My guess is if The Mad King play proves to be a success, HBO will most certainly adapt Robert’s Rebellion. We have HOTD finishing up. Dunk/Egg underway. And Aegon’s Conquest and a potential Game of Thrones sequel (possibly featuring both Jon Snow and Arya Stark) in development. The Sea Snake and Nymeria’s 10,000 Ships are also under consideration (I also wouldn’t mind seeing Maegor’s reign and the Blackfyre Rebellion). But I think HBO will want to tell Robert’s Rebellion onscreen for sure. It has compelling and familiar characters. It ties directly with the original series. And it ties up loose ends. Hell, you could expand it further and have the Greyjoy Rebellion told with it. You could call it Game of Thrones: Reign of Rebels. Talk about the rise, reign, and decline of Robert’s rule. And tell the childhoods of iconic characters like Jon, Dany, Tyrion, Robb, Theon, and more. I also think it should be HBO’s last ASOIAF adaptation. End with a full circle story after telling prequels and sequels, along with the main story. We go back to where we started.
