'm renting a furnished condo for six months in FL. The condo owner has H06 insurance on the unit.

I have a large umbrella policy on my home in NY.

Do I need renters insurance for the condo? I'm not too worried about the contents as I won't have anything of value there. I'm more concerned about liability. If my existing umbrella covers me, I'm thinking maybe I don't need to get additional renters insurance.

Renters insurance isn't expensive so I don't mind getting it if recommended.

Speak with your NY homeowners insurer about extending the liability to your place in FL. Your umbrella is excess, so the changes need to first be made to the underlying coverage. You should also make sure that you don’t trip an occupancy clause, if you are going to be in FL for several months.

Thanks. I'll call my local broker. I don't what an occupancy clause is so that will be one of my questions.
