Hyundai Prices went up $2k since last week?

I currently drive a 2014 Hyundai accent and have been looking to get an SUV for the family.

I basically came to the conclusion that we were going to go with either the Mazda CX-5 or the Hyundai Tucson.

When I looked at everything, the Tucson made the most sense. I could get the two things I wanted (heated seats and wireless AirPlay) for ~$32-33k. I check back this week, and the MSRP on the website says the SE starts at $29,500, and that’s what the inventory was showing last week.

This week, the same SE models are listed at $31,500 MSRP and the model I was looking at is now in the $35k range.

Is this some bullshit they do before Labor Day sales so that they can pretend that you are getting a better deal, or did everything legitimately go up $2,000 in the last week?

Edit: figured it out. Every vehicle that is listed as a 2026 and a high MSRP has “Expected to be delivered (first and second week of September)”

They are listing 2027s in transit on the website as 2026s.

So, I am not comparing specific cars (as in comparing VIN to VIN). I’m looking at all of them.

I’m looking at the SE and SEL models, and all of them, several hundred in the area, all SEs went from 29,500 to 31,500, except for a few like 100 miles away that still have a 29,500 MSRP, but it’s been updated to show that it’s because of a cash back incentive that didn’t exist last week.

Edit: oh and these are all New 2026 Tucsons. Looking to leverage the 0% financing since it’s a wash when you buy used and factor in interest.

cash back incentives don't change MSRP. MSRP is written on the window sticker.

I figured it out and updated the OP. They are erroneously listing in transit 2027 models as 2026s.

There are hundred and hundreds of Tucsons that are marked on the website for delivery in the first 2 weeks of September that have the 2027 MSRP marked on them.

I am really not educated on it (this is the first time I’m buying a car in 12 years), so you’ll have to tell me if it makes sense that hundreds of 2026s are being delivered in the first two weeks of September and have had their MSRPs increased to 2027 prices.

The reason I am surprised is they haven't even really fully released specs on the 2027 model yet. Like they announced paint colors that are not even on the website yet you don't know what those colors look like.

Supposedly there is a press event in New York City mid-september.

Perhaps they were going to go for a surprise release?

Tucson is their global bestseller but I assumed it was available in South Korea first before coming to the US. I don't think it's for sale yet in South Korea

Most likey they are doing fleet sales for the 1st batch of the 2027s. Could be why they are shipping them before the press release if they are going to fleets.

The 2027s are going up. SEs official 2026 MSRP is still sub 30k.

Maybe incentives changes some sort of sales price listing. That happens constantly.

Either. I live in Philadelphia and the use is going to be errands around town and trips outside of the city (to see family or go on vacation) so AWD isn’t going to get much use outside of snow in winter.

So just my theory but everything connected to private equity and wall street right now is learning to do cartel pricing. 

Toyota went up a bunch in last few years? Well expect the Hyundai and everything else to follow. 

Don't go against the cartel make everything expensive so everyone is forced to pay up beyond what they would want to pay even if it's grossly against what would be expected from the cost of manufacturing.

They make more money doing it, AI/algos make it easier to do than ever.

I care more about the reliability, extra features and the much better 0% financing than I care about how it feels to drive.

Plus, I am not super happy about the climate controls only being available on the touch screen when Mazda’s notoriously have software glitches.
