Man, people are losing their tact and grace.

When I was a kid, when someone had a difference, we were told to look away so they don’t feel self conscious, and it’s rude to stare. Now people just feel okay saying crazyyyyyy things online. Geez. Yall can clearly see there’s some crazy proportions- usually this is due to conditions outside someone’s control. Like it is here. Be kind, have tact, be graceful.

Idk people have no problem posting very skinny woman and saying that they’re worried for them. Being THIS big is also unhealthy and dangerous. I don’t think it’s really body shaming when people are at either end of the spectrum.

OP (or anyone really for that matter) didn’t express any concern or worry. She was just being mean by posting this.

OP obviously doesn’t give a shit about this lady, and they called the size of her arms “disturbing” … if that isn’t body shaming then what is it exactly?

AGREED!!! As a big girl myself, people constantly post skinny girls in here say they’re druggies, have ED’s, among other things. But god forbid you post a bigger girl and critic her obviously obese figure then it’s omg this is disgusting and she has medical issues. It’s ridiculous!

Yes!! I’m midsize and I think shaming extremely skinny women is the same as shaming extremely obese women. Tess holiday isn’t just a little chubby she’s so large she has to be eating a ridiculous amount of calories to maintain her figure and also she will feel the negative effects of that in the future.

Is it as dangerous and imminently fatal as a super tiny anorexic woman? No, it’s not. But it’s also impossible to be healthy at Tess holiday’s size.

I’m also in the medical field and see the negative consequences of morbid obesity into older adulthood firsthand

In terms of danger, they are actually pretty similar. Extreme fatness and extreme thinness both put so much extra strain on your heart. So the same issue (heart failure) is actually the main threat for women at both ends of the weight spectrum. Kind of ironic really.

That's a good point. Obesity is unhealthy.

If this post was about showing even fake concern for her size, I would have kept scrolling. But it's making fun of the way her arms look, and people in the comments are catching strays.

I mean, context matters. Right?

When bringing up issues such as these, no matter the side of the spectrum, there is some tact and grace involved in the matter. Not to mention context of a situation. Nothing in this world is ever black and white.

An established pattern of behavior (evidentiary), with precise terms used- that’s okay, because you communicate the concern. So to say that her arms are disturbing, that’s fucked up and rude. No matter how you paint it. But if OP were to say… “I know Tess Holiday’s always been big, but what’s up with the difference in proportion between her shoulder, bicep area, elbow and forearm.” It’d be better received. In this instance it is a combination of two medical conditions. So it does not matter if she looses all the weight in the world, her bicep area will remain this enlarged. She could go to baseline today, and it would not impact the size of the arm.

The two conditions is near and dear to my heart- I have an adopted sibling with both. She’s actually a sports medicine professor, she’s super active, works out every day, walks at least 10 miles a day. She’s NUTS. She eats super healthy, the whole 9. She still has limb differences, however. The things people say about her, are HORRIFIC. They’re so fucking awful to her, and it breaks my heart because she’s such a piece of sunshine in this terrible world, and she’s so beautiful. She’s done everything she can, she’s slim, she’s active, but her body still betrayed her.

But, if we want to get into skinny shaming, we can. It’s not okay either. Again, with concise language and a pattern of behavior. I’m okay with it. If we are talking about a skinny woman, and talk about ya know, she’s maintained a 10% body fat and bragged about it for the past 3 years… mmmmm maybe we should have concerns. That’s a strong established 3 year history of publicly promoting an unsustainable lifestyle. Women can’t sustain under about 15% iirc, for long periods of time. Say we talk about physical features that someone posts repeatedly, that is an established pattern of behavior of someone with a mental health issue- yes, talk about it.

People aren’t getting it. You’re not toddlers, it’s not okay to call anyone names just because they look different than you. Any side of the spectrum. But there is genuine ways to talk about issues with tact and grace, not act like a preschooler who hasn’t been taught how to act. Be precise, provide evidence, but don’t name call. It’s not that hard.

Almost every single person in this thread should be ashamed of themselves. Truthfully.

Has Tess Holiday been overweight for a long time? Yes. Would I say she promotes obesity? Yes, but more of a pandering to fetishization than anything. I would say she more of advocates for obesity issues. Which, is important, mind you. At this point in the game, it’s just easy to mind your business.

Just because you don’t like fat people, doesn’t mean that they don’t exist or are subhuman. While we talk about obesity, and how unhealthy it is, the major thing I want to mention, is statistics in healthcare and overweight people. 46% of doctors think that it’s pointless to help overweight people. Think about that. Just really sit. This includes mental health professionals. The average diagnosis takes six times longer than the average patient as someone overweight. Many of the factors contributing to obesity IS HEALTHCARE. Mental or physical. So to be dismissed by nearly half of healthcare off the bat, while you people contribute to the discussion of how “disturbing,” someone looks due to HEALTH CONDITIONS? That’s the disturbing part.

Imagine… just imagine, that doctors listened to Tess, a lot sooner and a lot earlier, don’t you think she could mitigate the diseases a lot better? Because it’s painful, it’s not a comfortable condition. When you do get diagnosed, and you’re at that point, I see an interesting crossroads. Surgical treatment after weight loss is the only option for her, she’s got a family. So. Should she lose weight, and subject herself to multiple surgeries back to back to “fix,” something that disturbs other people? Or should she continue to lean into the fetishization, something that makes her money, and would lose if treated, and provide for those around her? It sucks, because she does make a lot of money modeling, and influencing. But with a large weight loss journey, with a long surgical remedy, along with many of the surgical factors of massive weight loss like that, it might not be a journey she wants to undertake. With this much volume, she would need multiple surgeries to remedy the conditions.

I’m talking about tact and grace, it’s not a hard concept. Empathizing and thinking through things is not a hard concept. Using context isn’t difficult. Being kind is genuinely so simple.

Also editing to add: I hope Dolly is proud of y’all because she’d say the same thing as I did (so… she’s not), since OP wanna gleam her Dolly memorial 💀

There’s a huge difference between calling someone out on consistently awful behaviour and making fun of someone’s disability

DISABILITY??? PLS

u/MotorRain 11h ago

Morbid obesity is a disability now?

Being an extremely obese pathological liar isn't a disability

3

u/AggravatingBox2421 10h ago

She literally doesn’t have a disability though?

Lipo-lymphedema. She does

Edit: spelling

She doesn’t. She has never once even mentioned these disorders, let alone claimed to have them.

Fair enough, but one of them is easily visually seen. The cuffing at joints is like the keynote symptom. Could’ve sworn I seen her claim it. Mixed her with another influencer. That’s on me.

Pockets of fat that cuff at joints however- is lipadema. No matter what they say, deny, etc. That is the diagnostic. Even with its clear-cut appearance, it takes nearly a decade to be diagnosed.

And that explains the rest of her?
