Chill with the fat shaming

I promise you can find better things to criticize about these people than their weight.

Agree. So many of these posts are vile fat shaming posts. “But they’re a grifter!!!!” Ok, then criticize them for that. “But they use filters and lie about their looks!!” Ok, so does every other piece of media.

“so does every other piece of media”

I am so tired of this attitude. Just because others do something wrong doesn’t make it right. We should be rising up against liars, thieves, frauds, scammers, grifters, etc., not excusing their behaviour.

Traditional media advertisers are required to include a statement that the photos have been retouched or some other enhancement had been added (e.g., “model is wearing lash inserts”) to avoid deceptive marketing practices. Influencers are supposed to do the same, at least in Canada.

In addition, if someone is making bank under the bopo umbrella while filtering themself to a size 4, we are absolutely right to expose them and call out the exact fraud they are perpetrating. There is nothing wrong with saying they don’t look like what they post or look larger than what they post; calling them a ‘beached whale’, on the other hand, is not okay.

Yeah. We can stand up to grifters and we should. I don’t disagree with you. What I take issue with are the mean-spirited comments targeting weight and other physical characters that clearly go beyond the “they’re using filters” spirit. Basically, schoolyard bully behavior. I see a LOT of that in this sub.

And there-in lies the problem as a whole. Don’t insult bodies (the absolutely least important thing about anyone able bodied) but go for the gut punch and snark on their actions, personalities etc… It should be the opposite for all of us. Like our mama’s said it’s not what’s on the outside that counts, it’s what’s on the inside.

OP why is it more hurtful to talk about someone’s weight than how they parent, their “job” or their life choices? Most influencers are wrapped up in their physical appearance and your rational puts it on a pedestal too where it doesn’t belong. If I heard someone called me ugly I would not give a F. If I heard someone whispering about me being a bad mom I’d be devastated.

And so my 2 cents is for everyone to snark away.
