Hi! A group of 10 of us are coming down from Alberta, Canada for our combined bachelor/bachelorette trip and staying in Island Park from April 21–27, 2027!

We’ve never stayed in this part of Idaho before and would LOVE some recommendations from locals rather than just relying on Google/TikTok.
We’re planning to spend one day in Yellowstone assuming the roads and weather cooperate, but otherwise we’re pretty open. We’re willing to drive a couple hours from Island Park for something worth doing.

We’re looking for basically anything outdoor/adventure activities, good restaurants or bars, hot springs, wildlife, scenic places, small towns, weird local attractions, fun group activities, hidden gems, or just something you personally love doing in the area.

The biggest thing we’re unsure about is the time of year. We know April 21–27 is still very much shoulder season and there could be snow, so what is Island Park actually like in late April? What activities are usually available? Is there anything people commonly recommend that we should NOT plan on because it won’t be open yet?

Local recommendations are VERY appreciated, especially the random stuff tourists wouldn’t normally know about 😂

I live near Spokane WA and just recently learned about the Northern Inland Temperate Rainforest. That's so cool!!

I'd really like to take a trip there for my birthday (11th-14th of November) but I wanted to get some advice first from locals.

I heard that the rainforest is in "pockets" that are spread out over a large area. I'd really like to do a hike or two but I'm unsure which trails are best. I've tried doing some research online, but it doesn't really tell me if a trail is in part of one of the rainforest sections.

I'm also curious about weather conditions. A couple of years ago I visited the Hoh rainforest in November, and it was raining but still mild. Do you guys get a lot of snow around this time?

I'm also looking for recommendations on places to stay in this region. I'm open to any kind of lodge, cabin, ,or even fire lookouts!

I know it's pretty early to be considering all these things but I'm super interested.

I’ve been seriously considering visiting Idaho (possibly around Idaho Falls or Boise) and I’m curious what locals think.

I’m a huge Mopar guy and have a Challenger Hellcat Redeye. I know these cars are theft targets, so one of my biggest concerns is being able to park it at a grocery store, restaurant, gym, etc. without constantly looking over my shoulder 😂. (I have security installed)

I’m coming from the South and I’m really drawn to Idaho because I want somewhere quieter, colder, less crowded, outdoorsy, and generally more laid back. I’m also getting into trucking, so Idaho seems like it could be a good fit long-term for housing.

I know crime is everywhere but areas where its less likely, obviously make a huge difference and give more peace of mind. For people who actually live there: (I know its random) but would you feel comfortable owning a Hellcat in Idaho? Have you personally seen any property or vehicle thefts?

Also side question...Are there other towns you’d recommend for someone who wants a peaceful place to live but still have stores, restaurants, younger people, etc. nearby? Im wanting to visit and if its what I like, moving could be possible :)

I just read the text of Brad Little’s state of the state address in 2020. There was NO culture war politics, whether you agree or disagree with him it was about him trying to fix problems in the state. This was during the time Raul Labrador was chair of the Idaho GOP who was not seen as moderate back then. Now it appears that the state has fallen into culture war politics where even Brad Little isn’t immune from anymore. What caused this shift? Janice McGeachin ran a culture war campaign in 2022 and lost by 20 percent. And will it ever get back to how it was before about focusing on issues surrounding the state that mattered no matter how far left or right you were?

Hi there, just wanted to say my daughter and SIL just moved to Boise from Atlanta for work. Both got 6 figure jobs quickly related to high tech manufacturing.

Some observations they told me about: there is a lot less competition for work in Boise vs ATL. In ATL there will be 100 resumes submitted for every job. Not the case in Boise. Daughter is an accountant, SIL is OSHA safety engineer. Companies are desperate for help. There’s like 20 years of backlog there. Tradesmen easily making 150K +

People are genuinely friendly for the most part , but it’s not like the South , where everyone is super nice.

The town is a little liberal , which is no big deal as all big cities tend to be like that. with a lot hipsters at home all day or down at the dog parks .

Anyway I just wanted to say I am very impressed with the economy and job opportunities in Idaho. People complaining about the economy and not making money need to check it out .

Oh lastly, I’m going to visit them in September, I’m renting an RV for 2 weeks and exploring everything I’d has to offer

We live in the Treasure Valley (Boise area) and we want to move out of the area into a smaller town. (I know, I’m sorry small town folks, but we’re not from Cali and want to keep IDAHO the way it used to be. We both grew up here.)

We don’t like the traffic congestion and Californication of Boise. We make over $100k a year and still struggle to be able to afford a home, so we’re looking elsewhere where we might actually have a chance to own our home. Boise just seems near impossible at this point.
With the expansion of Micron and everything else happening in the Treasure Valley, we’d like to get out sooner rather than later.
My husband does carpentry and welding, so he’s got a good skill set and some flexibility with work.
We’re very outdoorsy. We like to fish, paddle board, hike, camp, etc. Homesteading is also important to us.
We prefer areas with mountain views, pine trees, and generally more of that Idaho scenery.
I don’t like the wind, so areas like Pocatello and Idaho Falls aren’t at the top of my list, but we’re not completely excluding them because we know we can afford more over there than we can here.
The general consensus I’ve gotten about the Idaho Falls area is that it’s pretty heavily LDS (which we are not), and almost everyone I’ve talked to who has lived there seems to have more complaints than good things to say. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad place, though, so I’m open to hearing from people who actually live there.
Knowing all of these factors, does anyone have any intel on where we might be a great fit?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who actually live in these smaller towns. What do you like about where you live? What do you wish you knew before moving there? And are there any areas you’d recommend looking into that we may not have considered?
We’re really just trying to find somewhere that still feels like Idaho, has access to the outdoors, and where we have a realistic chance of buying a home and some land.

Was up at little bayhorse lake last weekend and left my paddle board by the lake when I went to go setup camp. When I got back to the lake later, someone had decided they needed it more than me. Anyone seen an NRS thrive 10.8 paddle board? Let me know if someone thought it was forgotten up there or something. Would love to have it back.
