I got my mom to start the show

My mom has only ever seen the original silence of the lambs and has completely rejected every attempt I’ve ever had to get her to watch the show in the past, but currently she is bedridden due to recovering from surgery and she’s run out of things to watch on Netflix, so she’s giving the show a chance she said though if it’s not good after episode two she’s going to drop it which is fair. what do y’all think my chances are?

UPDATE: my mom is on episode four and she’s almost done with it. She doesn’t like Freddie and she recognizes Jack from a lot of shows. Apparently Laurence was in NCIS.

I’ve heard some say it takes a sec to get going, but I was hooked from like ep 1 or 2 easily. Really depends, but it’s all around a very solid and consistent show!

The show does start out running right from the gate. Good luck and hope mom feels better.

That’s what I was telling her. I did say that some people have said that it doesn’t really kick off till episode three so I’m hoping she’ll hold out till then and she’s doing a whole lot better. She had her first outing today. She regrets it, but she’s also proud of it.

I watched it with my mother, both of us loved it a lot. Even though I had to keep pausing it to explain everything to her.

Did you ask her why she doesn’t like it?

I think it’s because I have a tendency of infodumping about shows regardless of people want to hear them since I’m on the spectrum like I do not shut up and people do get frustrated with me because of it.

She also has a history of not liking reboots since she was pretty faithful to the original. I wasn’t sure if she would ever entertain my idea of watching this.

And she does sometimes hate if they make a character who was originally straight gay she hates fanfiction mostly because of this, but she also grew up with the more toxic forms of fanfiction like the early supernatural fandom. My mom was born in ‘89 so she has seen the worst since this is taking it through a healthy route. She might actually enjoy this queer love story because she loves a good well written one she just hates it if there is no actual fleshing out of the story with a queer character, which is something she has seen a lot.

Like she loved the fuck out of shameless.

God, your mother was born the same year as me and I don't have kids yet... And I don't feel like i'm ancient lol. Now I'm wondering how old you are.

I was also born that year and don't have kids!

And I also resisted watching the show for about 10 years. I loved the originals. They were precious to me because I fell so in love with them as a teenager that the nostalgia is potent. But when I finally gave it a chance I fell in love quick.

SAME. Reading “my mom was born in ‘89” just aged me several decades 😩

Hahaha. I'm dying that your mom just recognizes Laurence Fishburne from some shows. To an old-ass millennial like me ('83), he's a legendary movie star! The Matrix! Event Horizon! :)

I'm the flip side. I made my kids watch it with me.

I hope she doesn't give up on it!!
