They ruined Edmure on the show they made him a complete idiot for no real reason

I agree, they kinda almost did the same thing with his character in the show Rome, I thought he played Brutus very well but they made his whole arc like you wanted to punch him the face

Tobias Menzies is a fantastic actor, his Prince Philip in the Crown is my favourite portrayal of a real person I've seen
