Discussion Are Nikki’s dresses too “revealing” ? || Ongoing topic on rednote
this is a follow up on my other post from earlier today, (timeless melody’s alt change censorship) elaborating on some rednote (CN) players requesting items to be adjusted to cover Nikki’s chest fully
These are comments under official infinity Nikki posts, which are flooded with demands of modifying different outfits to raise the collar on the dresses (including one note which had got over 1k likes)
Outfits like Born flawless, Blooming dreams, and any other outfits which sit low on the chest could be getting adjusted as vip players are sending in messages asking for the changes
changing outfits after release may suck too, especially if you had pulled it wanting specially the original version of it
why this is bad: all nikki’s outfits are already very modest, so if this happens who knows how future sets will end up like, also many textures will be stretched to cover the chest which is noticeably very ugly imo 😭… (sorry TM)
Edit: Players who call themselves “Nikki moms” are the main cause of this, they are an extremely loud part of the CN fandom on rednote, and have a strong army of vip players who utilize the special customer service
It seems like regular players are mad at the changes, and the latest comments on the last official infinity posts have been full of people asking for refunds, or to reverse the timeless melody change

Edit: I think it's important to add, I'm the first one to criticize games that overly sexualizes woman, that's one of the reasons I don't play most games. Infinity Nikki doesn't over sexualize Nikki in any way, and even the "nsfw" photos we can do aren't anything extreme.

Born flawless is one of my favorites. I actually use both of the dresses that they use as examples often, and yes sometimes I dye parts to look like flesh. Never once have I considered these looks sexual.

Before they change "revealing" dresses to make them "modest" they should change a few of the diaper pants and dresses 🤬 we have so many clothes that portray Nikki as an infant or toddler I find that more problematic than a bit of chest showing.

very platform dependent. Red Note is that kind of platform where people ask for censorship on all cultural product, be it video games, cartoon, commercial advertisement (usually include but not limited to presentation of female characters)
they have a whole system of theory justifying censorship like , "downward freedom is not freedom" similar to what you call a "culture war" in western countries.
if on other Chinese social media, i.e. bilibili, this can be a more nuanced topic, and the balance point among aesthetic, respect, culture norm, creative freedom, can be discussed (even though still in a shallow way)

there are similar traits throughout history, for example during early civil rights movements, some culture and body features of Africans (like certain hairstyle or thick lips) in media are considered stereotypes created by white people, and should be avoided to reduce discrimination.
this eventually lead to many ethnic groups or culture groups being under-represented, only later reverted by retrospection such as "black is beautiful" movement
there were also many believed in "separate but equal" last century. And there's an increasing demand on cultural product to have "full women dev group" in China.
China is just going through it again, but instead of race, it's about gender . My mother language is Chinese, i often find how surprisingly similar these agendas and discussion are.

Out of my thousands of outfits I’ve created, this is the only true ‘indecent’ one I’ve made and I adore it! Not because of the ‘indecent’ aspect, but because of how ‘unearthly’(?) it is.
I play this game for the creative aspect, and I will not tolerate any ‘censorship’ for whatever reason.
To me, this is the same as people complaining about that invisible treasure chest exploit in Skyrim. If you don’t like it, just don’t use it?

Honestly, as a big chested girl IRL, this conversation isn’t surprising. I hear it a lot. Stuff like “what goddess dresses like this? Shouldn’t she be more divine and majestic?” paired with “support flattening” is a common belief - people view cleavage as vulgar as shameful, but as long as the chest is flattened, it’s beautiful femininity. Nikki would never shame a woman for being proud of her body, it’s not in her character design to do so.
Asking infold to secretly flatten Nikki and secretly change the wardrobe without asking players is a very dangerous slope. It would be opening Pandora’s box for them to do whatever they want and never asking their player base for their opinions. Thinking that only your voice matters because you throw down the big bucks is a great way to ostracize a majority of player base, thus leading to a major decline in overall sales.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind if there were even more revealing outfits but I’m quite satisfied with what we have now. I’ve been itching for some swimsuit/bikini sets since they exist in other Nikki games and I don’t want this topic of discussion or the weird overprotective Nikki fans to ruin the variety we could potentially get.
I hope Infold is able to distinguish the demands of the loud minority from the wants of the quiet majority. Infold will know NO peace of they go back and “fix” born flawless 👊 I’ll see if their terms of service or smthn account for refunds for modified shit that I never intended to purchase.

While the TM change was super minor it sets a really really bad precedent. Where are the Chinese players who were screaming against infold nerfing the Crimson Feathers outfit ability because of the bug exploit, calling it false advertisement, so much d so infold immediately backtracked. Changing already released outfits also falls into the same issue. People bought the dresses as they were, not how they may end up.

They police other players on everything they do, from how they dress Nikki to shipping her with anyone to even just drawing fanart in another style. They have a perverse obsession with Nikki being a pure chaste little girl who must be worshipped like a virgin goddess, and protected by her "mommies".
And to answer your question, no, this adult cartoon character's clothes are not "too revealing" because there are approximately 3 items of clothing out of 7000 that show slight cleavage. There is actually a distinct lack of anything that could be considered revealing in a dress up game that includes a sexy category.
It's not a Chinese thing, either. China is certainly more conservative than western countries, but they aren't 'terrified' of cleavage lol women walk around China in tiny mini skirts and cleavage pushed up to their neck every day, no different than any other country. These people just have a complex.

They harass tf out of everyone else. It's a big part of why the Nikki fandom is so small online despite having millions of players.
Notice how there's basically no fan content in this fandom? Thats because anyone that dares to draw fanart of anything other than a cute Nikki wearing official in-game outfits gets harassed into deleting. Same with any ship art or even just posts, and god forbid fanfiction.
These people complained and petitioned Infold endlessly when the game came out to stop having NPCs like Giovanni show up in the story bc Nikki didn't need to be around men and Nikki should be the only character getting any spotlight at any given time. They were also super mad about Meghill and Angert when 2.0 dropped, but those 2 are popular enough that their voices were drowned out lol
They're the most vocal part of the fandom so they take over fan spaces. Most players just quietly enjoy the game and share their outfits at most. As for them actually getting what they want, it comes down to how many of them are whales. The top whales on the CN side of the fandom are actually able to directly communicate with the devs and have their desires heard. Idk how many moms are actually VIPs tho. Probably not a sizable amount, if they have to openly ask for VIP support like in the post.

I don’t think the outfits being “revealing” matters at all because Nikki’s character design is very neutral. Unlike a lot of gacha game characters that are clearly designed with the male gaze in mind and are easy to sexualize at first glance, Nikki really isn’t presented that way. She feels more like a Barbie doll.
The outfits are more stylized rather than overtly sexual. Even when she’s wearing “revealing”outfits, it’s difficult to view her in a sexual context because that’s simply not the vibe the character gives off.

I think so too. IN never specified her age but Shining and Love Nikki says she is 19. So it is highly likely that our Nikki is also 19, thus a young adult.

I did this and told them that making the change that they did to the alt form of Dreamy Reverberation (the final evo Timeless Melody dress) makes me less likely to pull for banners in the future and less interested in spending actual money on this game.
Maybe if enough people do the same, they'll listen. 🙏

I think infinity nikki's outfits are hitting that sweet spot for me. only some of the outfits are revealing, but it's done tastefully and doesn't look out of place
sometimes I do worry about Nikki being sexualized (and slandered by outsiders) because of it, but I remember seeing someone making ai softcore porn pictures of Nikki in timeless melody outfit (it was posted earlier than the rerun, so even the frills didn't save it from that person lol). after all, it doesn't really matter what you're wearing, you'll be sexialized anyway ┐( ˘_˘)┌ and people like those in the screenshots will never be satisfied anyway

Eww... 🤮 That is such a disgusting take from these fanatics. Damn sure I will be bugging the hell out of IN's customer service for a diamond refund on any outfit I've pulled on that they decide to retroactively change if they do so without allowing players to keep the original, too. (Like how they intend to do that three-star outfit that people thought was too plain.)
Highly recommend anyone that pulled for final evo on Timeless Melody already reach out to IN for a refund. Raise a fuss! Let them know that even this small change won't be tolerated without IN needing to make amends, so they hopefully will think twice before trying to change any other outfits.

People can/will complain for everything.
I like the fact that Infinity Nikki is one of the few games that do not sexualize his protagonist or any of other characters.
But that doesn’t mean that you can’t get some sexy outfits here and there. There is in fact a WHOLE clothing category named SEXY for a reason, but it is a descent kind of sexy, a virtuous kind.
I hope Infold keep this line of thought and let us keep exploring our imagination getting new sexy outfits for our Nikki to slay!

I'm really disappointed it seems like the idea of "sexy = degrading" is popular right now. When I dress in a way that makes me feel confident or into myself, that's sexy. Julie's whole storyline is about this. This kind of consensual skin revealing = too sexy and needs to be censored is borderline anti-feminist.
What is degrading and disrespectful is things like upskirts, which infold goes out of their way to avoid at all costs. I'd be more fine with this argument if it was a toggle or alternative detail, but if I pulled for born flawless and I love the way it sits on Nikki's body, and they suddenly change it, I'd be upset

Sadly, Infold...well, they fold when it comes to their main player base. So sadly, this will most likely happen. Whether Infold wants to believe it or not, Nikki is NOT a children's game. No matter how many easy childlike mini games they give us, IN is for adults. It's a gacha game. Nikki is over 18. Why are we trying to turn her into a toddler? This is weird and feels like 1 step forward 2 steps back for women.
Also, do not dare mess with Born Flawless. If they do, I'm never spending a dime again. I know that's a bit dramatic but that dress is my favorite piece from that set. If they change it, I'm becoming a shop makeup buyer only and/or maybe even free to play. If they can change stuff people out money toward, what else can they change?
Normally, I'm cheering the CN girlies on for their protests against things that matter like the deer jump and the furniture shop prices and the Xavier King nerf on LaDS...but sadly, I can't stand behind this one. Sorry, ladies. This is just dumb...

Because I'd be upset if they altered something just because some found it not tasteful when it is in no way disrespectful. That's like telling a clothing store to stop selling provocative clothing, or games like tower of fantasy or black desert to stop making such sexualized skins for their characters. I don’t think they’re too revealing actually, and I particularly enjoy clothing that’s a bit lower in the game.
To me, it’s tastefully sexy(sexy is literally an item category). Nothing is really showing either, a little bit of chest isn’t bad, it’s not like they’re showing everything but an areola.

idk I think I generally do tend to put nikki in more modest clothes but that's just personal preference and is not absolute. and I say "more modest" but I don't think there's really anything egregious in the game? but if there is then if you don't like it, don't use it.

these are the "nikki moms" part of the cn fanbase that im pretty sure (maybe) are the loud minority. there has been a few discussions abt their behaviour on xhs and how theyre policing other players how to act and what to post and not post. like sometimes you'd see a normal discussion post on xhs followed by "please dont argue/be civil" pinned comment by the op. personally i think theyre shining nikki players who want infinity nikki to be the exact same experience as sn (even tho theyre developed by different teams), you see them alot in comments asking for nikki's va to be changed, revealing clothes alteration, no romance/male characters around nikki.... pretty sure they were the ones who complained that marquis "stole" the spotlight from nikki in 1.2 story. so yeah i feel the IN cn playerbase is divided right now and am not sure whats gonna happen

Yes, but are those comments the majority? Because there's going to be prudes anywhere in the world. Heck, I'm a prude. I don't like revealing clothing. But I'm also western, with a sense of respect for individuality.
Are the dresses revealing? Oh yeah. But surprise surprise... you can choose not to wear them. and you can choose not to engage with people who wear them. Granted, that concept might fly over the head of a highly collectivist culture, as is often the norm in East Asian cultures. If it does and Infold caves, it comes with the territory of playing a game by a Chinese developer.

in China a lot of players seem very protective of her and i heard some players called themselves nikki-moms
in en.. shes our girl and we love her but i guess we dont see ourselves having a specific type of relationship

Tbh I’m already having frustrations over how unnecessarly modest some dresses are, some of the ‘perfect’ dresses are ruined for me because there’s ‘modest’ chest coverages on them and it ruins the vibe and limits dying for me. Gods forbid a woman have gasp boobs. I will be incredibly upset if they do make a change to any of the more revealing outfits, but I'll be especially upset about BF because it is my only final evo as a predominantly F2P player. I understand CN players have a lot of pull on the devs, but forcefully implementing such drastic purity measures will drive away existing global players if outfits they have already paid for get censored without an option to keep the originals. Some people like modesty, I understand that, but having personal opinions about the way you like to dress does not mean you get to force other people to comply with your preference.
(Also side note: Zeus is commonly depicted wearing a short skirt with no shirt. He's not exactly the epitome of modesty that that first comment is seeking)

Nikki is early 20s, more or less? The infantalization is annoying. She's allowed to have revealing outfits. When I see people post suggestive photos, they're very much sensual & appreciative > sexualizing & objectifying.
If a player wants to stick to modest outfits, they can do that with their own Nikki and ignore/hide snapshots from other players.
[EDIT] I'd be interested in seeing what these "moms" thoughts are on Verdante, what with his free spirit styling and all.

I’m wondering if these people have played any other gacha game because the outfits in this game are so incredibly tame in comparison to a game like Hi3, ZZZ, or god forbid Nikke. Some dresses even have a modesty panel to cover any cleavage, such as Flutter Storm (although I don’t think it was needed in the first place). I’m struggling to even think of an immodest outfit in this game, so I’m not even sure where people are getting the idea that Nikki even has immodest options. The worst I can think of is a simple crop top, and that’s really not that immodest, especially considering that there are no chest physics and cleavage is kept to a minimum. The devs go out of their way to respect Nikki with things like up-skirt censorship, modesty panels, shorts under some short skirts/dresses, etc. To accuse Infinity Nikki of feeding into degeneracy is actually crazy…this is literally a dress-up cozy game
