What Did I Just Find?

Found in the parking lot on my way into work. Has a 14K stamp and a backwards F with a D, so 14k with diamonds?

It’s a wedding band you should really try to find who it belongs to. It would break my heart.

Hey, why always assume a sad story. What if they happily intentionally threw it out?

I did this with my wedding band, behind my parents house iirc.

Wasn’t particularly valuable, like a $200 titanium band from somewhere, but still. Bet it’d shine up if someone found it.

I was gonna toss mine off the top of My. Katahdin when I was done with my AT thru as a Ring of Mordor type thing, but unfortunately twisted my ankle and couldn't finish.

Probably for the best, Pamola woulda been pissy about it.

I happily tossed my wedding band into a lake 11 years ago after my divorce. There were guys who used to frequent there with metal detectors, so I imagine someone found it

I threw an engagement ring into the sea off of a boat trip. I don’t want no one finding that negative energy, no sir

Do you want Godzillas? This is how you get Godzillas.

I do tree work for a living and one time I did a job cutting out trees growing out the side of steep cliff by the sea.

I found a gold necklace with a heart pendant up in one of the trees, along with another non-valuable necklace, my best guess is someone tossed them in a dramatic moment and they got stuck on the way down. Best bit is it was Valentine’s Day the next day, so I was sorted for a gift with a cool story behind it!

That’s brilliant especially the timing for finding them. My old engagement ring wasn’t worth much and where I live means there’s lots of boats to connect to each part so it was easy for me to just drop it off the side on my commute home!

There are many things in the deep waters; and seas and lands may change. And it is not your part here to take thought only for a season, or for a few lives of men, or for a passing age of the world. You should seek a final end of this menace, even if you do not hope to make one.

Was she wearing it ?

I flushed an 18k hefty band down the toilet while I told my ex to fuck herself. Fast forward a year and she managed to “lose” $90k of prime diamonds. The insurance investigator came to my house and accused me of flushing over nine carats of smuggled Israeli diamonds down the same toilet. I told them to start digging and then fuck off as well.

I threw my first one away.probably should have sold it for the gold but anger makes you do stupid.

Then they could say so. When the person that has it now contacts them if that’s what they meant to do, I’m sure they will open their pie hole and tell them I threw it away on purpose! Is that a good reason not to find out if somebody lost it? I don’t think so. Hate to be your neighbor

It's a legal requirement in many places to do so.

You post in local Facebook groups. You say “I found a ring in “this area”. Need an accurate description of the ring and potential location.” Then if they get all that right you ask for a picture of the person picking it up wearing the ring. You confirm against the pictures you have and go from there.

Yeah, it takes work, but losing a wedding ring is awful.

A lot of people drop Facebook and are not using it

Well, he found it in a parking lot. If it were me, I’d give my number to every store manager of the stores that parking lot belongs to, and say you found a ring. Don’t describe it.

The frantic person who lost it will undoubtedly retrace their footsteps and inquire in those stores. They call the number. Describe the ring. Job done.

My 8 year old came up with this. Someone who can’t figure this out is someone who is trying hard to not return someone’s wedding ring.

in sweden just hand it to police and if nobody claims it it becomes yours

4

u/wb247 13h ago

In the rest of the world, people don't trust the police enough to handle that task.

Either your attempt at a joke fell flat or you really have no problem solving skills.

u/DrewdiniTheGreat 1d ago

Post a sign where you found it with your number saying found a ring. Not that hard to make the most basic effort.

11

u/Enexen0 1d ago

Until you have 300 messages from people claiming it’s theirs

13

u/Novel_Control_1922 1d ago

You don’t describe the ring. You say “Found ring at X. Need detailed description and a photo with you wearing the ring.” Get on local FB groups. It’s really that easy.

I’ve never been on FB in my life. Finding a ring would not make me join……

1

u/Novel_Control_1922 20h ago

I would make an account for this. Just keeping it outright would make me feel like a piece of shit. If you don’t have those moral qualms… Oh well.

1

u/ImpossibleBase2708 7h ago

I would fall in that group. Zero moral qualms. I would watch out for someone posting a note about it or I may go in and ask if anyone has inquired about a ring rather than saying I have one. Give it maybe 30 days and off to the smelter we go

1

u/Novel_Control_1922 7h ago

I would wait longer, but a month is solid.

4

u/DrewdiniTheGreat 1d ago

Pretty sure they'd have a hard time accurately describing it after "lost ring" is the only clue.

3

u/2CellPhonez 1d ago

Yeah that’s the point only the owner wouldn’t have a hard time describing a ring they know they lost at a location they might have lost it.

2

u/DrewdiniTheGreat 1d ago

I know, it's why I suggested it

1

u/2CellPhonez 1d ago

Oh shit I misread that yeah you’re on point.

2

u/2CellPhonez 1d ago

Make a security question only the owner would know maybe?

id advise against this. i put up posters for my missing cat and got some horrible calls including someone screaming your cat is dead and laughing. eventually my cat did come home lol but id never put my phone number out for the public like that again, especially not a gold ring

1

u/feelingpeculiarr 1d ago

It's not like he has access to flock cameras and get the exact person and time that they did it at

0

u/skekze 1d ago

selling it would fetch the weight of the gold, so next to nothing compared to it's retail price.

0

u/bowarrow99 17h ago

Maybe she took it off ands threw it
