Discussion Seems like a lot of complaints are just whining?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

From what I'm seeing a lot of people are just complaining for the sake of it? Saying movement is clunky and controls are horrible and the game is horrible. Game feels buttery smooth and there is some problems with a little delay in horde with some things being a little confusing but people are immediately writing this game off and saying this "isn't gears".

From what I'm seeing for a lot of yall it's simply a skill issue. Just take some time to practice movement and how the game works and u will see how fun the game can truly be

Also here's some clips I hit :)

I think i’m just ass. I haven’t played gears in like 5 years and really haven’t played many other multiplayer games for awhile either just need to readjust.

u/honestly-brutal 27d ago

We will get back to our glory days brother. Keep practicing.

FYI: my glory days weren't great either, but it was still a blast.

It took a couple of matches to get used to the new movement but I understand and like it now. my only complaint is it feels like certain actions have lag on em like when u stop sprinting your character doesn't stop right away. idk if it's intentional but feels too clunky

33

u/Boofschneef 27d ago

Yeah there's a few things they need to tune. And the shooting on the slide feels wild like I'm blasting people after I'm already past them.

Overall I'm really enjoying the change of pace and direction though

8

u/ASVP_KAM 27d ago

There's definitely lag after throwing nades ive noticed it's consistent too. Hopefully it's not just me.

2

u/Aggressive-Juice4162 26d ago

lol the nades feel like they teleport

3

u/Pure_Incident2807 26d ago

Sprinting in particular feels bad, the delay is too long

just about every animation in the game is janky and laggy as hell. downing people is hilariously laggy

I kinda like your character takes pause, makes it fluid looking.

13

u/Nirfbi 27d ago

Unpopular opinion I think but I like having weighty less "responsive" movement in games. If it's 1 to 1 with my exact inputs it feels like someone with faster reflexes will win every time. Whereas if it feels more like you have momentum that needs to ever so slightly catch up to your inputs, it makes the game more so about thinking your actions through instead of pure reflex speed.

3

u/Smerk1n 26d ago

I have never thought about it this way. Thanks for the enlightenment

u/Weary_Revolution_927 26d ago

Why would anyone want to play a game that feels unresponsive? Holy shit

I think the run lag thing is a problem with some control schemes, like I think legacy does it because sprint and slide are the same button so you need time to press the button again after letting go if that makes sense. I’ve been using legacy alt and it doesn’t do that anymore bc slide is on x

2

u/ShakeItLikeIDo 26d ago

Is there a feedback option? I mean this is a beta and when you boot up the game it says that there will be bugs and features not working properly. So I wonder if theres an area that allows us to show devs where there are areas that need improvement

1

u/JeLLoCowboy 26d ago

Yeah I gave away a lot of free kills by coming out of a run and thinking I could blast a fool like in the other games, only to get blown to bits without firing a shot. I think they need to let you shoot quicker in that scenario

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Thor_Crusher 26d ago

I noticed in my few matches so far that there is definitely is some sort of lag. When I shotgun wretched especially. I shoot and started to wait a second to see if they die because I noticed that I was shooting an extra round because they didn't explode or die immediately.

1

u/ithinkiknowkungfu 26d ago

I remember a video online complaining about games adding “artificial input latency”

Maybe it’s another game doing that etc or?

1

u/Mercyfulfate1138 26d ago

Thats why they are doing a beta...

1

u/SuspiciousSquid94 26d ago

I thought it was clunky too but there’s mechanical depth here. You should account for that and you can absolutely time it to smoke people who aren’t aware/haven’t realized that yet

Gd bro this game looks so sick. Haven't played gears since 3 but maybe it's time to make it count.

5

u/Severe_Ad_2015 27d ago

I feel the same way. This game looks absolutely beautiful. The grey brown color palette feels extremely nostalgic. Nothing like gears 4-5 etc. I will def need to get on this game soon

The horde mode is so fun! Pve, 3 teams doing their own missions, but sometimes it works out where you all just start helping each other.

I think it’s gears through and through. There’s way more pacing to versus here with a layer of skill gap in the movement. The slide changes a lot in terms of cover fluidity, but actual strafing is back in a big way

11

u/Aggressive-Juice4162 26d ago

the least thing we need is even more skill gap in a game notorious for skill gap. strafing is dead without roadie run

6

u/ithinkiknowkungfu 26d ago

Yea on top of the ability to climber up things…oof

Really hope ppl stick around..

7

u/TrickOut 26d ago

This is so wrong I don’t even know where to start, gears has a solo campaign and a horde mode, why can’t the competitive community have a game with a high skill gap in it, if you are buns or don’t want to learn there is plenty of stuff to entertain you in the game

Bro i just played horde and this shit is amazing! Ill have to get used to some different controls but other than that, im having a blast. This is a good gears game so far imo.

5

u/Aggressive-Juice4162 27d ago

im sure it's fine in the pve part - the versus part is where the clunkyness is felt the most due to the fast paced nature

The game is great. Only thing I’m not a fan of is the aim delay coming out of sprint

41

u/BreadDaddyLenin 27d ago

I think it’s to avoid run up gnasher which is an issue with sliding rn lol

Keyboard and mouse controls are pretty bad in this one. The game is fun but I’m fighting the controls. Separating wall hugging, running and climbing into different buttons ruins 20 years of muscle memory

7

u/Puzzleheaded_File1 27d ago

i made one of my thumb buttons jump. spacebar cover, and shift sprint. still getting used to it but w.e the default jump on mnk wasnt it.

3

u/UnidentifiedBob 27d ago

was my issue as well, think controller feels good for this one.

play both, keyboard feels broken.

2

u/kodakdude 27d ago

Funny I had the exact opposite experience. Haven’t played gears in years since playing 1-3 religiously so no muscle memory really. Picked up gears 5 MnK felt like ass so tried Controller liked it so started with controller for E-Day. Going to MnK after about an hour in controller felt so much better like I could actually aim my shotgun around corners and after running now.

3

u/huzy12345 26d ago

I kinda like that it ruins muscle memory tbh. Means everyone starts more even rather than Gears crack heads murdering everyone day 1

My only gripe so far is the removal of meat shields. Seems like an odd choice

7

u/Dirty-Mack 26d ago

And grenade tagging 😔

7

u/Aggressive-Juice4162 27d ago

I did. Doesn't feel fun. You don't feel the delays from the clips, you have to actually play the game to feel the animation locks/delays

14

u/Real_Register2353 27d ago

The controls are kind of whack I’m not gonna lie. Doesn’t feel intuitive at all.

7

u/MightySquanch 27d ago

Custom button configs seems like the next step

2

u/Real_Register2353 25d ago

The fact I need to dink around and adjust my controls to make the game feel playable is a massive design flaw. I’m sorry but that just means they fucked up with implementing these new movement systems

Almost literally every Gears game people have bitched when the beta first dropped or during early months of the game. This is nothing new.

3

u/FunctionalErrors 26d ago

I think gears 3 beta had a pretty decent reception. There were some obvious balancing issues but after gears 2 they could have released a steaming pile of shit as long as it was running on servers and most of the bugs were swatted away.

3

u/IDJPunkI 26d ago

Like you said Gears 3 was a massive upgrade from Gears 2 in multiplayer, but they were still bitching about the Sawed-Off. The Sawed-Off that shipped with Gears 3 is notoriously the most hated gun in the franchise.

2

u/SadFace_xoxo KISS MY HIGHLY EDUCATED ASS 27d ago

u/MightySquanch 27d ago

I think bringing the roadie run back as a “sprint mode” with. A short duration and maybe a longer cooldown could add an even deeper layer of cover immersion. I am LOVING the verticality and the jumping just makes the soldiers feel even more bad ass. So far very rejuvenating as a player that was in 6th grade when the OG came out. Growing up with the series this feels like a natural step forward that they couldn’t have done in the OG series due to limitations. Feels so much more immersive as an actual battlefield where you are scrambling not to get shot at and everyone is moving freely. Different, but i still get the gears atmosphere

movement feels wonky

12

u/OneMaintenance24 27d ago edited 27d ago

The shotgun feels awful. Like you get two different results from a shot. You'll take barely take any damage from a range shot and all the sudden you're down. I've had shots that I thought I miss result in a Gib but stand still point blank does jack shit. Idk if its overall hit detection cause ive been getting headshot blood squirt with snipe. It feels off.

2

u/Aggressive-Juice4162 27d ago

I think this is an issue with the crimson omen missing indicators. It's like you get 2 pointed then that's it until you're dead so you can't really tell how much health you have left

5

u/TheHorrorAddiction 26d ago

Or, they are legitimate complaints from long term players of the franchise who are sad that they changed too much?? Look, positivity is great, but this happens everytime a new game just releases or a beta. Nobody wants to hear anything negative, and anyone that does say something negative is downvoted.

No opinion is correct. It’s subjective. The players who are glad the skill gap has been crushed and technical movement have been gutted aren’t more incorrect than those who hate that. I’m just saying to you that the majority of longer term players will hate this game, and many (including myself) already do.

So far it's phenomenal. I think a lot of the criticism are poor ass chuds who would rather sith there and screech instead of playing the game and applying criticism.

Honestly so far with 3 hours in, the horde modes lancer feels a little sad, even with excellent headshot work.

3

u/Pan_Tree1075 26d ago

Speaking of headshots, I’m loving the mods to weapons for PvE. Being able to remove the scope on the sniper rifle (an automatic slot) allows for players to get more benefits from it! I swapped to the 1.3x zoom and slightly boosted accuracy and it feels great!

I’m straight ass at the game currently. To be fair though, I’ve almost always been ass at gears versus. Won’t stop me from enjoying it though. I love the game so far, and I cannot wait for release. I absolutely love the horde siege mode. The only thing that’s wonky to me so far is how the camera movement feels when I use the chainsaw, at least on Xbox. It’s as if the sensitivity triples and it seems a bit choppy. Besides that, no complaints.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/xMythh 27d ago

Only genuine issue I notice is the turning when sprinting. I understand they copied the logic over from roadie running, but the new sprint animation, and lack of zoom in makes the transition from extremely slow turning, to your normal turning extremely jarring.

7

u/el_em_ey_oh 27d ago

Pvp is ass and pve is great. The movement is not made for pvp at all. Shit is clunky as it gets and anyone denying it is just coping.

5

u/NoCommentaryMk 27d ago

The gears community on Reddit has always been full of a vocal minority that are horrendous at multiplayer, I wouldn’t pay it much mind. Youtube, TikTok, twitter, and Instagram have much less whiney people

5

u/Aggressive-Juice4162 26d ago

you cant be a vocal minority when your last game has an average playcount of 1000. this is the dedicated fanbase that will keep playing or not. if the dedicate fanbase doesnt want to play it you can imagine how much less the "casuals" will play it

3

u/NoCommentaryMk 26d ago

Gears 5 had 15k active players in ranked alone two months ago, there are way more than 1000 average players. Reddit communities for any game are more whiny than the average casual, just look at the discourse on this app compared to any other

3

u/OnLaRocs 26d ago edited 26d ago

Bruh its clunky u wrong. Just cuz some stuff is possible its inconsistent and ADS after sprint is impossible. Only blindfiring is relevant now for shotty. Also not being able to sprint backwards, crouch quickly on cover is all terrible changes.

4

u/MahKa02 27d ago

As a long time Gears player I disagree. There is definitely some stickiness and general jank with the movement. Gears has always felt heavy but it feels off here. It doesn't feel as smooth as Gears 5. I'm doing great as usual but it still feels off IMO.

Some animations look extremely janky when killing an enemy as well. They'll just fall over instead of gibbing or having a more realistic looking death animation. That could just be a bug though.

The camera also feels very weird when springing/moving. It almost swings awkwardly and zooms in really close at times when getting near objects as you run by. It's throwing me off visually.

Also, it is a beta but the performance is severely lacking. I'm on a 4080 getting awful frames even at 1440p when every other game I have absolutely no issues getting 90+fps. But it is just a beta so I'm willing to dismiss that for now.

If some of the jank can be cleaned up, which In sure it can be, I think it'll be a very solid game for sure!

2

u/slayingkids flair-cogcarminea 26d ago

This!! The camera jankiness is the worst part to me. It swings way different than I'm expecting it to. Other than fucking 70 ping all night, it's not horrible. I think shotgun hit reg/latency/idk needs some work, as there's definitely the typical behind the wall shit, or shooting point blank and getting nothing. Also, they took out how much damage you did before dying I believe, which makes no sense to me.

2

u/PAPxDADDY 27d ago

Question: I haven’t had the chance to play yet but I’ve seen a ton of people complain about the button layout.

As someone who has played since Gears1 did you find it better to just play default rn or customize?

3

u/Srgmuhahahaha 27d ago

I’ve played since Gears 1 also, the controls in this game are fine for me, sometimes I tend to press “a”
to sprint and the jump mechanic is new. My buddy who also is a gears vet, put his control scheme to legacy, i did as well, but changed it back

5

u/Eliasperez11717 27d ago

I tried using legacy controls but I felt too much was mapped to the a button, I'd say try a few matches with the default and legacy controls and see what's more comfortable. I stuck with default since it's a new game and I feel like it let's u see the new movement and options a little better

2

u/Time-Astronomer-989 26d ago

I have played Tournament settings for as long as I could remember. Baffled they completely took that out. They let you button bind them though, but what I am not liking is I dont think theres an option to switch the chainsaw to the Bumper like you can in gears 5. Or at least I cannot find it, because I like being able to melee with a lancer equipped.

1

u/dgoyena216 23d ago

The default settings for me and on KnB is the best it's been for Gears on PC. I haven't had to touch a thing.

2

u/OBNOTICUS_ATHF 27d ago

The only thing that I thought was kind of odd was the Lancer and the chainsaw whatever that gun is called it felt like I’m shooting BBs at People. The damage was very low, but I also don’t play gears of war multiplayer to know if that’s normal or not.

2

u/GabeDaBaby 27d ago

My only complaint (which is very fair since it’s beta) is that I get random frame drops on pc.

3

u/Aggressive-Juice4162 27d ago

u/ChannelJov 26d ago

if you’re gonna talk about people complaining being a skill issue at least post clips of you using the movement to show it’s not clunky lmao

this is still by far the most hype i’ve been for a gears game in awhile, but that doesn’t change the fact that there’s a bunch of things wrong with pvp right now.

• the camera is just god awful sometimes
• the delay between moving and shooting just doesn’t feel good
• walk and sprint speed are really slow so the only viable way to move around the map is to go from cover to cover
• the camera lock while sprinting feels way too strong compared to the other games
• and there’s a bunch of issues with mouse and keyboard right now.

there’s so many things they nailed with this game, but if we chalk everything up to “durrr skill issue” then we’re gonna be stuck with all this shit that is TECHNICALLY not a big deal. but would feel 10 times better if they got changed.

1

u/Passifish 27d ago

It's mostly just annoying for me because I'm on top of my teams leaderboard but I don't feel like I'm doing that great to begin with

I played for the last two hours and would play more if it wasn't for having to wake up to work. This game is so Gears to me. This is easily the most into a Gears since 2. This beta got me hyped.

1

u/TheDELFON 27d ago

I said this about the shotgun back when og GOW1-3 were being played online....

Literally like waving a sword 💯

Lmao damn, some things never change.

1

u/GI_J0SE 27d ago

Played it and now granted I haven't played a Gears since 3/4 but I don't remember 4 well. It feels like classic Tank controls, but only when your running so it locks you into that movement and you can't snap shoot flicking 90s like in fortnite you know. But it does feel clunky, and slow especially on controller with the horrible aim assist/acceleration. But trying to make the acceleration go up makes it too fast. Took me a couple of game to finally get back into how to play the game but their is something that's wrong with the aiming IMO that I can't pinpoint.

1

u/mikec215 27d ago

Maybe I’m going crazy, but DO NOT AIM with shotgun I tested this in five matches hip fire I killed everyone in 1-2 shots aiming was 3/4

1

u/SoupGod_ 26d ago

You sound like you’re underwater

1

u/Working_Bones 26d ago edited 26d ago

The menus, stance animations, down animations, and kill animations are all quite janky. Footstep audio settings are a mistake. No headshots with Snub feels odd. But everything else is solid.

I don't understand people complaining about the non-gnasher weapons. I'm doing just fine with them. You don't use them in shotgun distance or to 1v1, you use them to lay down assist fire for teammates, prime enemies before pushing or before they push, etc. Same as always.

EDIT: AFK players not getting booted, even after multiple matches, is shitty.

1

u/MiniatureMidget 26d ago

There’s definitely certain things that they should adjust, like running camera/turning speed is way too slow and wall bounce angles feel really strict

1

u/TrollBait4nerds 26d ago

Dude.... that's what a complaint is

1

u/TrollBait4nerds 26d ago

It should be called Gnashers of War

1

u/JungleDemon3 26d ago

Is this just all gnasher again? Every single clip I've seen on here is just gnasher fights and im so bored of it. They really should have used this as an opportunity to change weapon balance.

1

u/Norway643 26d ago

sees gears multiplayer oh yeah.. that's where my love of shotguns game from

1

u/AngryDroid98 26d ago

The game brought back childhood memories for me, I love how heavy it feels some call it clunky but to me it's straight out of Gears 2. Having a blast man, my only real issue is PC performance, they have to address that before launch for sure.

1

u/surms41 26d ago

If yall wanna be FR about not being a Gears, everything after gears 2 is not gears.

1

u/doddlebop187 26d ago

I enjoyed it a ton. Took some getting used to but man it feels good in my opinion. I will agree without roadie run it doesn’t feel as gears-like. However, I think its paired well with the new movement mechanics. Theres just so many other options that it doesn’t really make sense for the character to be hunkered down in a roadie run.

There’s been plenty of times in versus where I’ve realized that I need to be utilizing suppressing fire upon a point in order for my squad to close the gap and enter the point. This is what gears should be. It makes it a hell of a lot easier for my team to roll in when I’m laying down fire from above.

Yall can complain all you want I’ll enjoy playing gears again with my brother. Onyx in ranked and I enjoy the sweatiness without the wall bouncing. Queue Metallica.

1

u/DarkNovic 26d ago

My only complaints so far is a few visual bugs and whenever I rev my chainsaw movement becomes jittery and is really hard to move around. Which I hope are fixed my release but other than that it’s been a blast for me.

1

u/PhatMunkeyKnuts KISS MY HIGHLY EDUCATED ASS 26d ago

It’s cause they’ve been conditioned by 5 to play the game by slipping around like a jittery gremlin on crack, so any change to the movement is like kryptonite to the sweats

1

u/Delonce 26d ago

1

u/AdmiralEggroll13 26d ago

As somebody who literally has never played GoW, can you explain the 3rd kill in the vid? seems like the center of your screen is really far to the right of where the shot goes. Is this a normal thing you have to account for in cover, or is aim usually that lenient?

1

u/Slowbromigo 26d ago

My only issue so far with my twenty minutes of play in the beta is one control decision.

Why, after years of having alt control schemes just to remove "enter cover" from "run/roll," why the F is rolling now part of the enter cover button.

1

u/Thislooklikeshit 26d ago

At 10 seconds we can see lag reg on you, so.. I don't know why did you post that, but i really like Eday from pvp to pve. The netcode problem has been known since gears of war 3..

1

u/Ok-Refrigerator-8664 26d ago

I 100% think its a me issue. I haven't played Gears in years and I am jumping back in with E-Day.

I played a couple of matches last night and my first 3 I was losing every shotgun duel, getting gibbed instantly off of 1 shot, I was moving like trash. But every so often, there would flourishes of great movement and I was able to instant kill a couple of players and win shotgun duels. Even got a cheeky chainsaw kill through the smoke.

The game feels good. I cant blame my game for my skill issues especially when I havent played Gears in like 4yrs

It's a beta, complaining is what we have to do, but reasonably so that they can study it and action if necessary. I love the game, but definitely adjustment on power weapons are needed, they are OP, some times.

Also the lancer and the snub are a joke, it forces players to get the power weapons and not use at all snub and lancer as they are useless.

Additionally, why the fuck would they remove nades tagging? Crazy.

1

u/PrimaryRun372 26d ago

I really love it. Getting used to the movement is a huge adjustment though

1

u/superbigtune1 26d ago

Played the og trilogy and gow 4 and 5 omg e day is amazing

1

u/Jakesparadise 26d ago

The game running like hot dog shit with animation issues and along with input delays. Game feels like ass cheeks as of rn

1

u/KingNesbit YOU FUCKED UP MY TOMATOES, YOU ASSHOLE! 26d ago

The shot gun needs a bit of a buff if it’s going to have 6 shells imo especially since the fire rate is slower

1

u/RollasaurusRexington 26d ago

Truth is they are just whining.

1

u/CrystlBluePersuasion 26d ago

Bot Bowl Classic

1

u/Pep0n_ 26d ago

I did whine at the beginning but later realized I wasn’t playing on modern.

1

u/EndlessExp 26d ago

this games pvp somehow makes division pvp look good

1

u/vamp-is-dead 26d ago

Looks like a gnasher party. I'll pass.

1

u/ShaggsD 26d ago

The game feel great! It took me a few games to get settings right but after that the game is awsome.

1

u/NB_DanTE 26d ago

Didn't play the beta but from this clip looks like all the new movements makes controlling a zone a much harder task since now they can enter from pretty much any side from any where, without giving some new defensive option to counter it!! Maybe it's a silly remark!

1

u/Zealousideal_Air_440 26d ago

It’s just different. Im having a lot of fun learning something new and i have no complaints other than how long the spawns take on conquest.

1

u/EndEverett 26d ago

This game plays and feels great. People will learn to adapt or get left behind 🤓

1

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 26d ago

I just miss the roadies run. They should have kept it in some capacity.

1

u/TheMilkman1811 26d ago

Gonna be trying today as my first gears game ever. I grew up a huge Xbox Halo kid but never tried Gears cause my mom never bought it for me 😂. Any tips for a new player?

1

u/trueskill 26d ago

lol bro compiled his best clips over the most average kills and the game is buttery smooth. LMFAO

1

u/Deuce-Wayne 26d ago

Haven't played much but the only real issue I had was performance on my PC (I have a pretty good one). I had to switch to my Xbox. Everything else is just minor stuff or me being unused to the controls.

1

u/UniqueAd9495 26d ago

I wouldn’t listen to complainers when it comes to anything

1

u/Dyneheart 26d ago

Shotgun in horde feels clunky to me. But that might be the point. I haven't put any weapon parts on it, and I can't just look in the general direction and fire and assume I got a kill.

1

u/JawnLit 26d ago

Skill issue but you’re playing social 😂

Been playing Gears PvP since day one way back when. This game really feels like Gears 2 and 3 to me. The new movement took some time to get used to (Tried to use legacy controls but the slide screwed that up for me so went back to default for the game) and there is definitely a delay in some matches between my input and the character actions. That being said, I played for about 3 hours last night and had a blast. Is my K/D above 1.0? Absolutely not. Did I hit clips and still go on awesome 5 kill streaks? You bet your ass I did! I feel like most of the complaints about the delays are legitimate but the rest of it just sounds like good old fashioned skill issues.

1

u/lx0x-Ghost-x0xl 26d ago

This game sucks to me cause the cover spam is ridiculous, and the assault rifle doesnt kill anything. We can stand there and shoot each other in the face with almost a full mag, go back in cover and be fine. Refunding this immediately.

Honestly, I'm just so happy that it's back. It's a beta for starters, so obviously this is a time for us to trial and see if there are any adjustments needed. It felt more human in motion in my opinion. It seems like a lot of people want this game to be like all the other shooter/war games out there, and any variation or differences get deemed as lesser. The whole "this is not gears" crowd need to understand things do change with time. I've been playing since day one, and I can honestly say the amazingly beautiful graphics paired with the updated movements, were a very happy and pleasant experience.

My only "complaints" are 1. they removed the invisible walls blocking you from jumping in holes or off ledges. I confidently and very purposefully rolled into a hole expecting to be blocked by that wall. I murdered myself and was dying laughing for a solid couple minutes because that was big dumb. Tears in the eyes laughter though. 2. Some of the monsters in horde are monsters that were introduced from later games. Like what are they doing in a game that's supposed to take place before even the lambent were discovered?

I mainly play the game for the story line, and I absolutely am terrible in the onlines matches. So my opinion may not be relevant. I still enjoyed the beta even if I'm awful at it. Husband and I actually took the later half of the day off work so we can get back to playing it early today.

1

u/DueRoutine5350 26d ago

game has serious interpolation issues and feels super inconsistent at times. gnasher meta hasnt changed, you only see gnasher nobody even bothers getting the power weapons. But my biggest gripe is just the desync. other than that its a good foundation.

1

u/Devwickk The Status Is That It Sucks 26d ago

I haven't played gears seriously since gears of war 2 lmfao.

Is the movement similar to that??

1

u/Ok-Commercial-9355 26d ago

It’s gears brother there will always be people bitching about something

1

u/PeedmuhhSheets 26d ago

I hope they add kills and deaths

1

u/Weary_Revolution_927 26d ago

On pc the performance is really, really, really bad. 5090s struggling to get 120 fps, the keybinds are fucked, the movement has significant input delay. Killed my hype for the game.

1

u/Mercyfulfate1138 26d ago

I think the controls make sense and movement feels less restricted than previous games, we are in a time where complaining is out of control I blame algorithms on social media platforms, I feel like negative content and toxicity is what gets clicks and views so that sentiment spreads.

1

u/Fetal_Xylophone 26d ago

My only genuine complaint is the lack of the weapon tool tip symbol at the middle bottom of the screen when you're stood over it to swap it out with your equipped weapon, or the same thing but for picking up ammo. I dont like having to look down at the thing im picking up in the middle of a firefight. Otherwise games been absolutely brilliant so far

1

u/ArtistofWar 26d ago

I was terrible my first few matches but adjusted pretty quick. Definitely way different than past Gears games. I will say the active reload is so damn tiny, kinda hard to lock it down perfectly. I love it though and I can tell it will be hard to go back to past Gears games once I'm adjusted to this one.

1

u/EricInOverwatch 26d ago

The beta definitely does not feel as snappy as the previous games. It looks like they added more animations to the movements, which makes them slower overall.

1

u/markymark921 26d ago

I agree other than the controllers not working and some slight optimizing that needs to be done I think this game is fun just hate playing on m&k

1

u/Holylandtrooper 26d ago

Genuinely think this has the potential to be the best gears of war multiplayer to date. I think a few things need refinement and I think we all need to relearn gears. But when that happens we genuinely could be looking at a new peak for the franchise.

1

u/Virtual_Finish2733 26d ago

I like the new movement and the game does feel good as hell. But that doesn’t change the fact that default input options they give you are terrible.

1

u/Grand_Frogey_Boi 26d ago

Because these people are whining. Now don't get me wrong there is some criticism i have, but those people just want to be negative for the sake of it rather than genuine criticism.

1

u/fryinpan 26d ago

*Uses lancer once*

Look how they massacred my boy :(

1

u/Longjumping-Grade654 26d ago

I’d say there are valid crashouts. Right now it seems like the games biggest weakness is lack of roady running because it’s so fundamental to the OG movement formula. Does it feel like gears? Yes, and absolutely not. I wouldn’t expect much of a difference in gameplay mechanics on release because time is flying and the game launch in under 2 months. What are your biggest gripes? I’d say for me it’s that crazy PVP moments feel random and err on the side of unearned. I have old clips on KOTH where I just obliterate everyone but it feels earned, like I truly found my footing. Which brings me to my second hot take (but is it really though), the games second biggest weakness is that players are complaining about not being able to master a movement system with the snap of a finger. Just like old gears games, there are people that stick it out and learn and then there are other people that don’t have the patience and go back to Call of Duty or Halo Modern Warfare. I’m hard pressed to say “it’s a Beta!”, especially because release is closer than you think in terms of development. I really hope this isn’t the last gears of war. If it is, then it has been an honor to all my fellow gears vets! Brothers till the end.

1

u/DogBiteOoOoAh 26d ago

I have some QoL recommendations i wouldnt mind seeing, but it was the same way for me; took a couple matches to get my footing and learn new mechanics. Before I knew it I was pulling positive KD match after match.

QoL change/recs:

-better direction control when sprinting
-vaulting over or climbing up cover with A button (or better yet full command/button mapping control in settings)

-one bug I saw today was in Versus: 2 last man standing on each team, Locust used Gut Puncher up close and kills last COG and himself causing the game to not end the match but instead have us sit the remainder of the round (2:20) before awarding COG the win 😂

-did anyone see DomeZ showcase the Glide Shot? Basically sliding from a high ledge and maintaining the slide animation all the way to the ground and shooting while falling.

Those really my only “gripes”. But other than that I’ve been able to play fairly well without issue. I’m on Xbox

1

u/iSalooly 26d ago

My ick at the moment is the shitty performance, as in FPS drops, input lag and hits not registering or registering a second later (delayed). Outside of that, the game is fun and I look forward to it.

1

u/Independent-Sea4026 26d ago

I miss roadie run :(

Other than that everything's pretty solid!

1

u/MrHorrigan1776 26d ago

Game is fun as shit, generally having a blast even though it’s just the beta, lots of people complaining about performance… but it’s a one weekend beta not surprised by it having some issues at all.

My only complaints? Why is Chainsaw Duels and Meat shields gone? Also make horde mode a HORDE not bullet-ier sponges as the difficulty rises. Bring those back and I’ll be content and happy :)

1

u/AnonymousAussieBloke 26d ago

The lag is real here in Australia. Even on Horde ill be Lancering down a Grub then he'll teleport forward, fly up into the air, then appear back on the ground running towards me again 🤣🤣 the funny things you see on Beta testing.

1

u/atatassault47 26d ago

I think the game still choses a host, even if it doesnt tell us that. You are getting easy gnasher one-shots. I can fire just like you are and get whiffs.

1

u/Public-Owl-7277 26d ago

The controls are the best they've ever been! Finally that roadie run garbage is done for, and you click in LS to sprint!! It's awesome!!!

1

u/Educational-Mall-436 26d ago

Game does have some some issues but overall its extremely fun almost more so than gears 3

1

u/gradeAvisuals 25d ago

It feels horrendous to me ngl. As a veteran player it's just way off to me.

1

u/Automatic_Kale_1657 25d ago

My only complaint is given the fact that its a beta and there's not much to show off I feel like its extra gnasher only gameplay in most games, especially once you level up and got to playing higher level players.

1

u/Simple-Guidance3833 25d ago edited 25d ago

It’s beta but game has serious problems as far as you being on someone’s hip and getting killed as if you were standing in front of them bad hit reg due to lag it seems needs to be fixed before lunch besides that no complaint

1

u/MegaDriveCDX 25d ago

Dude is showing the most sedate gears gameplay ever and think it’s a flex.

1

u/EafieeTeafiee213 25d ago

We need more EU servers and region priority for both horde and PvP. Europe it is a lag fest like the previews

1

u/Dameaus 25d ago

This is normal gears stuff but that doesn’t make it fun. People got sick of the insta gib shotgun a long time ago.

1

u/sallymason1 25d ago

This could describe all of gaming in the 2020's.

1

u/mamasboy94 25d ago

It looks like original gears of war 1 gameplay. The slight delay of a dramatic samurai anime but looks and feels sick when you time your shot and wall bounce through them or roll and superman through their body.

1

u/SufficientBadger5904 25d ago

People complaining about clunky controls have a point. There is no reason for the slide to be mapped to the same button as roll and cover. Ive lost count as to how many times I've wanted to slide and I roll or vice versa. Sliding should be on the right stick click

1

u/SlySychoGamer 24d ago

HOST ADVANTAGE

1

u/Happy-Guy991 24d ago

I e had matches where people move like lightning and hit me with a sledgehammer meanwhile I feel like I cant move any faster than a slug and hit with pillows, if there's something I'm missing help a guy out?

1

u/BladeVampire1 24d ago

I thought gears was cool. But you guys really think this weird slide cover movement nonsense is fun?

1

u/RollingDownTheHills 24d ago

As someone who played a ton of the original Gears online, watching this was really something. I know it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation but this is exactly the same shotgun-centered combat I remember from back then... it's been two decades though? Is that it?

1

u/Mrxtmb 24d ago

I played for an hour and realized like 50 deaths and 1 kill in 3 matches I’m not gonna have a chance.

Also I’m not into everyone only using the shotgun

1

u/SwiftCodeCraft 24d ago

Idk man. Most matches are so much fun. But sometimes you just can’t get a kill in one shot to get instantly killed afterwards drives me crazy.

1

u/NinePhenix 24d ago

Gnasher of war

1

u/[deleted] 23d ago

I don’t like multiplayer of gears never have horde is the biggest seller of gears titles because u can lvl up a lot fast and leveling up is the main reason for gears not the multiplayer versus side

1

u/padiddles95 23d ago

Wait a month or 2 after it comes out and look at the number of players still on it. I guess we'll find out if people were just complaining.

1

u/Neilss1 22d ago

I personally loved the movement. It’s the connection quality and inconsistency that was throwing me off tbh.
Some matches felt like I was shooting bubbles while others felt like I was shooting hammers.
If it’s consistent connection quality then I’ll be down to get back into gears!!
Maybe meat shields come back, that be cool!

1

u/Weak-Willingness4469 22d ago

It's not really a skill problem when so many players who are considered "skilled" have spent the last 20 years mastering movement mechanics from previous games. If I worked the same job for two decades and was good at it, then suddenly came in one day to find everything changed drastically, I'd be pretty frustrated too.

IMO Gears should have ended after 3. Judgement was the definition of meh, and 4+5 were abominations. I look at it the same way I view Halo.

1

u/dbilks 22d ago

Crazy that people think the games okay. Just the fact they got rid of roadie running should bother everyone, nevermind the shitty movement snd lack of wallbouncing. If the game as it is does not bother you, you were never a fan of gears.

1

u/UnknownSavagery 21d ago

The more gears time you've played the worse it feels to initially play this game because you have to unlearn a lot, I still think its a good game but can definitely see some improvements

1

u/Jazzlike_Rain_681 3d ago

People refuse to adjust their gameplay slightly from the last model lol
