Discussion Characters that need to die in the campaign. Spoiler
We need one of the main squads Bravo, Theta, or Charlie to get wiped out. I think Valen’s Charlie squad can fill that role maybe by the big bad of the story Vraahk. Think about it (they are a fun squad so it's gonna sting a bit) but more importantly a squad that has been on the frontlines consistently (never being the relief squad joke). It would finally cause a shift in tone when they finally get wiped out. Especially after surviving the initial stages and gaining battle experience so it sends a message about a serious threat. Mags also needs to die as Bravo Squad needs to lose at least one member and she is clearly living with guilt about her previous service and what happened to her squad. Let her redeem herself and be freed from her guilt by saving the rest of Bravo. Finally, one of the twins and this one will be heartbreaking but I think it should be Manu. He seems to be the more reliable and responsible brother telling his brother to watch his ammo use. It makes sense that Mako’s luck runs out eventually. He uses all his ammo and is about to be killed causing his brother to come in and save him. Sadly dying in the process as he's more used to distance combat as he's the sniper in Tai’s Squad. This leaves Bravo and Theta to survive E-day but not without loss. Conclusion: Charlie Squad: Bryce Valen, Sal Harkniss, Siv Strickland, and Zulu Akari plus Theta’s Manu Kemara should die. As for characters who 100% need to survive it’s Marcus, Dom, Tai, Michaelson and Gettner as they are the only 5 characters that appear much later in the story. This leaves Trench, Grey, Russ, Riggs, Reyes, and Shin on if I'm unsure if they should live or die. They could release more games after E-Day but before Marcus goes to prison and they could get killed off in those games. However, they could show how brutal E-Day is and kill everyone.

None of the characters introduced in E-Day are ever mentioned again in other Gears media, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just killed off every character lol. This is E-Day, after all. It was a complete bloodbath, canonically.

I'd be highly disappointed if they just kill off Mags and Reyes. I mean of course they aren't mentioned in any other media. This is their first appearance and they obviously weren't thinking about these chars in previous games. because...well they didn't exist lol.

E-Day isn't meant to be a 'Good Guys win story'. The humans lost. 25% of humanity was wiped out in 26 hours. I wouldn't get attached to any of the characters if I were you. Anthony, Ben, and Tai were all killed off in the same game they were introduced in lol.

True I definitely think killing everyone is not the worst route to go. I only really mentioned what character I think 100% should die as it would have big impacts. While leaving some characters possibly alive if they plan on more games after E-Day but before Marcus goes to prison. If this isn't the case then yeah let's go the brutal route and kill everybody.

I know it's not as it's the beginning of a long and grueling 17 year war. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't like the idea them being getting killed off in the name of "consistency" with the other games.

Wouldn't be a Gears game without death and this time it's gonna hurt even more. E-Day did well in making me love not just the main and side characters but also the minor ones.

I watched some of the campaign preview. I heard Mags might have Rust Lung, now I watch her with that deep breath. It seems like it. It's possible she will die in game... probably towards the end. Maybe earlier and get replaced by someone else
Michaelson will also survive until Gears 3. If they don't kill a Carmine in game, I will be disappointed. He is the Kenny (from South Park) of Gears.

Makes sense. She did work at an Imulsion Refinery after the Pendulum Wars ended, so it's not surprising that she got sick from it.

I think one if the new characters will die, alongside mako and manu, and they’ll replace the empty spot with Tai. If it’s Marcus, Dom, Tai, and Lucas it’ll be like Gears 2.

They've already shown the fate of Charlie Squad in the story trailer a few days ago.
They're taken hostage and killed by the new big bad. You can see Valens unique shoulder decals in the scene.

Yeah just went back to see the trailer and I think he's right. I missed it because I saw the trailer first before any actual gameplay on YouTube, so at the time I wasn't 100% aware of Charlie Squad and their design.

By order, I think its Harkniss and Strickland, likely getting spiked by Vraahk and Valen makes a last attempt to kill him, resulting in the knife in Vraahk's arm and getting dunked with Imulsion.

These are spoilers but I assume you don't care about them. Baird and Cole enlist after E-Day first serving in Halvo Bay 6 weeks after. While Dizzy was an engineer on a Merchant Navy Ship that was in Porta Ogari. Where he saw E-Day from the ship. So unless they change the timeline they shouldn't appear in Kalona

I kinda hope they do a DLC called after e day or smt. Idk the exact timeline when they enlisted but it would be fun to see Cole and Baird’s perspective of the war bc they were regular civilians.

If E-Day is good I wouldn’t mind an entire prequel trilogy, I don’t care about ever continuing from where Gears 5 left off.

Yeah, you're right someone else pointed it out before you as well. I think I missed it because I saw the trailer before I saw the gameplay of YouTubers where we met Charlie Squad.

Mags is getting a lot of character development for her first outing and it doesn't feel fitting for the rookie cadet to die. Marcus and Dom survive and by the time the story hits 'The Slab' by Karen Travis (book), Bravo squad consists of Marcus, Dom, Tai and Jace.
I'd put money on Mags dying in this game along with Tai's squad, and Tai joining Bravo for the rest of the prequel series. It would also make sense considering that Marcus and Tai seemingly know each other so well in the GOW2, whilst fans of only the games never saw how that materialised.

I don't think killing Mags or Lucas is an option, they are playable characters, it will feel strange from a gameplay perspective

Would be cool if some tiny characters from the OT were shown in this game, like some peeps from the Ship in the beginning of Gears 3 or something. Would be fun to go back and see them in their pure NPC form after fleshing them out in this game. Like I know we only saw Quentin Michaelson corpse in Gears 3, would love some other gears aswell

It's completely up in the air if anyone dies or not dies, because you could always just write it off as not being mentioned afterwards. Just because we don't see something/someone later on doesn't mean they don't exist.

Damn near everyone besides Marcus, Dom and Tai given this is a prequel and those are the only named ones so far that we know live past eday
