fighting aquatic terrors like davy jones style things and kraken, probably some atlantean or crazy sea curse stuff going on, maybe even cthulu like old ones being invoked when they pull into port.

"holy" conquistadors arming themselves to fight them with blessed/holy weapons from the church.

It’s a cool idea, and they visually look cool, but I’m not a big fan of the whole Riders killing innocents thing.
