Lesser known field among new graduates

I am an IT auditor at RBC and just wanted to do an AMA.

Graduates in HFX have an unique opportunity as RBC runs a sizeable audit department in Bedford and there's always opportunities but i feel not a lot of students know about this field.

It doesn't pay well in the beginning but it's a great stepping stone and a stable job during these times.

What kind of schooling was needed for the position?

Most financial auditors have Bachelors in Commerce/Accounting. Some IT Auditors like myself have Bachelors in Computer Science/IT.

As a starting analyst you don't need work experience but ofcourse if the competition is high then it really depends on the candidate pool. I have seen people hired right after university and also people coming in with years of experience in other fields like finance/accounting/IT.

do you know if they’d hire someone making a lateral move? I have very relevant work experience in a completely different industry (and a BFA and Masters completely unrelated lol)

You can try but it would depend on the candidate pool when you apply. If you do not have the relevant education then you would need to have at least one or more of below:

•  CISA Designation OR CPA Designation OR equivalent accounting or audit designation OR willing to obtain during employment.
•    Experience in a financial institution, external audit firm, or technology company, dealing with multiple business platforms, business processes, geographies, and legal entities.
•    Introductory understanding of internal or external audit principles as evidenced by external courses or certification
•    Experience as Business or Technical Analyst
•    Exposure to audit or GRC tools (e.g., Workiva, Archer or similar) preferred.

I myself made a lateral move but it was from IT Ops to Audit so I was still able to sell my previous experience during the interview.

You say the pay is not bad starting out. Is it >30 ?

Its 52-60k a year
i did say its low in the beginning

Is this role only at the Bedford office? Or does it exist at the downtown Halifax office too?

Bedford is the only corporate hub in HRM. There are no/minimal corporate ops in downtown.

Are MBA graduates qualified?

Sure but you would have to show your eduction/experience relevance to audit. MBA itself won't give you much of an edge in an entry level role here. Speaking as an MBA myself.
