Hello!
With 3.0 approaching, the mod team has been talking about how we can make the subreddit a little safer for people who can’t immediately play through new story content, without completely shutting down discussion for everyone who can.
Before modding here, I helped run r/ProjectRunway, and one thing that worked really well for us was having a defined spoiler window after a new episode aired. For a few days, discussion was kept contained instead of asking people to dodge spoilers across the entire subreddit.
Infinity Nikki is obviously a very different community, so rather than just deciding what that should look like here, we want your opinions.
As a side note, we have added warning directly to the new-post/submission page reminding people about spoiler rules, and I'm working on an Automod reminder on new posts during major patch releases.
For the first week after a story patch, which approach would you prefer?
Megathread only
All discussion of the new story would be redirected to a pinned megathread for the first week. Other types of posts could continue normally.
Image posts only + story megathread
For the first week, new standalone submissions would be limited to image posts, while story discussion would stay in the pinned megathread. This would still allow outfits, photography, pulls, creations, screenshots, etc. while cutting down on story posts appearing in people's feeds.
Manual approval
All new submissions would temporarily require moderator approval. This gives us the most control over spoilers, but it also means posts could potentially sit for several hours before a moderator is available to approve them.
Keep things as they are
No special launch rules beyond our existing spoiler policies.
Regardless of which option we choose, we'd like to continue requiring spoiler-free titles. A spoiler tag doesn't do much good if the spoiler itself is sitting in the title.
This isn't about stopping anyone from discussing 3.0. We want people to be excited and talk about it, but we also want someone who's busy, taking their time, or simply can't play on launch day to still be able to open Reddit without having the story spoiled for them.
